00:00 two giants of our movement, leaders of this party,
00:04 announced that they would be stepping down from Parliament.
00:07 Two women who, through their campaigning,
00:11 their encouragement, their example,
00:14 have done so much to build up women's representation
00:18 across our movement, and have inspired so many people
00:22 here today to get involved.
00:25 So, conference, let's say a proper thank you.
00:29 Harriet Harman and Margaret Beckett.
00:32 I believe in this movement.
00:43 I believe in the strength in this room.
00:46 And that is why we have made halving violence
00:50 against women and girls one of our five national missions
00:53 for the next Labour government.
00:55 (APPLAUSE)
00:57 It is a signal of our intent to tackle this scourge head on.
01:10 It means reforming the police,
01:12 compulsory training on violence against women and girls,
01:16 a specialist rape unit in every force,
01:19 dedicated rape corps,
01:21 trained domestic abuse workers in every police control room,
01:25 a proper victims' bill, a domestic abuse register.
01:29 And, yes, it means we'll take on the tech companies
01:33 who push misogyny into the minds of our children for profit.
01:38 So, why can't we imagine a society
01:41 where violence against women and girls is stamped out everywhere?
01:46 Why can't we better educate our children,
01:48 prepare them for a more equal future?
01:51 Why can't the future citizens of our country
01:56 look back at this generation, our generation,
01:59 as the one which set women free from the culture of misogyny?
02:05 Conference, the truth is we can.
02:08 And not only that, we can fight for it.
