00:00 Abu Dhabi has been banning certain vehicles on some days.
00:03 Why?
00:04 On October 9th, buses transporting workers
00:07 with the capacity of 50 passengers and more
00:09 were banned on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street
00:12 from Sheikh Zayed Bridge to Sheikh Zayed Tunnel.
00:15 This was in effect from 6.30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
00:18 and during evening peak hours from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
00:22 It's not the only ban to have happened recently.
00:25 It happened on October 2nd,
00:27 when the entrances to several bridges
00:28 were off-limits to heavy vehicles
00:30 to give way for the opening
00:32 of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition
00:34 and Conference 2023.
00:36 And if you remember,
00:38 there was a similar ban during Ramadan in March this year.
00:41 Yes, these bans are meant to control traffic
00:44 and reduce accidents on the road,
00:46 but it goes a little deeper.
00:48 A law came into effect on October 1st,
00:50 banning vehicles with loads heavier than 65 tons
00:53 along national roads.
00:55 There is a four-month grace period happening right now.
00:58 Once it's up on February 1st,
01:00 over 150,000 heavy vehicles will be covered by this law.
