00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 It was a big night last night, so in today's video we'll have both the regular NXT One
00:12 Minute One Take recap as well as Oli's full regular Dynamite review.
00:16 Content.
00:17 And after such a big night with so many huge notable moments, our top story today is…
00:22 CM Punk who was not on either show.
00:24 Makes sense to me.
00:25 But this is in fact a very big update about the CM Punk and WWE situation.
00:30 There's been rumours flying about Punk joining WWE and even them being in talks, compounded
00:34 with weeks of Punk related teasers on WWE programming.
00:38 From Rollins calling himself the best in the world, to Michael Cole referencing a CM Punk
00:42 Ring of Honor promo, to Corey Graves referencing another of his promos, and Shinsuke Nakamura
00:46 hitting a GTS on Raw.
00:47 So you'd be forgiven for thinking that these are pretty overt teasers of Punk joining WWE
00:52 before long, but seemingly not so.
00:54 Because according to both Fightful Select and House of Wrestling, CM Punk is not in
00:58 talks with WWE about joining right now.
01:01 Select's sources reportedly were adamant that the two sides were not in talks, with
01:05 a higher up mentioning that they wanted to be clear about this because they didn't
01:08 want fans setting their expectations high for Survivor Series.
01:12 One source who is close to CM Punk reportedly also backed up that they weren't in talks,
01:16 and that Punk was waiting to see if WWE would approach him.
01:20 Which seems to go slightly against what Dave Meltzer is saying on Wrestling Observer Radio,
01:23 as he said directly that WWE have rejected Punk.
01:27 They turned him down.
01:28 He wanted to go there and the decision was a no.
01:31 It can always change, and it was brought up to me.
01:33 There's no such thing as no forever when it comes to WWE, but it's no for now.
01:37 That was the decision that was made.
01:38 It's Vince's decision, Vince, Nick Khan, Paul Leveque, and obviously they decided that
01:43 the negatives outweighed the positives.
01:45 But what about all those teasers on WWE TV?
01:47 If it's not for a Punk return, then what's it for?
01:50 Well according to Fightful Select, the higher up WWE source and a top WWE talent said that
01:55 they believe that these weren't cleared beforehand, and are probably just the wrestlers
01:59 and commentators doing it themselves, with the WWE talent even mentioning that it might
02:03 be done to try and get under CM Punk's skin.
02:06 Well it's certainly got people talking, so there's that I suppose.
02:10 But also if you're not trying to set unrealistic expectations for your show in Chicago, I would
02:14 maybe...
02:17 Maybe don't tease that something's going to happen.
02:20 Might just be me though.
02:21 Meanwhile, over on Dynamite last night, there was some controversy with MJF and Juice Robinson,
02:25 where Juice told MJF that he had a roll of quarters with his name on it, and then literally
02:29 showed a roll of quarters with Max's name on it.
02:32 People haven't taken too kindly to the segment online, with Backlash accusing the segment
02:35 of feeding into anti-Semitism, which is an especially hot topic given the events happening
02:39 elsewhere in the world right now.
02:41 Fightful is reporting that MJF cleared the segment beforehand, and AEW sources noted
02:46 that it's MJF's story to tell, and he wants to tell the story on AEW's fictional television
02:51 show.
02:52 MJF spoke about this segment on X after the show, and there may have been a good reason
02:56 why this segment aired on this episode, as it potentially could be a tie-in with an appearance
03:00 Max is making later this week.
03:01 "Tonight that piece of s*** Juice Robinson decided to bring up a story from my childhood
03:05 that has left me scared.
03:06 I'm glad he did.
03:07 He brought awareness to something we've all gone through in one way, shape or form in
03:10 our lives.
03:11 On behalf of anyone who's ever been bullied for being different in any capacity, I look
03:15 forward to leaving him scared too.
03:16 I also look forward to this Thursday #StandUpToJewishHate," which was accompanied with a graphic of a
03:22 talk MJF will be doing on Thursday for Stand Up To Jewish Hate.
03:26 And now, uncomfortable segue, it's time for my NXT One Minute One Take, where I attempt
03:31 to recount everything that happened on last night's bananas episode of NXT in one minute,
03:36 and in one take.
03:37 It's gonna be real hard this one.
03:40 Okay, got my one minute timer.
03:42 Here we go.
03:43 Three, two, one.
03:44 Start the timer.
03:45 Cody Rhodes announced the Men's Breakout Tournament, the return of the Dusty Classic,
03:48 and that he was the GM for one night.
03:50 It was interrupted by Ilja Dragunov, Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio, not all of them
03:53 together though, setting up an NXT title match of Dom Dom vs. Ilja with LA Knight as a special
03:57 guest ref.
03:58 Asuka beat Roxanne Perez, the British Strong Brutes beat Gallus in a pub rules match, whatever
04:01 that means, John Cena was interrupted by Braun Breaker in the two-fighter little, the family
04:05 picture match to Cody Rhodes and wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:07 Just stop the timer for a second, because I need to explain what's going on here.
04:12 Tony D'Angelo and Stax pitched to Cody Rhodes an idea for a tag team battle royal with 10
04:17 teams involved over the top rope rules.
04:20 Then when the last two teams are left, they then have a normal tag team match and whoever
04:24 wins that tag match would face the family at Halloween Havoc.
04:28 Cody approves the idea and calls it the Badda Bing Badda Boom Battle Royal.
04:31 I can't stress enough how I'm not making any of this up.
04:34 Right, resume the timer.
04:36 Ilja beat Dom, Ilja beat Dom Dom despite Judgment Day interference and Dijak set himself up
04:40 as the next challenger along with Baron Corbin.
04:42 Cody made a triple threat number one contenders match of Corbin vs Dijak vs the winner of
04:45 Hayes vs Breaker.
04:46 That's a timer already because I didn't actually pause the timer.
04:49 Paul Heyman seems speaking to Eva, recruiting her to the bloodline perhaps.
04:52 Jade Cargill arrived and was never seen again.
04:54 Lola Vice beat Dani Palmer, some stuff happened with Chase Yu and Thea Hale.
04:56 Brian Pillwin Juniors now is Lexus King now and Carmelo Hayes beat Braun Breaker in the
05:00 main event and also The Undertaker was there and chokeslammed Braun Breaker and also Sola
05:04 Sacco was there and of course John Cena and Paul Heyman.
05:08 That's a big old show, this one.
05:11 Now over to Oli for Dynamite.
05:13 It's Wednesday, you know what that means.
05:17 Well, the day after NXT usually.
05:19 But not today, because… sports.
05:23 Baseball.
05:24 So this Wednesday, you know what that means - my review of AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday's
05:30 special… in about 5 minutes.
05:33 My New Father and yours Christian opened the show in the production truck, running down
05:36 tonight's card, and giving us the gift of the first 30 minutes, commercial free.
05:42 Thank you, Christian.
05:43 Please enjoy our mothers.
05:45 That meant we got to see all of the excellent opening match between Swerve Strickland and
05:49 Bryan Danielson.
05:50 It's a shame Swerve lost, as he could've had him go on a winning streak after beating
05:54 Hangman to build him for MJF.
05:55 But they did protect him in defeat with Hangman Page taking the crown, and Danielson vs Christian
06:00 on Saturday makes far more sense.
06:03 Even with Bryan's predictable win, though, as Christian vs Swerve on Saturday would be
06:06 heel vs heel, the match was so enjoyable.
06:09 Strickland's offence is uniquely innovative, Danielson's selling was sublime and the
06:13 pace was frenetic.
06:15 Hopefully Swerve gets the rub here and continues to rise up the card.
06:18 Samoa Joe announced he's coming for the AEW Championship again in a vignette.
06:22 Powerhouse Hobbs absolutely dominated Chris Jericho, hitting six finebusters and two World
06:27 Strongest Slams to win, almost casually with a knee across Jericho's face.
06:31 No offence, QTV, but this is how Hobbs should've been booked when he won the TNT title earlier
06:36 this year.
06:37 Jericho was later taken to Kayfabe Hospital because of his injuries, and Daddy Magic got
06:41 annoyed with Daniel Garcia for showing concern.
06:43 Of course, this episode wasn't just title Tuesday, it was actually part of AEW's larger
06:48 'let's get the belts off reportedly injured champions week 2'.
06:52 Orange Cassidy replaced a still not medically cleared Jon Moxley to face Rey Fenix for the
06:57 International Championship, which he neatly won back almost exactly a year to the day
07:01 after he first won it.
07:03 It's almost like they planned it.
07:06 While this was a lot more back and forth than FTR's five minute tag title loss on Collision,
07:10 there was the same sense of oddness you can't really escape when you're forced into booking
07:14 yet another title change.
07:16 He wasn't meant to win it in the first place, and now he's likely had to drop it because
07:20 of his own injuries.
07:21 Hopefully Cassidy can restore some much needed consistency back to this belt.
07:26 Toni Storm debuted her two part black and white silent film Lover's Lament, which
07:30 saw her solo mime act a story about trying to get to her lover.
07:34 I… I think.
07:35 The placement of a silent film in a picture in picture ad break is very smart.
07:39 But doing an actual silent film with other actors, more than just one static shot and
07:44 title cards would've made this much better.
07:46 It's like the people involved in making this have heard that silent films used to
07:49 be a thing, but never actually watched one to understand which tropes to use.
07:53 Ordo sees your Jericho squash match, Hobbs, and does it quicker, beating Matt Sydal with
07:58 a bunch of powerbombs.
07:59 Hangman Page had a really good match against Jey White, further cementing that group of
08:03 main event wrestlers vying for the No. 1 contendership position.
08:06 Page sold his knee very well throughout the match, but it was Prince Narnar getting revenge
08:10 from the Swerve match earlier, hitting him with the crown that allowed White to get the
08:15 win.
08:16 MJF then came out at level 10 intensity, and then somehow increased several more notches
08:20 by the end of the segment.
08:22 He demanded his Triple B back from White, and talked about how he's trying to be a
08:26 better person.
08:27 Neatly using the same 'looking in the mirror to ask myself if I'm the bad guy' line
08:31 he had in his CM Punk feud.
08:33 CM Punk AW return confirmed.
08:35 Jey said MJF can have the belt back if he can find three other friends to face the Bang
08:39 Bang Gang in an eight man tag, which Max Caster volunteered the acclaimed for later on.
08:44 Expertly listing the matches we can expect from this feud, Juice Robinson then said he's
08:48 coming for Max's beloved Diamond Ring in the annual Battle Royal next week, and that
08:52 he's got a roll of quarters with Friedman's name on.
08:56 In a really well performed outburst, this touched a nerve for MJF.
09:00 He's spoken twice in an AEW ring about his experience of anti-Semitic bullying at school,
09:05 where coins were thrown at him.
09:07 Combine that with Juice's fistful of quarters being his weapon of choice, and it creates
09:11 a very emotionally charged angle.
09:13 Max's storylines continue to be the best thing on Dynamite, not just making everyone
09:17 around him infinitely more interesting, but also being so three dimensional, you can reference
09:22 anti-Semitism in one segment, and have Adam Cole goofily mowing Roderick Strong's lawn
09:27 the next.
09:28 Max was becoming increasingly frustrated, unable to reach Cole on the phone.
09:32 And she does the new AEW Women's Champion again.
09:34 She beats Sarraya after Toni Storm chased off Ruby Soho and several very good nearfalls.
09:39 Hopefully this time, it's an actual reign, not just another transitional one.
09:43 And the main event had Adam Copeland beating Luchasaurus in his in-ring AEW debut, which
09:48 was followed by all the brawling.
09:51 But before then, Christian cut a pre-match promo both referencing how lame Edge's Judgment
09:55 Day run was, and telling Copeland's wife Beth Phoenix to put clean sheets on the bed
09:59 because he's going to be Edge's daughter's new father.
10:03 Motherf***er.
10:04 Literally.
10:05 Copeland's match layout was typically superb, getting jumped before the bell for a prolonged
10:09 build to his comeback.
10:10 The finish was excellently done too, where Copeland stopped Christian using the belt
10:14 on him, hit Luchasaurus over the back of the head with it, then threw it back to Christian,
10:19 making Luchasaurus think it was his mentor who struck him.
10:21 That let Copeland hit the spear to win.
10:23 Then half the roster came down to brawl, with the show going off-air on Christian wildly
10:28 tapping to Danielson's LaBelle lock - a great visual sell for their TNT title match
10:32 this Saturday.
10:33 This week's Dynamite was hugely enjoyable at 80%.
10:37 Now go watch Luke and Dan talking spooky spooky Halloween movies.
