00:00 You've said in the past that you thought this movie would be impossible to make.
00:03 Why do you think that was?
00:05 And how does it feel now that it's been made?
00:07 The it was impossible to make because Formula One, nobody appreciated it
00:11 in the United States. OK, so it was very big globally, but not but not not domestically.
00:17 And then things changed to actually do the Netflix and Drive to Survive F1.
00:24 And now the United States is the biggest Formula One venue.
00:27 Now, this is not a racing movie.
00:29 This is really a movie behind racing, behind Ferrari and the three very torrid
00:33 months in the life of Ferrari.
00:36 His second, his wife, Laura, the both in grief
00:40 over the death of their son, Dino, a year earlier.
00:43 And then also the second family that he has that she doesn't know about
00:47 with Lena Lardi and a 12 year old boy, Piero, who's now Piero Ferrari,
00:52 and all of which comes to the surface at a moment in time
00:56 in which the company is going bankrupt.
00:58 So it's all this drama is happening within
01:01 three month period in 1957.
01:04 And why was Adam and Penelope the best two leads for the movie?
01:10 Adam, because I sensed sitting across from him at a table at Santo Mama
01:15 the the total the artistic integrity and that
01:19 that you see it in somebody's eyes if you're a director, that dedication,
01:24 the commitment that Adam's absolutely the real deal.
01:29 Penelope has possesses this natural primitive
01:33 in a great way, primitive kind of life force.
01:36 She just speaks her mind.
01:38 And and I thought this and I've known her for a long time.
01:43 But when we're discussing Laura on a zoom within five minutes, I know she's Laura.
01:48 And there was nobody else on the planet who could be Laura better than
01:51 better than she could.
01:52 Except I had to mess up her hair a lot because she's so beautiful
01:55 that you've got to hit her on the head with a hammer to get it to look bad.
