00:00 Dakota Johnson opens up about how psychotic it was making Fifty Shades and Jamie Dornan
00:05 fuge rumors.
00:06 "If I had known at the time that's what it was going to be like, to make the movies,
00:11 I don't think anyone would've done it."
00:14 Seven years after the release of the first Fifty Shades of Grey movie, Dakota Johnson
00:19 is ready to be honest about how rough it was to make the films behind the scenes.
00:24 Johnson spoke candidly to Vanity Fair about the creative clashes on set, saying that while
00:30 she doesn't regret making the films, if she had known how psychotic the process would
00:34 be, "I don't think anyone would've done it."
00:38 She also shut down media rumors that she and her co-star Jamie Dornan had any bad blood
00:42 or secret feud.
00:44 "There was never a time when we didn't get along," she said of Dornan.
00:48 "I know it's weird, but he's like a brother to me.
00:52 I love him so, so, so much.
00:55 And we were really there for each other.
00:57 We had to really trust each other and protect each other."
01:01 As far as Fifty Shades itself, Johnson said she signed on to what was supposed to be a
01:06 very different film.
01:07 "I'm a sexual person, and when I'm interested in something, I want to know so much about
01:12 it," she started.
01:14 "That's why I did those big naked movies.
01:17 I signed up to do a very different version of the film we ended up making.
01:22 The studio, directors, and books author Rielle James, who goes by Erica, all created issues,"
01:29 Johnson confirmed.
01:30 "She [James] had a lot of creative control, all day, every day, and she just demanded
01:37 that certain things happen," Johnson said.
01:39 "There were parts of the books that just wouldn't work in a movie, like the inner monologue,
01:44 which was at times incredibly cheesy.
01:47 It wouldn't work to say out loud.
01:49 It was always a battle.
01:51 Always.
01:52 When I auditioned for that movie, I read a monologue from Persona."
01:57 "I'm a sexual person, and when I'm interested in something, I want to know so much about
02:03 it," Johnson said.

05:15 - Things happen, Johnson said.
05:18 There were parts of the books
05:19 that just wouldn't work in a movie,
05:21 like the inner monologue,
05:23 which was at times incredibly cheesy.
05:25 It wouldn't work to say out loud.
05:27 It was always a battle.
05:29 Always.
05:30 When I auditioned for that movie,
05:32 I read a monologue from "Persona",
05:34 the Ingmar Bergman classic from 1966,
05:38 and I was like, "Oh, this is going to be really special."
05:42 But when Charlie Humm,
05:43 who was initially cast as Christian Grey,
05:46 dropped out of the film, James was so enraged,
05:49 Johnson told Vanity Fair that she scrapped the script.
05:53 "I was young.
05:54 "I was 23.
05:56 "So it was scary," she said
05:58 of her three-film contract.
06:00 "It just became something crazy.
06:02 "There were a lot of different disagreements.
06:05 "I haven't been able to talk about this truthfully ever,
06:08 "because you want to promote a movie the right way,
06:11 "and I'm proud of what we made ultimately,
06:13 "and everything turns out the way it's supposed to,
06:15 "but it was tricky."
06:17 In fact, Johnson,
06:19 along with the first film director,
06:20 Sam Taylor Johnson and Dornan,
06:22 tried to salvage some of the original script.
06:25 We do the takes of the movie that Erica wanted to make.
