00:07 The 64-year-old Norwegian playwright was awarded the prize for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable, as NPR reports.
00:16 While Foss is not well known to the general public outside of Norway, he is internationally celebrated within the literary community.
00:25 He has been referred to as the most produced living playwright, NPR reports.
00:30 "His immense oeuvre, written in Norwegian Norsk and spanning a variety of genres, consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children's books and translations," the Nobel Prize Committee said via a statement.
00:42 While he is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world, he has also become increasingly recognized for his prose.
00:50 Foss began as a novelist, only to break through as a playwright in his 40s.
00:58 In 1998, he became internationally known with a Paris production of "Someone is Going to Come Home".
