00:00 from Manchester at the Tories conference, which very much had the feeling of a party
00:04 preparing for opposition, to this week in Liverpool at the Labour Party conference,
00:09 which has the feeling of a party preparing and getting ready for government. Even though
00:14 you won't catch any Labour politicians saying that out loud. My name is Rafe Blackburn,
00:20 I'm Nationalworld.com's politics editor, and I'm in Liverpool this week for the Labour
00:24 Party conference. So first of all, like I just said, it has a completely different feeling
00:29 here to the Tory party conference. The exhibition hall is full of businesses, which didn't come
00:35 for years during the Corbyn reign. And the conference hall as standing room only for
00:42 shadow cabinet member speeches, a far cry from the fairly deserted scenes sometimes
00:47 in Manchester. However, the horrific events in Israel have threatened to overshadow the
00:54 conference. And it's potentially have quite a big impact for Labour figures here. There's
01:01 a lot of pro-Palestine groups here. There's a lot of talks, there's a lot of stands.
01:05 And an event earlier today, Tye Valley, a solicitor, put the blame of the Hamas attack
01:13 on UK politicians, US politicians for failing to solve the crisis in the Middle East. He
01:20 criticized the Labour Party's conference with Keir Starmer saying that Israel had a right to
01:25 defend itself. And Ali also said that this attack was not a surprise at all. Now, before that,
01:31 I went to a very interesting event with Labour's shadow minister for domestic violence and
01:36 safeguarding, Jess Phillips. She was talking about one of the Labour Party's five missions,
01:42 which is to halve the incidences of violence against women and girls within 10 years.
01:48 And the way they're going to do it, she said, is to treat it like terrorism,
01:52 use the data the police use to track terrorists and crack down on repeat offenders.
01:56 Now, just earlier today, just before this, I was at an interesting event talking about the UK's
02:02 relationship with the EU. It's something that within the Labour Party, there's a lot of support
02:08 for rejoining. However, that is not something you'll catch. Keir Starmer said he's very clear
02:13 that there is no case for rejoining the single market, the customs union or the EU. He was backed
02:17 up by his colleagues today. They were very clear, despite what some Labour Party members might want,
02:25 that there's no case for rejoining. Thank you very much. You can find all of our politics
02:32 pieces on the politics section of nationalworld.com or the nationalworld.com app.
02:36 I'll see you next time.
