00:31 Expecting this to set up a whole three weeks of adoring Japanese fans telling me how great

00:35 I am and how much they love me.

00:37 For it to not happen a single other time after that.

00:40 Apart from a DVD show I went to, which again, not kidding, two of the six matches on the

00:46 card were won by Gucch.

00:49 Yuki Ino of the sexy tag team Pheromones submitted two different men by reversing the under part

00:56 of his ballsack over their faces.

00:58 Big stars, it was literally in Japan.

01:02 I've been trying to keep up with wrestling news as best I could while I was away, but

01:05 I'm pretty confident the top story everyone's talking about is…

01:09 Oli Davis winning his first ever Survival Series!

01:12 Yes, spoiler, but you should've watched it already because it's been up for like

01:15 three days on partsFUNknown.

01:18 You are looking at my first ever Survival Series briefcase win.

01:22 I just can't see any other wrestling news being any bigger than that.

01:25 Oh s***.

01:26 I've seen at least 24 people, including Matt Riddle, Dolph Ziggler and at least one

01:30 version of Dana Brooke.

01:32 Former AEW Champion Jade Cargill turned up at WWE Fastlane.

01:36 NXT is better than AEW now.

01:39 And yeah, CM Punk return confirmed.

01:46 But the top story in this episode is rumours WWE are still planning for the recently passed

01:51 Windham Rotunda's Wyatt Six faction to debut on TV.

01:55 Today, October 9th, marks exactly one year and one day since Bray Wyatt returned to WWE

02:01 in the closing angle of 2022's Extreme Rules Premium Live event.

02:06 A return so good, I deliriously gave the entire show a 95% score.

02:11 Even though nothing else really happened on it.

02:13 Riddle vs Rollins in a Fight Pit match was the main event nobody remembers.

02:17 But I remember because I have won a Survival Series briefcase.

02:21 Bray's return brought with him the latest characters in his vast interconnecting lore

02:26 that can be traced through his Fiend and Wyatt family history.

02:28 This time, he supposedly came back as the real person Bray, but he was haunted by the

02:33 seeming manifestation of his own insecurities Uncle Howdy, who was eventually played by

02:37 his real-life brother Bo Dallas.

02:39 The reported plan was for Wyatt and Howdy to be joined by a new, larger Wyatt Family

02:44 faction called the Wyatt Six - which would include Alexa Bliss, who had already began

02:49 teasing her turn in early 2023, and former Sanity leader Eric Young, who ended up asking

02:55 for his release in April when Vince McMahon returned to the company.

02:58 These plans were put on indefinite hold in February, though, as Bray was fighting a real-life

03:03 illness.

03:04 There was optimism Wyatt would be able to return after the Summer, but on August 24th,

03:08 somehow only a month and a half ago, news tragically broke that Windham Rotunda had

03:12 died unexpectedly aged 36.

03:15 Wyatt was a creative genius, and while not every idea worked in a wrestling ring, the

03:20 mythology and characters he created about them were fascinating.

03:24 According to Ringside News and BWE's who do take this as a rumour with a pinch of salt

03:28 rather than a report, Triple H has been listening backstage to creative pitches to reintroduce

03:34 Bray's Wyatt Six faction, noting the idea of the Funhouse and Wyatt Six are still on

03:39 the table, and that Uncle Howdy would be the one taking over.

03:49 At this point, though, it'll probably happen on NXT, as we are one day out from the one

03:53 night only special Tuesday Night War event of AEW vs NXT.

04:00 Due to a bunch of baseball on AEW Dynamite's usual Wednesday time slot on TNT, the show

04:05 is being moved a day forward to Tuesday, putting it head to head with NXT - which itself had

04:10 moved from Wednesday nights about two and a half years ago, after Dynamite had consistently

04:14 beat it during their Wednesday Night War counter-scheduling.

04:16 But the NXT of October 2023 is very different from the multicoloured midlife crisis of the

04:22 brand AEW had chased off before.

04:24 Over the last year, under the booking of Shawn Michaels, NXT has perfected the balance between

04:29 getting over homegrown athletes like Brom Breaker and Tiffany Stratton, utilising standout

04:34 indie talent like Nathan Frazier and now NXT Champion Ilya Drogunov, while also mixing

04:39 in main roster star power like Becky Lynch and Dominik Mysterio - having them win championships

04:44 elevating the developmental wrestlers rather than undermining them.

04:48 It's a winning formula that not only seriously dented AEW Collision's viewership on the

04:53 30th September, going against NXT's terrific No Mercy Premium Live event, but also saw

04:58 the October 3rd edition of NXT TV beat the October 4th episode of AEW Dynamite in total

05:04 viewership, with 857,000 over 800,000 - the first time that's happened for three years.

05:12 Although it's important to note AEW still won in the most important metric, the 18-45

05:18 demographic viewership, and there were technical difficulties about TNT announcing when exactly

05:23 that time slot would happen.

05:24 And also, NXT was coming hot off its No Mercy show, but AEW was also coming off of its own

05:30 excellent pay-per-view WrestleDream - which had what some argue is one of the best matches

05:34 of all time, the 5.5 star Dave Meltzer approved Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre Jr, and the

05:39 huge closing debut of Adam Copeland, the former Edge from WWE.

05:45 The October 4th Dynamite was heavily promoted around Copeland's return momentum, as was

05:49 the 7th episode of Collision, but surprisingly… it didn't really change much at all.

05:54 Dave Meltzer has reported Collision's fast national numbers - the immediate TV ratings

05:58 that do admittedly tend to trend upwards with the final confirmed number - did 333,000 viewers,

06:05 and a 0.08 18-45 demo rating.

06:09 These are similar numbers to how Collision performed the previous week against No Mercy,

06:12 an interesting stat in and of itself.

06:14 Right now, NXT and main roster WWE Premium live events appear to pull away the same portion

06:20 of AEW viewers.

06:21 That's either a sign of NXT's momentum right now, or just that there's a section

06:25 of wrestling fans who will always prioritise a WWE branded show over AEW, main roster or

06:31 developmental.

06:32 But Meltzer described AEW's numbers as "pretty bad", calling them "cold" right now,

06:37 and that Copeland's star power isn't translating into either increased TV viewership or live

06:42 event ticket sales - the best indicators of a wrestling promotion's popularity.

06:47 Granted, there were TV Network issues last week, but both Dynamite and Collision's

06:51 ratings overall were down the week of his debut.

06:54 And his name didn't sell a lot of tickets like AEW saw with CM Punk's return earlier

06:58 this year.

06:59 Collision at Salt Lake City only had 2,500 people in the end, with Copeland not moving

07:04 numbers.

07:05 I don't know about you, but when I watched Adam Copeland's debut in AEW on my phone

07:08 in a Tokyo hotel room, I kind of thought, oh wow, this is going to be a big thing.

07:13 AEW have an edge.

07:16 This might start to give them a bit more momentum after Punk leaving months ago.

07:20 Going by the first week of numbers, which is where you'd expect to see a difference

07:23 if any at all, that optimism appears to have been misjudged.

07:27 And the Tuesday 10th's head-to-head could increase NXT's lead even further.

07:31 In a totally unconnected coincidence, these were always the plans before we ever knew

07:35 about AEW going head-to-head with us, this week's NXT will see pre-announced appearances

07:40 from main roster superstar power John Cena, Becky Lynch, Cody Rhodes, Paul Heyman and

07:47 even a tease showing from The Undertaker.

07:49 The Undertaker doesn't even appear on Raw and SmackDown, but NXT is different from the

07:54 main roster.

07:55 Specifically, the total unsafe work environment of the car park - parking lot for American

08:00 viewers.

08:01 Thankfully Carmelo Hayes has extended his protection.

08:03 Heads up, when you get to the NXT parking lot, call me.

08:06 I'll come out and walk you in, OG, just to be safe.

08:08 But who is he saying that to?

08:11 I can't see anyone.

08:15 I'm kind of sick of that joke now.

08:16 But not everyone is being moved to NXT.

08:19 Dom just got officially called up to the main roster!

08:21 NXT's Dragon Lee is now listed as a SmackDown talent on WWE's official website.

08:27 This comes after he appeared on every single WWE show in the last week of September, losing

08:32 to Dominik Mysterio on Raw, competing on NXT the next night, showing up in the crowd on

08:36 SmackDown, then special guest refereeing Dom's match at No Mercy.

08:40 He's scuffled with Austin Theory on the following Friday's SmackDown Stun in the

08:43 program there.

08:44 After a short stint with AEW last year, Lee opted to sign with WWE in controversial fashion,

08:50 announcing it immediately after beating AEW stars FTR for the AAA World Tag Team Championships

08:56 on a AAA show.

08:57 He made his NXT debut in March, and seems set for one of the shorter NXT runs in history,

09:02 potentially moving to the main roster now just six months later.

09:05 Which leaves a gap on NXT.

09:12 Stop the press!

09:13 Oh my God, CM Punk has made an Instagram post!

09:16 And it's of a comic book panel, and we don't really know what it means, but I'm going

09:20 to talk about it anyway.

09:21 It shows Marvel characters Iron Man and Doctor Doom agreeing to a 24 hour truce, where neither

09:27 will be aggressive to each other, either personally or indirectly.

09:30 Ah yes, both Iron Man and Doctor Doom.

09:33 Characters famed for thinking they're doing the right thing, when in fact it's incredibly

09:38 destructive overall.

09:39 But it's also that psychological justified character that makes for such sympathetic

09:42 and engrossing psyches.

09:43 I'm literally wearing Doctor Doom branded trainers right now on my feet, and still somehow,

09:51 through all of this, CM Punk loyalty in my heart.

09:54 While this post in isolation isn't clear in what he's teasing, we can probably assume

09:58 he's not talking about a truce with Jungle Boy.

10:00 In last Friday's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reported it is Punk's intention

10:05 to return to WWE, and the two sides are in talks.

10:09 The November 25th Survivor Series is taking place in Punk's hometown of Chicago, so

10:14 the obvious speculation is it could happen there.

10:16 Although Punk was only fired from AEW on the 2nd September, and it's unknown if there's

10:20 a non-compete period attached to that.
