00:02 to the unfolding tragedy in Israel and Gaza.

00:04 Now, during the times of crisis,

00:06 late night hosts often provide perspective and a little hope,

00:09 but last night, even they struggled with what to say.

00:13 -I will not pretend to have any answers

00:15 as to how to respond to a crisis like this.

00:17 -It is heartbreaking to see violence escalate,

00:19 and we hope and pray that someday peace is possible.

00:22 -Israel's now at war.

00:24 It's a nightmarish situation.

00:26 -Seth Meyers took the most serious tone

00:29 when discussing the horrific situation.

00:31 -I will only say that in the moments

00:33 when we are confronted with such evil, inhumane acts,

00:37 we are most at risk of losing our own humanity.

00:41 When we are justifiably blind with rage and sadness,

00:46 we can make choices that will have massive,

00:49 irrevocable impacts on the lives of our fellow man.

00:52 It requires the absolute best of us

00:55 to think clearly in times like this,

00:57 and I hope with all my heart the best of us can emerge

01:00 in this time of unthinkable loss.

01:03 -And while Stephen Colbert expressed his sadness,

01:05 he also ultimately tried to provide a little levity.

01:08 -Now, on this show, we always try our best to talk

01:11 about what everybody's talking about today,

01:14 but we didn't even attempt to write jokes about this.

01:17 The human mind simply refuses to do it.

01:20 Even AI refused to do it

01:22 because we went on to chat GPT, and this is true.

01:28 It responded, "The Middle East conflict

01:30 is a serious and ongoing situation

01:32 that affects many lives,

01:34 and making jokes about such matters

01:36 can easily be seen as insensitive,

01:37 disrespectful, or offensive

01:39 to those who are suffering as a result."

01:42 I, for one, want to commend our future robot overlords.

01:47 That is a rare show of humanity from something

01:49 that can't identify which photos contain a traffic light.
