Fantasy Football Week 5 Start 'em, Sit 'em
Transcript
00:00 There are four teams on by in week five and that might make it a little trickier to set a winning lineup
00:05 But never fear we have Michael Fabiano sports illustrated senior fantasy analyst to help you make the right decisions
00:11 Okay fab, let's kick it off with the quarterback position who is locked and loaded in our lineups this weekend
00:16 Let's see. Where's Jared Goff playing this week, Jen?
00:20 Home
00:23 That's right. That's why he's a stardom. It's like the easiest
00:27 stardom sit-em
00:29 Scenario if he's at home, I'm playing him if he's on the road
00:32 I'm not playing him 27 touchdown passes and five interceptions in his last 11 games at Ford Field
00:38 The Panthers have actually been tough on quarterbacks, but I am going against that matchup
00:42 I'm still starting Jared Goff and let's stay in that same division with Jordan Love who's playing on Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders
00:49 And what I'll call the Devonta Adams revenge game
00:52 Jordan Love is averaging right around 20 fantasy points per game
00:55 Other Raiders have been generous to quarterbacks giving up more than 20 points per game to that position
01:00 Jordan loves been good. I'm starting him over some big names like Joe Burrow who we're gonna mention here in a second
01:07 Yeah, Jordan Love
01:09 I believe last I checked the QB for on the season which is much higher than both of the quarterbacks that you're about to sit
01:14 One of which belongs to our favorite team, but go ahead. Just give us the bad news
01:19 Who is it? I don't know if I can play Joe Burrow ever again unless he puts up a good stat line now
01:26 I'm doing this because I'm superstitious and I'm thinking that maybe if I say Joe Burrow is my state of the week at quarterback
01:32 They'll have a big game. I don't know but the fantasy gods are cruel, but he's averaging eight points a game
01:38 Like this is Joe Burrow. His numbers are awful and it's all about that calf injury
01:43 He can't push the ball downfield and the matchups really good against the Cardinals
01:47 But it was really good last week against Tennessee and he gave us bumpkins so I can't play Joe Burrow folks
01:53 I'm sorry. I have Joshua Dobbs ranked higher than Joe Burrow. I don't know what planet I'm on
01:57 But this is where we're at right now
01:58 This is the reality of our fantasy football leagues and then Dak Prescott, you know
02:02 Dak has only had really one good game from a fantasy perspective. He's on the road this week
02:07 It's a huge game against the Niners their defense dating back to last year
02:12 Just two opposing quarterbacks playing in San Francisco have had more than 13.8 fantasy points
02:17 I guess maybe it's Santa Clara, but this is not a good matchup for Dak Prescott
02:21 You may have to start him because there's four teams off, but you don't have to like it
02:26 Moving over to the running back position. Who should we be starting this weekend?
02:30 And this one's kind of low-hanging fruit, but that's alright David Montgomery three touchdowns against the Packers last week
02:37 He is the best fantasy running back in Detroit. I've been saying it since week two
02:40 Jameer Gibbs forget about it. He's a flex starter at best. This is a really good matchup against Carolina
02:45 They've allowed seven touchdowns and the fourth most fantasy points to running backs this season and I'm also starting Brees Hall
02:51 I've got my fingers crossed and my toes crossed because he's been horrible for most of the year
02:56 But it's I guess the Jets offense, but this is a great matchup
02:59 I mean Denver's defense has allowed four running backs to score more than 20 points for and that includes the Vaughn a
03:06 Chain whose name I can never get right. It's a Chan by the way
03:10 I 51 point three points against the Broncos defense. I'm starting Brees Hall and I actually feel pretty good about it
03:17 Yeah, the Broncos defense is so bad that I actually picked up Zach Wilson for a super flex league
03:24 So yeah, I'm with you start players versus the Broncos. I think that's a must
03:28 All right, who are we sitting at the running back position? I've
03:31 Given up on Najee Harris as a regular starter the last two weeks is a good matchup. So yeah, the Raiders did nothing
03:38 He did nothing against Houston either last week. I can't trust it
03:42 I just can't when you look at the numbers. I mean the Ravens defense is tough on backs
03:47 They've allowed just one touchdown a fewer than 18 points per game to the position this year
03:50 And with four teams off and you maybe have to play them, but Najee's been terrible and then Damian Pierce
03:57 He's had a couple of good games in a row
03:59 It's been better
04:00 But Houston's offense has been much more explosive through the air than it's been on the ground to the surprise of just about everybody out
04:06 There when you look at the numbers to only the Cowboys have a lot fewer fantasy points the running backs in Atlanta
04:12 Through the first four weeks, so it's not a great matchup Pierce is a risk reward flex
04:17 Yeah
04:19 Pierce is questionable until Laramie Tunsil comes back
04:21 I mean that o-line also isn't a good setup for him right now, but well Houston is impressive
04:26 Otherwise, let's move over to the wide receiver position. Who are we firing up this week?
04:32 Let's start Michael Pittman jr
04:34 I know he had a stinker last week, but for the most part he's been really good this year
04:37 And the matchup is very good against the Tennessee Titans
04:40 I mean this is a team that struggles against perimeter receivers giving up the sixth most points and Pittman in his career
04:46 14 points per game scored against the AFC South rival and then I'm gonna go with Zay Flowers. I didn't love him last week
04:52 He was a player that still started in a lot of leagues because Odell Beckham jr. And Rashad Bateman were out
04:58 But this is a good matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers
05:01 They've given up six touchdowns and the fifth most fantasy points to receivers. So flowers should
05:06 Blossom in this AFC North matchup. I know it's a bad joke. I couldn't let it pass
05:11 Okay, I'm gonna give you a pass on that and I'm gonna ask you to tell me who were sitting at the position and I
05:18 Noticed you have one guy on this list who actually needs his team in targets, but doesn't lead his team in receiving yards
05:27 So I'm gonna go with Drake London who scored a touchdown in London last week coincidence. Maybe not
05:32 I don't know but we're back on North American soil and
05:34 Drake London has been really hard for me to predict but the matchups not good
05:39 I mean tennis the Texans defense has been really tough on perimeter receivers
05:43 In fact, no one at the position has scored a touchdown in a matchup against Houston this year
05:47 So beware Drake London and then beware Coral and Sun. Well, it's actually been good, right?
05:53 I mean you look at this numbers 11 plus points in every single game, but it's the Jets
05:57 He could match up against sauce Gardner in this one the Jets defense after four weeks
06:01 I have really been tough on perimeter receivers. There has not been a perimeter receiver to score a touchdown against them
06:07 So Coral and Sutton is a risk reward flex this week folks
06:10 Keep in mind four teams off injuries all over the place some of these players with bad matchups
06:16 You're gonna have to play just temper your expectations
06:18 All right. Finally the tight end position in our favorite position
06:23 Who are we starting this weekend?
06:26 Except for not at all. How about Zach hurts like he's really had one bad game all year. He's getting targeted a ton
06:33 He is one of the most reliable tight ends and fantasy football
06:36 He has scored eight plus points in three or four games including two with more than 11
06:40 He's become a very popular target for Joshua Dobbs and the Bengals have allowed the sixth most points at tight end
06:46 So I'm starting Zach hurts and I'm starting Tyler Higby now keep tabs on the status a little bit banged up if
06:51 Cooper Cup is able to come back this week that could hurt Higby status a little bit because the targets will be spelled out
06:56 Spread out a little bit more but Philadelphia's defense has given up three touchdowns and the third most fantasy points at tight ends
07:02 so it's a good spot for Tyler Higby and
07:05 finally
07:07 One of the guys that you may have had high hopes for makes this sit list
07:11 Once again, and I just have to say like is there something to like if a guy's name is pits
07:16 Should you know it's kind of a negative connotation
07:19 Is that like subliminal messaging because that's kind of how it's been this season for those who drafted
07:25 Yeah, I guess so
07:26 I actually got to give him credit because he makes
07:29 Writing the sit-em portion of this column for tight ends really easy for me because I always have one he's not done anything
07:35 Listen, John who Smith John who Smith?
07:39 Has more fantasy points than Kyle Pitts on his own team in the last two weeks
07:43 It's just dreadful. The matchup's not great against Houston if this were any other position
07:49 I think Kyle Pitts would be on the waiver wire
07:50 But because tight end is so paper thin people are hoping that maybe he turns it around folks
07:54 I don't think it's gonna happen
07:56 I'm not playing him and then I'm not playing a hunter Henry against the Saints
07:59 Henry had a really hot start to the season the last couple of games have not been as good and the Saints defense
08:05 Has allowed one touchdown and the fourth fewest fantasy points at tight end
08:09 So that Patriots offense does not bring a lot of fantasy value here right now
08:13 Even Ramon Ray Stevenson is struggling. This is gonna be a really low scoring game
08:18 And I can't play a hunter Henry with any kind of confidence
08:21 Yeah, the Patriots did not look good last weekend versus the Cowboys. I mean Mac Jones getting benched in the third quarter
08:28 They say he's gonna start but yeah, I'm with you. I don't feel comfortable starting any Patriots players right now
08:34 Thank you so much as always Babs
