00:00 - You're sworn out now, Mrs. Carmody.
00:03 Please stand aside.
00:04 - Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:05 And today, we're counting down our picks
00:07 for endings of horror flicks that were baffling,
00:10 underwhelming, or just plain lazy
00:12 to the point that fans took issue.
00:14 Yes, spoilers lay ahead.
00:15 - As everyone knows by now,
00:17 traces of the neurotoxin have been found
00:18 in some plants and trees.
00:20 - Number 10, "Saw 3D."
00:22 - No!
00:23 - Game over.
00:24 - No!
00:26 - While the "Saw" franchise lost steam
00:27 long before its seventh installment,
00:29 fans still wanted a decent conclusion in the final chapter.
00:32 Instead, they got what felt like a tacked-on ending.
00:35 After he kills Jill Tuck, widow of John "Jigsaw" Kramer,
00:39 the unhinged Detective Mark Hoffman
00:41 gets snatched by three people
00:43 wearing the infamous pig masks.
00:44 It's then revealed that Dr. Lawrence Gordon
00:47 not only survived after amputating his foot
00:49 in the first film, he also became a jigsaw apprentice.
00:53 - Hello, Dr. Gordon.
00:54 You are perhaps my greatest asset.
00:58 - Many felt that it was a lazy choice to bring Gordon back
01:01 just to make him another acolyte,
01:03 one who apparently worked on seemingly every trap
01:06 after Kramer nursed him back to health.
01:08 A flashback attempts, and mostly fails,
01:10 to answer our lingering questions.
01:12 - Without you, my work over the last few years
01:16 would not have been possible.
01:18 - Number nine, "Texas Chainsaw 3D."
01:21 - Just know that these gifts come with certain burdens.
01:27 Your real name is Edith Rose Sawyer.
01:31 - This 2013 requel is the seventh TCM project
01:35 in the franchise's history,
01:36 but acts as a direct follow-up
01:38 to the events of the 1974 original.
01:40 Alexandra Daddario plays Heather Miller,
01:42 a young woman who heads to Texas to collect an inheritance
01:45 after her biological grandmother's passing.
01:48 Yes, Heather is Leatherface's cousin.
01:50 - The decision to stay is yours.
01:54 Just remember, you're a Sawyer, and this is home.
01:59 - Creating a new mythology within an established series
02:02 is nothing new and oftentimes works well,
02:05 but making the Sawyer cannibal clan
02:06 into empathetic victims was a choice.
02:10 Some fans didn't like "Texas Chainsaw 3D" in general,
02:13 but for others, their hate comes down
02:15 to a single cringe-worthy line of dialogue
02:18 in the final showdown.
02:19 Daddario has said that she didn't like it either,
02:21 but somehow it still made the cut.
02:24 - That's right.
02:25 Do your thing, cuz.
02:30 - Number eight, "Friday the 13th, A New Beginning."
02:33 Years after his harrowing Jason Voorhees encounter
02:36 left him traumatized, we find Tommy Jarvis
02:38 staying at Pinehurst Halfway House,
02:40 and it doesn't take long for bodies to start piling up.
02:43 The maniac behind the hockey mask
02:45 was revenge-fueled paramedic and secret father Roy Burns,
02:48 who seemingly donned Jason cosplay and started killing
02:51 after his son Joey was ax murdered
02:53 by another Pinehurst patient.
02:55 - We found this on Roy.
02:56 The kid who was axed to death at the woodpile
03:01 was Roy's son.
03:02 - When you go to see a "Friday the 13th" movie,
03:04 you expect to see the infamous Jason
03:06 in all his bloody glory.
03:07 So is it any surprise that fans
03:09 absolutely hated "A New Beginning,"
03:11 the only Jason-less "Friday the 13th" movie?
03:14 Before the credits roll, Tommy wears the mask,
03:17 implying he'll be the next one to wield a machete,
03:19 but that doesn't go anywhere.
03:21 - God.
03:22 (eerie music)
03:26 - Number seven, "Halloween, The Curse of Michael Myers."
03:36 - Tommy, where is he?
03:38 - It worked.
03:40 Power of the runes stopped him.
03:41 - You'd be hard-pressed to find a "Halloween" fan
03:43 who actually liked the "Cult of Thorn" plotline
03:46 in "The Curse of Michael Myers."
03:47 Introducing supernatural elements
03:49 into an otherwise grounded horror franchise
03:51 was as nonsensical as it was baffling.
03:54 The theatrical ending sees Michael Myers
03:56 injected with green liquid by Tommy Doyle,
03:58 who proceeds to beat him with a pipe
04:00 and leaves with Kara and the kids.
04:02 The last thing we see is Michael's mask
04:05 as Dr. Loomis screams somewhere in the distance.
04:07 (man laughing)
04:10 "Halloween 666, The Producers' Cut" was released in 2014,
04:17 showing a more thorn-heavy ending involving ruins
04:20 and Loomis unwillingly becoming the new leader.
04:23 Given the choice of ambiguity or cult mysticism,
04:26 viewers chose neither.
04:28 - Come with us.
04:29 - No, I have a little business to attend to here.
04:33 - Number six, "It Chapter Two."
04:36 - I didn't know if any of you would join me
04:38 after all this time, but of course you came.
04:40 - An oath is an oath.
04:41 - 27 years after their first showdown with Pennywise,
04:44 the remaining members of the Losers Club
04:46 reluctantly returned to Derry to finish the job.
04:49 Mike, Bill, Ben, Beverly, Richie, and Eddie
04:51 find themselves under the Neibolt house
04:53 face-to-face with It in giant spider form.
04:57 A few of them start hurling insults
04:58 at the clown-spider hybrid and taunting the creature
05:01 until it shrinks to a more killable size.
05:03 - I am the eater of worlds.
05:06 - Not to us, you're not.
05:08 You're just a clown.
05:11 - After everything the Losers went through,
05:14 it turns out that all it took was hurting its feelings.
05:17 Despite accounting for a large portion
05:19 of the nearly three-hour runtime,
05:21 this final act feels a bit rushed.
05:23 To say it was anticlimactic would be an understatement.
05:26 However, we appreciate the meta joke
05:28 about Bill's bad endings,
05:30 especially coming from Stephen King.
05:32 - You want me to sign it for you?
05:34 - Nah, I didn't like the ending.
05:36 - Number five, "High Tension."
05:38 (high-pitched whistling)
05:41 An ending can ruin an entire movie,
05:46 and for a lot of people,
05:47 that is what happened with this 2003 French horror flick.
05:50 The story follows friends, Alex and Marie,
05:52 running from a deranged serial killer
05:54 who murdered Alex's family.
05:56 Or so we're made to think.
05:58 After all of the carnage,
05:59 Marie is revealed to be the actual killer,
06:02 and the terrifying man we thought was chasing them
06:04 didn't exist outside of her mind.
06:06 (speaking in foreign language)
06:10 This final twist is effectively shocking,
06:14 but not in an exciting way.
06:16 It's illogical to the events we watched unfold,
06:19 and feels like the equivalent to the,
06:21 "It was all a dream" trope.
06:23 Instead of packing the psychological punch
06:24 that was probably intended,
06:26 it left fans feeling like they just wasted 90 minutes.
06:29 (speaking in foreign language)
06:33 Number four, "The Mist."
06:44 - You can't go out.
06:45 - I won't allow it.
06:46 - Won't allow it?
06:47 - It's against God's will.
06:49 Don't you know that by now?
06:52 - "The Mist" has one of the most controversial
06:54 and polarizing endings in horror.
06:57 And even if you haven't seen Frank Darabont's
06:59 film adaptation of Stephen King's 1980 novella,
07:01 you've likely heard horror fans
07:03 complaining about its frustrating ending.
07:05 As David Drayton, his son Billy,
07:07 and three others try to escape
07:08 the mysterious creatures of The Mist,
07:10 their vehicle runs out of gas.
07:12 David uses his last four bullets
07:13 to give everyone but himself a merciful death.
07:16 Minutes later, the military arrives,
07:19 making his agonizing decision premature
07:21 and ultimately pointless.
07:23 While not necessarily a bad ending,
07:25 the tragic irony of David's poor choices
07:28 just sends some people into a fit of rage.
07:30 (screaming)
07:33 Number three, "Freddy's Dead, The Final Nightmare."
07:41 - Freddy's dead.
07:42 - Freddy Krueger is known for his dark humor,
07:44 but the silliness of the character
07:46 increased with each "A Nightmare on Elm Street" film.
07:48 By the sixth and final entry in the original saga,
07:51 Freddy was more slapstick comedy than true horror.
07:54 "Freddy's Dead, The Final Nightmare"
07:56 is an absolute fever dream of a movie
07:58 full of terrible CGI and too many pop culture parodies.
08:01 - Questions?
08:02 (gunshot)
08:04 - Yeah, what do you want?
08:06 Looks like a frying pan and some eggs to me.
08:09 - For a villain who survived many attempted killings,
08:12 surely his ultimate end will be epic
08:14 or at least satisfying, right?
08:16 Well, that depends on if you think Maggie/Katherine Krueger
08:19 blowing him up with a pipe bomb is epic.
08:21 For diehard "Nightmare" fans,
08:23 Freddy's send-off was just disrespectful to the horror icon.
08:26 - Freddy!
08:27 (screaming)
08:29 - Happy Father's Day.
08:35 - Number two, "The Happening."
08:37 Kay from Mississippi wants to know
08:40 why it started so suddenly on a Tuesday at 8.33
08:43 and then ended so suddenly at 9.27 the next morning.
08:47 - The problem people have with the end
08:49 to M. Night Shyamalan's eco-horror "The Happening"
08:52 is that it doesn't really have one.
08:54 The event causing everyone to take their own lives
08:57 just sort of stops,
08:58 allowing Elliot and Alma to live a normal life.
09:00 - I found the hair clip.
09:06 - You don't wanna be late
09:07 for the first day schools are open.
09:09 - Apparently, the plant chemical infecting people
09:11 moved out of the area to cause chaos in Paris, France.
09:14 But how and why this happens is anyone's guess.
09:17 Shyamalan doesn't employ his signature twist ending either.
09:20 This movie has earned a reputation
09:22 as one of the worst films in his filmography
09:24 and in the horror thriller genre.
09:26 - To be perfectly honest, this was an act of nature
09:30 and we'll never fully understand it.
09:32 - Before we unveil our top pick,
09:34 here are some honorable mentions.
09:36 April Fool's Day.
09:37 It was all just a prank.
09:39 Not totally surprising, but still annoying.
09:41 - Buck Williams, makeup artist, par excellence.
09:45 - Yeah, I got something for you big guy.
09:48 Here, catch.
09:48 (laughing)
09:50 These were just some old props that I redressed
09:52 with some of the help from Muffy's photographs.
09:54 - Sure fooled me.
09:55 - Truth or Dare.
09:56 Our two heroines prolong their lives
09:58 by infecting others with an unbeatable deadly game.
10:01 - It can happen anywhere and it can come from anyone.
10:06 - I'm so sorry, but I have to ask you, truth or dare?
10:10 - The Turning.
10:16 A non-ending that left audiences stunned, then angry.
10:20 47 Meters Down.
10:30 The director apparently had to push to keep this ending
10:33 and we're not sure why.
10:34 - Oh, we made it.
10:36 - What is this?
10:37 - We made it.
10:38 The Village.
10:41 Another M. Night Shyamalan twist
10:42 that still divides audiences.
10:44 - Where are you from?
10:45 - The woods.
10:50 - You came from the woods?
10:57 In there?

11:15 Number one, The Devil Inside.
11:20 - Listen to me, I'm a priest.
11:21 Please go and help those people.
11:22 - Found footage and demon possession films
11:25 aren't everyone's cup of tea.
11:26 But combining the two sub genres into one film
11:29 was intriguing enough to get horror fans
11:32 to theaters in 2012.
11:33 However, The Devil Inside left audiences confused,
11:37 unsatisfied, and most of all, furious.
11:40 Isabella Rossi works with Michael, a filmmaker,
11:43 and two priests to document
11:44 her mother's multi-demon possession.
11:46 - The job of science to try to sort out
11:48 what is a reasonable, plausible explanation.
11:51 - But science can't explain everything.
11:53 Such as a person levitating two feet off the ground
11:56 during an exorcism.
11:57 - Three of the four demons possess them,
11:59 leading to one priest's death
12:01 and a possessed Michael driving him,
12:03 Isabella, and the other priest into oncoming traffic.
12:06 Moviegoers reported booing en masse
12:08 after the abrupt ending and title card
12:10 instructing audiences to find more information
12:12 on a website.
12:13 Ambiguous endings aren't inherently bad,
12:16 but requiring viewers to go online
12:18 is incredibly lazy and guaranteed to inspire rage.
