00:00 Horns down, the gold cowboy hat goes back to Norman.
00:04 The Sooners, of course, on the rise in the latest AP Top 25.
00:08 After that big win, they are up seven spots to number five.
00:12 Meanwhile, Texas going down six spots to number nine
00:15 in the AP Top 25 poll.
00:18 And our college football analyst Chip Patterson
00:20 is here with us now because his ranks are
00:22 a little bit different.
00:23 The Sooners are now in the top five in the AP chip.
00:26 And you have Oklahoma as your number one team in the country
00:29 if the season ends today.
00:31 And you're saying this is based off of what teams have already
00:34 done.
00:34 So why do you have Oklahoma as number one ahead of an FSU,
00:39 a Georgia, an Ohio State?
00:40 Explain your CFP predictions for us.
00:44 Right.
00:44 I got to put myself in the position of the committee,
00:46 so I got to know what the committee likes.
00:48 And the committee likes nothing more than knowing
00:51 who did you beat.
00:53 And there is not a win in the country
00:55 that is more impressive than Oklahoma's win over Texas.
00:59 In fact, prior to Saturday, the best win in the country
01:01 was Texas's win at Alabama.
01:03 And the Sooners went and beat that team.
01:06 But it's not just that.
01:08 I mean, you just look at the way that Oklahoma has controlled
01:10 every single opponent that it's played because about five
01:13 minutes against Cincinnati, about seven minutes
01:16 against Texas.
01:17 And Jacqueline, that's it.
01:18 That is the only time that Oklahoma
01:20 has trailed all season, about 12 minutes.
01:23 I mean, we saw Florida State not even lead
01:25 for an entire bit of regulation at Clemson.
01:28 We had a 10-0 Maryland lead against Ohio State.
01:31 Sure, the strength of schedule does not stack up
01:33 against everybody else in the country,
01:35 but they've got the best win.
01:36 And they have done a better job against their competition
01:39 than anybody else.
01:41 And so that's why I've got the Sooners.
01:43 If the College Football Playoff Selection Committee were
01:45 meeting and announcing a 1 through 6 today,
01:48 I think Oklahoma would be in the number one spot.
01:51 And we were saying, Chip, hey, if Oklahoma
01:53 wants to get that win over Texas,
01:54 Dylan Gabriel is going to have to show up and give his best
01:57 game.
01:57 Boy, did we see it there.
01:59 Now, the Pac-12, they're left out of your CFP prediction
02:02 there.
02:02 But we do have a huge Pac-12 matchup on tap
02:05 for this upcoming week.
02:05 We have Washington and Oregon, top 10 matchup,
02:08 a lot of Heisman Trophy implications on the line
02:11 here with Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix.
02:13 What does a win for either team here
02:15 do for each of those guys in this race, Chip?
02:19 Oh, it probably crashes what I'm looking at in terms
02:22 of the projected top four.
02:23 Because the one thing that these Pac-12 teams are missing
02:26 are signature wins.
02:27 Their strength of schedule ratings are not very good.
02:30 And because they haven't had those opportunities
02:32 against some of the very best teams in the country,
02:34 like an Oklahoma has, like even a Texas has,
02:38 then you are not going to have those chances to do it.
02:40 But now all of a sudden, the winner of this
02:42 is going to come out of the game and be comparing itself
02:45 to Ohio State and saying, OK, now,
02:47 who's got the more impressive win?
02:48 And it's going to be a good argument.
02:51 Oregon also, as I was running the Chip-o-litics,
02:53 the fact that they are so well-rounded,
02:55 the defense is so much better than we expected,
02:57 rates very highly.
02:59 Washington, one of the best scoring margins
03:01 in the entire country, one of the best offenses
03:03 in the entire country.
03:04 Either one of these teams is a top four team
03:07 in a playoff projection if you're looking at it very much
03:10 in the moment like we are.
03:12 But the problem is they don't have a signature win.
03:15 The winner is going to have a big one on their profile
03:18 after Saturday.
03:19 Chip Patterson joining us here on Spotlight,
03:22 giving us his Chip-o-litics.
03:24 I love that.
03:24 And the CFP predictions, also talking Oklahoma.
03:27 Thanks so much, Chip.
03:28 We appreciate it.
03:29 And of course, you can hear more Chip on the Cover 3
03:31 podcast in the latest pod.
