00:00 France is among countries expressing interest to help the Philippines to shift to renewable
00:04 energy sources and expand its civil nuclear energy program.
00:08 France has one of the largest nuclear energy programs in the world.
00:11 68% of its electricity comes from nuclear power.
00:15 In an interview with CNN Philippines, French Ambassador to the Philippines Marie Fontanelle
00:19 says France is willing to share their technology.
00:22 We could partner together in order to make this transition.
00:28 You know probably that France has expertise in civil nuclear energy.
00:33 It's decarbonized energy and it's more respectful for the planet.
00:39 The ambassador also acknowledges that there may be apprehensions with the use of nuclear
00:43 power over safety issues.
00:45 I do really think that now it's possible to build a framework of security, prevention
00:51 of risk, etc.
00:52 At least in France, we never had to face any incidents and the part of nuclear energy is
01:00 quite high in our countries.
01:02 France is also aiming to boost cooperation in agriculture.
01:05 The envoy even expressed her surprise over the Philippines' tendency to import more
01:10 rice, fish and salt.
01:11 The global agriculture system could be more efficient probably.
01:16 And since indeed France has expertise, experience in agriculture, sustainability also, we do
01:24 think that we have room for cooperation.
01:27 France also supports food security programs such as the Food Stamps Initiative recently
01:31 launched by the Marcos administration.
01:34 We are dependent in the field of agriculture and the ultimate goal I would say of our cooperation
01:42 is once again self-reliance, autonomy and to be less dependent.
01:47 The new French envoy also wants to pursue programs on women's rights and gender equality.
