Indigenous Australian MP Lidia Thorpe made the controversial claim of calling Queen Elizabeth II a "coloniser" during the swearing-in of the 47th parliament. While pledging allegiance to the Queen during a swearing-in ceremony before fellow MPs, MP Thorpe called the Queen a coloniser. Having prefaced her allegiance with "colonising", she was told to repeat the oath of allegiance. She said: "I sovereign, Lidia Thorpe, do solemnly and sincerely swear that I will be faithful and I bear true allegiance to the colonising her majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
