00:00 The last time that Alfa Romeo made a real sports sedan,
00:03 your parents were in diapers.
00:04 However, Alfa's back with the Giulia
00:07 and the Quadrifoglio version of it
00:09 competes directly with the Cadillac ATS-V.
00:12 They both have twin turbo engines,
00:14 rear wheel drive and manual transmissions.
00:17 This is the head to head I really wanted to do.
00:20 Except at the very last second,
00:21 Alfa Romeo yanked out the stick shift,
00:23 put in an automatic and that means the Giulia competes
00:26 also against the AMG C63.
00:29 Huh, the last time we had the Mercedes
00:31 together with the Cadillac, the Mercedes won.
00:33 So I can't do the Cadillac in the head to head
00:35 and I don't do the show alone.
00:38 I have to deal with Johnny
00:39 and he insisted on bringing the BMW M3.
00:41 (car horn honking)
00:43 - Sup bro?
00:44 - I know the BMW is the car that defines the segment,
00:47 but you do realize it lost to a Camaro, right?
00:50 - Oh, not only did the M3 lose to a Camaro,
00:52 it also lost to that AMG and that Cadillac.
00:54 - You just proved my point.
00:56 - Except that I think the boys in Bavaria
00:57 are not only watching these videos,
00:59 they're listening to what we're saying
01:00 because this is the new M3 competition pack.
01:04 And not only does it have more power,
01:06 but they made a lot of fundamental changes to the car.
01:08 Look, I just drove it up this hill
01:10 and after doing so, I bet you it's not only better
01:12 than the AMG and the Cadillac,
01:14 it's better than the Alfa Romeo too.
01:15 - So we have a head to head to head to head.
01:19 - No, it's still a head to head.
01:20 We just have to eliminate two competitors.
01:22 - Ah, all right, so you ready to go drive them?
01:24 - Yes.
01:25 - Are you wearing your diaper?
01:26 - Always, are you?
01:28 - Depends.
01:29 (upbeat music)
01:32 - Waking the dead.
01:36 Yes, please.
01:38 Yeah, buddy.
01:40 (car engine roaring)
01:43 Going off the range, give me all you got.
01:47 - Listen, a lot of work goes into planning
01:51 these head to heads.
01:52 - That's right, we don't just snap our fingers
01:54 and the cars show up, we actually have to text people.
01:56 - This time, it was the decision that was the hard part.
01:59 We knew we were gonna compare the Alfa Giulia
02:01 to something, we just didn't know what.
02:02 - So we brought everything, the entire competitive set.
02:07 Although I guess we forgot the Volvo Polestar,
02:09 but then again, so did you.
02:11 - We're stumped, what are we gonna do?
02:15 - Well, since we are standing in the middle of a racetrack
02:17 and we have Randy back there,
02:19 why don't we drive all three cars back to back to back,
02:22 let him set lap times and we'll go from there.
02:24 - Okay, so long as we're not picking the winner
02:26 solely based on its lap time,
02:27 because they're sports sedans, they're not race cars,
02:29 they do other things.
02:30 - I mean, if you wanna pick the best performance car
02:31 based on its backup camera, be my guest.
02:33 - It's a factor.
02:34 I think the C-Class pulls off luxury car
02:39 better than any of the other cars do.
02:41 - Yeah, if you look at the non-steroid version
02:43 of all these cars, you know, you could say,
02:45 okay, the 3 Series or the Cadillac,
02:46 that is just the sportiest out of the box.
02:48 This is in another class, the C-Class, like the C300,
02:52 that's a luxury car.
02:53 You know, when I have people saying,
02:54 "Which one should I buy?"
02:55 I'm like, "What do you care about?"
02:55 They're like, "I sit in traffic a lot."
02:56 I'm like, "Get the C-Class."
02:57 - Yeah.
02:58 - If it didn't have this dumb carbon fiber right here,
03:01 I might even pick it as the winner
03:02 just based on the interior, 'cause it's gorgeous.
03:04 - And then there's this motor.
03:06 I mean, look, six cylinders, all well and good.
03:08 V6 is meh.
03:09 V8, ain't nobody don't love a V8.
03:12 - However, I will say, you're fighting the rear a lot.
03:14 Fun, it's fun.
03:15 - It is fun, and it's just far better
03:18 on the racetrack than I expected it to be.
03:20 The only real disappointment to me
03:22 is that the steering kinda turns to goo.
03:24 And there's all this play here
03:26 where it just kinda nothing's happening.
03:28 It just doesn't do the sport sedan thing
03:30 as well as it does the luxury sedan.
03:32 But it's tail happy.
03:33 I mean, look, a little throttle.
03:34 Woo-hoo-hoo, it comes right around all day.
03:37 I'm glad we're getting back in this car
03:38 because it reminds me that the C-Class
03:39 is genuinely a great car, and this AMG is a fun car.
03:43 - I concur.
03:43 Let's try the other ones.
03:44 - Okay.
03:45 (engine revving)
03:46 - Well, it certainly is not the luxury car that the AMG is.
03:50 - Yeah, but listen to that noise.
03:52 I mean, strangely, the speaker grills are vibrating
03:54 to exactly the same tune as the engine.
03:56 - You know, it's funny you say that
03:57 'cause I ask Cadillac, "What did you change?"
03:59 They're like, "Nothing."
04:00 I'm like, "No, you changed something
04:02 "because this car actually sounds pretty good now."
04:04 - I mean, it's all coming from the speakers.
04:06 - Hey!
04:06 - Hey, whatever, it sounds really good.
04:07 - It's gotta come from somewhere.
04:08 (engine revving)
04:09 - I did a couple laps in this thing,
04:11 and I want to invent a new word.
04:13 It's dy-magic.
04:15 This is the combination of dynamic and magic.
04:18 - Dynamic and magic, yeah.
04:19 Look, this thing is so good.
04:21 You get to the apex of a corner,
04:22 and you can just mad it,
04:24 and you have the stability that you normally associate
04:27 with an all-wheel drive car,
04:28 but then you still have steering.
04:30 The steering doesn't go away.
04:31 This thing is just rocking.
04:33 It's using all four tires all the time,
04:36 so it's never leaving any speed on the table
04:38 with understeer or oversteer.
04:39 I don't know what sorcery is happening
04:41 underneath in this chassis controls
04:43 with the MR dampers and that diff,
04:45 but something is going on where the computer
04:47 doesn't have to ever step in to fix a problem
04:50 because it's preventing the problem
04:51 from happening in the first place.
04:53 Dy-magic.
04:54 - I'll go with dy-magic, but it's just great engineering.
04:56 You know, and remember, ATSV, the Camaro,
04:59 and the CTSV, they're all related.
05:01 It's hours and weeks and months and years
05:03 spent on the Nurburgring.
05:05 What a great performance sedan,
05:06 but not so great in the luxury sedan department.
05:08 It doesn't have that duality
05:10 that some of these other cars do.
05:11 But I would say this, it is so good out here
05:15 that, boy, if you care about performance,
05:17 you might be willing to overlook all that stuff
05:19 and choose this ATSV.
05:20 (engine revving)
05:23 Wow, this is so much closer to M4 GTS
05:25 than it is to regular M3 and M4.
05:27 They have done a lot of work.
05:29 I mean, look, power to the ground.
05:31 It happens, it works.
05:33 This is finally an M3 that is not completely
05:35 and totally overwhelmed by its own power.
05:38 But it turns, there's not a lot of slop in the steering,
05:40 it's well-balanced, it does everything I want to
05:43 as a driver's car on a racetrack,
05:45 and that is the last thing I thought
05:46 I'd ever say about an F80.
05:48 No, it's an incredible change.
05:50 You still find the rear end a little bit,
05:52 but much less so than the AMG.
05:55 Steering is improved, I still don't love it around town.
05:58 It's okay on a racetrack, you know,
05:59 you're working hard, it's good.
06:00 The sound, somehow it's the best sounding.
06:03 - It's the only of the six-cylinder cars here
06:05 that has music in the inside, it's not noise.
06:08 (engine revving)
06:09 This chassis doesn't work as well as the ATS,
06:12 but in that car, you're aware that there's computers,
06:15 that the MR dampers and the diff
06:16 that are doing magic things to make the car
06:18 take advantage of all of this grip at all times.
06:20 This car, you're doing it, which I kind of like.
06:23 That's a step behind the ATS in one respect,
06:26 meaning that car's easier to drive.
06:28 But this is a little bit more fun.
06:29 - I guess, you know, my fundamental problem with the car
06:31 is like, what took 'em so long?
06:33 Why wasn't it like this out of the gate?
06:35 What were the sign-off engineers thinking?
06:37 Because somebody had to say, with the old one,
06:39 good enough, let it go, and it's like,
06:41 no, actually it's the competition pack
06:43 where it's finally good enough.
06:45 How did they turn that car into this?
06:47 - Well, I mean, they built the GTS,
06:48 and they probably said, what's the cheap stuff?
06:50 We can take off the GTS and put onto the competition car.
06:54 - Boy, did it really fix my opinion of this car.
06:57 - Yeah, look, last time we did this kind of head-to-head,
07:00 you know, the actual head-to-head
07:02 was between the Cadillac and the AMG,
07:05 because I didn't care about the M3 at all.
07:07 This time, I think this is in the mix.
07:09 - Oh, is it ever.
07:12 So obviously, what we really need to do
07:14 is slow down and give this to the helmeted one.
07:17 - That's right.
07:18 - And get a lot more. - Let's see what Randy
07:18 can do with the car.
07:19 (car engine revving)
07:23 (upbeat music)
07:25 (car engine revving)
07:52 - Well, if all that mattered was how the cars did
07:55 on this track, the winner would be the Cadillac.
07:59 - There's that dynamo magic stuff I was talking about.
08:02 - Thank you, Randy.
08:03 Yeah, that word you made up is very true, the Cadillac.
08:06 - However, wasn't the fastest.
08:08 Look at the lap times.
08:08 - Oh, look at that.
08:09 But what's interesting though,
08:11 it's only two tenths of a second.
08:12 And as you say, lap times don't matter.
08:13 And we know the power's about the same between these two,
08:15 and this one's about 100 pounds heavier.
08:17 So really, it's right there.
08:19 - Right, but what's not right there
08:20 is look at how much slower the AMG is.
08:22 I had no idea it was gonna be that much slower.
08:24 And the weird thing is, the last time you did a head-to-head
08:26 with these two cars, their lap times
08:28 were within a tenth or two, right?
08:29 - And the Mercedes was faster.
08:30 But the thing is, we did that at Big Willow,
08:32 which is a huge horsepower track.
08:34 Here, it's much more technical.
08:36 That Mercedes is under-tired, and it's just too heavy.
08:39 It's 200 pounds heavier than the Cadillac,
08:40 300 pounds heavier than the M3.
08:42 - Okay, so we have a clear finishing order on the lap time.
08:46 Why don't we do this way?
08:47 Take everything you know about these cars
08:49 and rank them first, second, and third.
08:50 We'll do golf scoring on this.
08:52 - I mean, in my mind, it's very, very close.
08:54 I'm just gonna say because it's so fresh in my mind,
08:56 and we're here at the track,
08:56 the Cadillac, we get my first place vote.
08:59 BMW is very close second, and a totally distant third,
09:02 maybe fourth place, is the AMG.
09:03 - Okay, and I'm gonna do first, second, and third.
09:07 Wow, looking at the gestalt of it.
09:08 So we have what, four, five, and nine.
09:11 (laughing)
09:13 Okay, wow, okay.
09:14 - So that means that our head-to-head
09:16 is the BMW and this beautiful Alfa.
09:18 - So we're good, we can finally start this head-to-head.
09:20 - Let's do it.
09:22 (car engine revving)
09:23 - Hi there.
09:24 (tires screeching)
09:25 - No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:26 They've waited long enough.
09:26 Get in the car, thank you.
09:28 - Bye there, get in.
09:30 (laughing)
09:31 (car engine revving)
09:34 (upbeat music)
09:48 - So finally we're in the Alfa Romeo Giorgio.
09:52 - This is the Giulietta, actually.
09:54 - Yeah, but it's on the Giorgio platform.
09:56 Years ago, Fiat said, "Hey, we're gonna build
09:58 "this new platform called Giorgio,
10:00 "and we're gonna lock all of our best engineers
10:02 "from Ferrari and Maserati in a room together,
10:05 "and tell them you're not coming out
10:06 "until you make the best sports sedan in the world."
10:08 - And nothing scared me more,
10:09 because in my mind what that meant was
10:11 they were gonna take a Chrysler 300,
10:12 I mean, Lancia Tima, and cut eight inches out of it
10:15 and add the steering rack off of a Jeep
10:17 and add a wing off of a Viper or something,
10:19 and it would just be a bag of garbage.
10:22 - But they didn't.
10:22 - What?
10:23 They sure did not, dude.
10:24 - This shares nothing with nobody.
10:26 I mean, this is 100% new, and it's awesome.
10:29 It's such a great platform.
10:32 - Even the engine is all new.
10:33 - Now does that have a name, like Flavio,
10:35 the flavor Flavio?
10:36 - Yeah, actually it's the Ferrari California.
10:39 Because it's a California V8, it's truncated,
10:43 it's got two cylinders lopped off.
10:45 - And it's 90 degrees, which is bizarre.
10:47 - Without balance shafts.
10:48 The crazy thing is, this thing is smoother
10:51 than the BMW straight six.
10:53 - It's smoother than that AMG V8.
10:55 - The only weird thing about this engine
10:56 is the exhaust note.
10:58 We're not hearing a V6, we're hearing
11:00 two three-cylinder smart cars having an argument, right?
11:04 - Remember the BMW i8?
11:05 It sounds like one of those jacked up,
11:07 it's like, "Ahh!"
11:08 - It's awesome.
11:10 - But the power, can we talk about that for a second?
11:13 505 horsepower, 443 pound feet of torque.
11:17 - All of them accounted for.
11:18 - 505 out of 2.9 liters is nuts.
11:20 I mean, this is crazy, and you can buy this.
11:22 This isn't some crazy million dollar car,
11:24 you can go buy one, right?
11:25 You can have a little bit of money, but I mean,
11:27 and look at this.
11:28 - What I like is, while the engine is turbocharged
11:30 to the moon and back, it doesn't have hideous lack.
11:34 It's there, but the transmission, the gears are crazy short,
11:37 and the gearing works with you.
11:38 - This eight speed is great.
11:41 - The best part is it's got shift paddles on the column.
11:44 - Right, now there's some confusion there,
11:46 because some people say, "Well, I don't know,
11:47 "like, do you want column mounted shift paddles,
11:49 "or steering wheel mounted shift paddles,
11:51 "so you always know where the paddles are?"
11:52 - This is not a debate, this is a matter of right
11:55 versus wrong.
11:56 - And if you like the steering wheel mounted ones,
11:57 you are wrong!
11:58 - You are totally wrong!
11:59 - You know what would be even better
12:01 than those column mounted shifters?
12:02 - A six speed manual transmission.
12:04 - Can we just take a moment of silence
12:05 for the stillborn manual transmission,
12:07 the one that was supposed to be
12:08 the only transmission in this car?
12:11 (suspenseful music)
12:13 Okay.
12:14 What's your favorite conspiracy theory
12:16 for why there's no manual transmission?
12:18 Because all the press materials said,
12:20 it's gonna be a manual, and then at the launch, bam!
12:22 Sorry, just kidding.
12:23 - Is stupidity a conspiracy?
12:25 - Yes, yeah, raw stupidity.
12:27 - What's your theory?
12:27 - Crash testing.
12:28 - What does that have to do with the transmission?
12:30 - Well, do you remember the last generation smart car,
12:33 which when it came to the US,
12:34 had the worst transmission in the known universe?
12:36 - Yeah.
12:37 - Okay, the reason it didn't get a manual in the US
12:39 is because during crash testing,
12:41 the clutch pedal was cutting off the dummy's feet.
12:44 And I bet you that happened,
12:45 and Europe has different crash tests than America does,
12:47 and they said, you know what?
12:49 Rather than do any reworking of this thing, just kill it.
12:52 No manual transmission.
12:54 Speaking of things that are lopping off people's ankles,
12:56 you know, I wonder if maybe the brakes
12:58 have anything to do with crash too.
12:59 Because that's a by wire brake pedal.
13:01 There's no physical connection to the real brakes.
13:03 This system was designed by Continental
13:05 for blended brake applications,
13:07 meaning hybrids and electric vehicles
13:08 that need regen.
13:10 This doesn't make any sense in this car,
13:12 and I wonder if they did that for crash also.
13:14 - Maybe, maybe it saves a little bit of weight.
13:16 I don't know.
13:17 To me, that's dynamically the biggest let down.
13:19 It actually works fine up here, and it works--
13:21 - Oh, driving it like a maniac,
13:22 the brake pedal feels great.
13:23 - Yeah, it's just around town.
13:25 - You're smacking into the car in front of you,
13:26 you're fighting with it, you're trying to get--
13:28 - You gotta remember you're in a different kind of car.
13:30 - Yeah, it's true.
13:31 It's not, you can't come to a smooth stop in this car.
13:33 - But can you forgive it?
13:34 - Yes.
13:36 (laughing)
13:37 - Absolutely, who cares?
13:38 I mean, just go, go, go, go, listen to this motor,
13:40 feel that power.
13:41 - Let's talk about the handling for a second.
13:43 - This is everything I ever hoped
13:45 an Alfa Romeo performance sedan would be.
13:47 - I can't believe what a great sports sedan this machine is.
13:51 I am in awe.
13:52 - Remember when the fifth gen Maserati Quattroporte
13:54 came out, and we were all like,
13:56 wow, this is a Ferrari sedan.
13:59 I feel the same way about this car.
14:01 This is a Ferrari sedan.
14:02 - This is better.
14:03 I mean, they've done such a magnificent job.
14:06 Like, hats off to that engineering team.
14:09 - I'm a little afraid we gotta get back in the BMW.
14:11 What are we gonna say about that?
14:12 - Well, you know, the thing is,
14:13 it was pretty damn good on the track,
14:16 and BMW's always been a better road car than a track car.
14:19 But that means I have to stop driving this car, right?
14:21 - Yeah.
14:22 - I might have to renegotiate my contract.
14:23 I don't know if I ever really wanna stop driving this thing.
14:25 - Dynamically, I don't use this word lightly,
14:28 this car is perfect.
14:29 - No car is perfect.
14:31 - But dynamically, you're right in my face.
14:33 - Okay, thank you.
14:34 (car engine revving)
14:37 (upbeat music)
14:42 - You know, we're really hard on BMW for a lot of things.
14:53 You get in this car, and it's a really quick reminder
14:55 that the fundamentals of a car
14:58 is something BMW almost always gets right.
15:01 - Oh, absolutely.
15:01 - The ergonomics of this thing are perfect.
15:04 All of the controls are exactly where I think they would be.
15:07 The gauges are legible,
15:08 and let's not underestimate the importance
15:10 of eight memory buttons that you can program
15:12 to do whatever you want.
15:13 All of this works.
15:14 - Well, look, that's why the,
15:16 I think one of the reasons why Italians
15:17 are so obsessed with fashion is
15:18 because it allows you to gloss over
15:20 a lot of fundamental flaws.
15:22 That iDrive system in the Giulia,
15:24 I mean, that is a D-minus at best copy
15:27 of the wonderful iDrive system here in the BMW.
15:30 Also, by the way, the Giulia's a nice sedan,
15:32 but you can get this as a sedan,
15:33 you can get it as a coupe, a convertible,
15:35 there's a wagon, there's a Grand Touring One,
15:37 there's a Grand Coupe, you know,
15:38 there's just so much bandwidth to the 3 Series.
15:41 - We really should be able to get the M3 as a wagon.
15:43 - Oh, absolutely.
15:44 - But could you imagine that Alfa in a wagon?
15:47 - Like a Quadrifamaggio Alfa wagon?
15:49 Oh my God.
15:49 - Quadrif, what, four Gs?
15:51 - Quadrif, Quadrifoglio.
15:53 - Four-leaf clover.
15:53 - Four-leaf clover.
15:54 - I'm thinking about pizza, you know,
15:55 I mean, you know what I'm saying?
15:57 And you can get a lot of pizzas into an Alfa wagon,
15:59 and that would be the replacement for a CTS-V wagon
16:02 that I've been dreaming of.
16:03 Anyways, the BMW gets all that stuff just so right.
16:06 And for the first time ever,
16:08 it's not obvious that the Alfa's the better-looking car.
16:11 Normally, if it's not for Mayo, forget about it.
16:13 - Easy win.
16:14 - It's the best-looking car in the segment.
16:15 I actually think that this 3 Series is better-looking.
16:17 - And look, it's not just a good-looking car anymore, right?
16:19 The competition pack has really fundamentally changed
16:22 how good the M3 is.
16:24 - Yeah, and I think, you know,
16:25 I think BMW's, like, what they're not telling us is that
16:27 it's basically a mid-cycle refresh of the M3,
16:30 because they're not saying exactly
16:31 what is in the competition pack.
16:33 - There's a lot.
16:33 - But they fixed everything.
16:34 - Yeah, they really did.
16:35 Look, there's still some weird things.
16:36 The steering is just wonky.
16:38 It's got so much weight, even in the lightest mode,
16:41 that it honestly feels like something's wrong.
16:43 But it's missing that weird dead spot on center
16:46 where you just never knew what the car's doing.
16:48 This steering has response in it,
16:50 and the engine sounds better.
16:52 - Whoa, so much better.
16:53 - All right, and even with all the extra torque,
16:56 it can put it to the ground.
16:58 There's a lot of magic happening in the chassis tuning,
17:00 where all of a sudden,
17:01 this is no longer handling, braking power.
17:04 It's still got a little bit too much power for it,
17:06 but this car is not overwhelmed.
17:08 - Right, it's not freaking out.
17:10 And that's the other thing, too, is like, you know,
17:12 the limits very well might be higher,
17:14 but the problem with the original F80 M3 was,
17:18 you're going, you're going, you're going,
17:19 and then you just cross the limit,
17:20 and you're like, "Oh!"
17:22 And this car doesn't do that.
17:24 You get to the limits more progressively,
17:25 and it's a much better M division product.
17:29 It's a cohesive package.
17:31 They've done a great job with this car.
17:34 But I think the problem is,
17:36 BMW didn't see the sucker punch coming of that Alfa Romeo.
17:40 - No one did!
17:41 - No one did!
17:42 - Look, we bet against that Alfa Romeo.
17:43 We never thought that was gonna happen.
17:44 - That Alfa came out of left field.
17:47 It wasn't supposed to be as good as it is,
17:48 and boy, everybody now has to react to it.
17:51 - What it did is show that,
17:53 as good as this competition pack is,
17:55 the fact remains the M3 is a decade behind in dynamics.
17:59 This is a two-dimensional handler.
18:01 At the limit, it goes into understeer,
18:02 which you can nix by managing weight and power.
18:05 The Alfa, and to an even greater extent, the Cadillac,
18:08 has a dialogue with you at its limits.
18:10 It's still alive there.
18:11 - You don't have the steering washing out mid-apex
18:13 'cause you're suddenly in understeer
18:15 when you haven't been.
18:15 - You're not managing the front axle,
18:17 and you're not managing the rear axle.
18:18 You're managing the car as a whole.
18:20 And that's a recent development,
18:21 something we've only seen in the last couple of years
18:23 from car companies.
18:24 And this is behind it.
18:25 - Yeah, it's just kind of past BMW over.
18:27 - Which makes me wonder,
18:28 what do we think the lap time is gonna look like?
18:30 - This versus the Alfa?
18:31 - Right.
18:32 - You know, I think for the first time ever,
18:33 I'm gonna just not say anything and let the tape--
18:36 - No, just kidding, just kidding, just kidding.
18:37 No, no, the BMW is gonna walk all over it.
18:39 Look, it's like we talked about with the styling, right?
18:42 It's so pretty, the Alfa makes me feel so good,
18:44 but I mean, come on, this is a competition pack M3.
18:47 It's gonna leave the Alfa for dead.
18:49 - I think you're right.
18:50 So let's do that old trick where we put the Alfa
18:51 on the left, the BMW on the right,
18:52 and make Randy go set a lap in them and see what's what.
18:55 Randy!
18:56 (car engine roaring)
18:59 (car engine roaring)
19:03 (car engine roaring)
19:06 (car engine roaring)
19:09 (car engine roaring)
19:12 (car engine roaring)
19:18 (car engine roaring)
19:25 (car engine roaring)
19:39 (car engine roaring)
19:42 (car engine roaring)
19:45 (car engine roaring)
20:03 (car engine roaring)
20:06 (car engine roaring)
20:21 (car engine roaring)
20:28 (car engine roaring)
20:31 (car engine roaring)
20:40 (car engine roaring)
20:57 (car engine roaring)
21:00 - Folks, it doesn't get any closer than this.
21:09 The Giulia and M3 were evenly matched
21:11 everywhere around Chacuala.
21:13 The BMW struggled a little to put its power down,
21:16 but that cost it just four tenths of a second
21:18 in the final lap time.
21:19 You can call these laps a tie, but not this head to head.
21:23 Look, the Mercedes AMG C63 S is a fantastic
21:27 high performance luxury car.
21:29 The Cadillac ATS-V is the best handling
21:31 sports sedan on the planet.
21:33 The BMW Compact, by a mile,
21:36 it's the best of the current M3s.
21:38 But the Giulia does just about everything as well as,
21:41 or better than just about every other car here.
21:44 It's safe to say that the winner of this head to head
21:46 is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.
21:48 But just as important, it's safe to say,
21:51 Alfa Romeo is back.
21:52 (car engine revving)
21:55 - You know what I want for lunch?
21:59 - A nap?
22:01 - No, pizza quattro formaggi.
22:03 You said it now and I'm thinking,
22:04 like, but which four cheeses?
22:06 - Do you remember the pizza from last night?
22:09 - That was not any formaggi.
22:11 That was not actually pizza.
22:12 That was some sort of, you know,
22:14 you know like you can have cheese and then cheese food,
22:16 like processed cheese food?
22:18 That was processed pizza food.
22:19 - And what was wrong with those tomatoes?
22:21 They were like, they had soap on them or something?
22:22 They were just, they were tomatoes
22:25 that had been refrigerated is what they tasted like.
22:26 So they had like, they had no taste at all.
22:28 - Like the cells that exploded.
