Demario Davis speaks with the media ahead of the Patriots game on Sunday.
Transcript
00:00 >> Darian, what's the focus for the defense this week,
00:05 just to try to get right, get back to, obviously, holding teams under 20 points?
00:10 >> Consistency.
00:11 We gotta do things that we do well.
00:14 Being successful on first and second down.
00:18 Getting out to quarterback, taking the ball away.
00:20 It's gotta be consistent.
00:21 >> What do you see from the Patriots that may be challenging?
00:26 >> I mean, they're a good team.
00:27 Well coached.
00:28 Really good quarterback, has some success in his league.
00:32 A lot of three backs in the backfield.
00:35 A lot of things with the tight ends.
00:39 Some very skilled receivers.
00:41 So it's a challenge.
00:44 It's a challenge on all fronts.
00:45 >> When you face him, Coach Allen was saying that obviously,
00:50 he's such a mastermind, he changes from week to week.
00:54 For a defender, how challenging is that, but
00:56 how exciting is that challenge to you?
00:59 >> I mean, anytime you're going up against not just one coach, but
01:03 a coaching staff that's had a ton of success in his league, there's a reason for
01:06 that success.
01:07 And they're gonna have those guys prepared.
01:10 They're gonna give you a muzzle to the looks.
01:12 You gotta be ready, not just for the things that they've shown on film, but
01:17 also the things that you haven't seen.
01:20 They're gonna know how to implement based on what they've seen in youth.
01:25 So you just gotta be ready for all of it.
01:28 >> Mark, what's the week of preparation been like?
01:30 I know you guys don't reflect too far behind you or look too far ahead, but
01:34 I mean, everything that you wanna do is right at the skill level.
01:41 >> It's all in the process.
01:42 It's all in your process.
01:43 It's not the product of wins and losses that matter.
01:47 It's the senior process, and we're constantly trying to perfect that process.
01:51 We're constantly trying to get better.
01:55 We know we haven't played our best football, and so that's what we're trying
01:58 to get to.
01:59 We could be here right here 4-0, we haven't played our best football.
02:04 We could be chasing it.
02:05 We could be here 4-0, we haven't played our best football.
02:08 We could do a lot worse.
02:09 But that's the goal, is how do we get to that as quickly as possible.
02:13 I think that's universal.
02:16 But our goal is to be the first one to arrive at that point.
02:20 >> What has changed about the process this week?
02:25 >> You just go, you just go.
02:27 I don't know if it's anything that has changed dramatically.
02:32 I think anytime you haven't played your best football,
02:36 a sense of urgency has to happen.
02:38 And that's all, I think, not that our urgency hasn't been there, but
02:44 it has become more of an emphasis on the urgency in our communication,
02:48 in the detail of the process.
02:52 And the big time players stepping up and what's needed for us to be successful.
02:58 So I like it, we're excited about this, we're pretty excited about this challenge.
03:04 >> You mentioned Mac a little bit.
03:07 He's had some turnover problems, especially in the last week or so.
03:11 What have you maybe noticed that's caused him to be suspended up or
03:15 some turnover problems?
03:16 >> I think he's a very good football player.
03:19 I don't necessarily defend the guy for his weaknesses.
03:23 I'm looking at the ways that he can hurt you.
03:27 And I think he's deceptively savvy in the pocket.
03:31 He can extend plays, he keeps his eyes down the field.
03:34 He knows where to go with the football, he can make all the throws.
03:37 And especially as he gets closer to the end zone,
03:39 you can see him move around and make some magic happen.
03:42 And it's gonna be a tough challenge.
03:45 I don't see too many weaknesses with him.
03:48 So I'm definitely excited about that challenge.
03:50 >> Extending plays was obviously something that occurred last week and
03:54 caused an issue.
03:54 What are some of the keys to handling quarterbacks that do wanna come?
03:58 >> Man, we gotta get to the quarterback.
03:59 It's just point blank period.
04:00 I don't care if he's running.
04:01 I don't care if he's getting rid of the ball in two seconds.
04:03 We gotta get to the quarterback.
04:05 And we take a lot of pride in that we've had.
04:07 We play our best football when we're doing that.
04:09 And so the hunters gotta hunt point blank period.
