Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) spoke with the press yesterday where he made shocking accusations about Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) after the ousting of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership.
Transcript
00:00 I'm just curious, you're obviously close to Kevin McCarthy, you saw what happened yesterday
00:05 in the House.
00:07 What is just your level of frustration with your former House colleagues who voted to
00:11 oust him?
00:12 That would be pretty high, if you say my level is pretty high.
00:14 You got eight people over there that say they stand on principle and policy, and it's really
00:21 all about self-promotion.
00:23 What aggravates me the most is that these individuals that said they're pro-America,
00:28 they voted with 208 Democrats to support their motion, yet claiming at the same time that
00:35 Kevin McCarthy was working with Democrats, and yet he never worked outside the majority
00:39 of his own majority.
00:41 It's beyond frustrating.
00:42 So do you think that there should be any action taken against Matt Gaetz?
00:46 You know, that's up to the House, I'm not over there, so I'll let them work it out.
00:50 But as far as Matt Gaetz himself, you got to think about this guy.
00:54 This is a guy that didn't have, that the media didn't give a time of day to, after he was
00:58 accused of sleeping with an underage girl.
01:00 There's a reason why no one in the conference came and defended him, because we had all
01:05 seen the videos he was showing on the House floor that all of us had walked away of the
01:09 girls that he had slept with.
01:11 He'd brag about how he would crush ED medicine and chase it with an energy drink so he could
01:18 go all night.
01:19 This is obviously before he got married.
01:21 And so when that accusation came out, no one defended him, and then no one on the media
01:24 would give him a time of the day.
01:26 All of a sudden he found fame because he opposed the Speaker of the House back in November,
01:31 and he's always stayed there.
01:33 And he was never going to leave until he got this last moment of fame by going after a
01:39 motion to vacate.
01:41 Doing exactly the opposite of what, or doing exactly what he was accusing the Speaker of
01:49 doing, by saying that he was working with Democrats.
01:51 Exactly what he had to do to move him.
01:53 94% of the conference is in Kevin McCarthy's favor.
01:59 94.
02:00 8 teamed up with 208 Democrats to oust the Republican Speaker.
02:04 That's shameful.
02:05 And before I let you go, what do you think this reflects on Republicans and the ability
02:09 to govern when people see this leadership crisis over there?
02:12 Keep in mind, it's not Republicans.
02:14 It's 8.
02:16 It's 8.
02:17 8 of them.
02:18 That's it.
02:19 6% of the conference teamed up with Democrats.
02:22 So I would have a hard time actually saying they're true Republicans.
02:27 They're about promoting themselves.
02:29 They're Republicans by name and registration only.
02:33 If they were for the party, they would have done what was best for the party.
02:35 What was the party doing now?
02:37 We're not able to do anything.
02:38 The investigations on Joe Biden doesn't exist because we can't move forward until we get
02:43 a new Speaker.
02:44 The investigations on Hunter Biden doesn't exist because we can't move forward until
02:48 we get a new Speaker.
02:49 The appropriation process to which they said they wanted to do, yet they kept holding up
02:53 the rule moving forward, we can't move forward with the appropriation process, which is going
02:56 to move us straight to a CR, another CR, which they were mad at Kevin for doing, but yet
03:01 they're going to force a CR come November now.
03:04 So it's nothing about the Republicans.
03:08 It's about these 8.
03:09 And that's where the American people should focus on is these 8.
03:11 And they'll hurt their ability to keep the House, do you think?
03:14 I don't think so.
03:15 Election's a long ways away.
03:16 It depends on what happens between now and then.
03:19 - Good. - I'll let you go.
03:19 - All right, thank you. - Thanks for your time.
