00:00 - Well, I was thrilled to find out
00:05 there was some, that I would have a submachine gun
00:08 in this film.
00:11 - Nobody messes with my family.
00:13 (upbeat music)
00:17 - Speaking on the J-Lo of it all,
00:23 she's a scene partner, but she's also a producer.
00:26 Can you talk about that experience?
00:27 - You know, it was very obvious when they said action,
00:31 and she appeared and knew everything.
00:34 And she had a couple of challenges early,
00:36 replacing, changing cast members,
00:39 and not go crazy doing in that process,
00:44 and be the lead, and be warm and inviting and smiling
00:49 and funny and beautiful at the same time.
00:52 That's a lot of stuff.
00:53 - Yeah, I remember on the first day of filming with her,
00:56 I'm like doing this, you know,
00:57 filming with her in real life.
00:59 My eyes are looking at her eyes.
01:00 It's like in real life and it's Jennifer Lopez.
01:02 And I'm like, this is wild.
01:03 And that was surreal.
01:04 But then when it was her coverage,
01:06 I was like looking through the monitor and I was like,
01:09 she is a movie star.
01:12 Like the way she looks on, she is,
01:14 she's like on another planet.
01:17 She really knows.
01:17 - I said the exact same thing watching.
01:20 And I actually feel like this might be like
01:21 her funniest performance ever.
01:23 - I agree totally.
01:24 She's so funny.
01:25 - Give me the grenade, sir.
01:26 (grunting)
01:27 I got it, I got it.
01:28 - Oh, you got it.
01:29 - I got it.
01:29 - You got it.
01:30 - I got it.
01:31 - Okay.
01:32 - I didn't, she, you felt her just being totally in it.
01:34 Like you didn't feel like she was a boss or anything.
01:37 She just was so into the role.
01:39 She worked so hard.
01:40 - Yeah.
01:41 Yeah, that girl puts in many hours into her day.
01:45 But you know, always sort of looks like
01:49 she just came out of hair and makeup,
01:51 even though even she didn't have hair.
01:54 She didn't have hair and makeup on.
01:56 And then somehow she looked like,
01:58 she just sort of like early morning,
02:00 before hair and makeup, she looks like she's had makeup.
02:02 - You look so much better than the rest of us.
02:05 - You know, she sort of looks sort of glamorous all the time
02:07 and running the show.
02:09 She's kind of like an anomaly.
02:12 I don't know.
02:13 She has energy, more energy than anyone I've ever met.
02:16 I mean, she's just, she's kind of a very impressive person.
02:19 - Is that genetics or is it like Pilates?
02:23 Can you speak to kind of that process
02:26 of working with her quite extremely close?
02:29 Like, I can't imagine how much closer
02:30 you could have gotten in that moment.
02:32 - Thankfully those things were easy release.
02:33 So every time we were like resetting or whatever,
02:36 we could take them off and just carry them around with us.
02:38 But yeah, that was, it was,
02:40 there was a lot of physical challenges to this movie,
02:43 but that was part of the fun of it for me.
02:45 I loved, I knew that this thing was gonna be heightened
02:50 and comedically, you know,
02:52 it's not a subtle sort of comedy,
02:54 although there are a lot of subtle moments.
02:56 It's these set pieces are big and broad
02:59 and over the top in a great way.
03:02 You know, she and I both sort of embraced that, you know,
03:05 for her it was an opportunity to really sort of
03:07 do something she hadn't done.
03:08 And for me too.
03:10 I think the most important thing though was,
03:12 does the audience,
03:13 are they gonna believe that we are meant to be together
03:17 and should be together?
03:18 Because if we don't have that, the movie's not gonna work.
03:20 So we really started there and then grew from that.
03:25 - The cast talked about that because we were concerned
03:28 because you think that the whole movie rides
03:29 on if there's a chemistry between them.
03:31 - You're always thinking,
03:32 oh, he would never end up with her.
03:33 - Yeah, 'cause yeah, a lot of movies-
03:34 - He's too good for her.
03:34 - Yeah, it was the opposite of that.
03:36 It was like, is that the only person they could get?
03:39 Oh, that's funny.
03:40 (laughing)
03:40 All right, fine.
03:42 - Can you talk about working with her
03:43 in these dual roles on the project?
03:46 - Yeah, she works really, really hard.
03:49 She works really, really hard and she's, I mean, come on.
03:54 I was just happy to be there.
03:57 I don't have any complaints.
03:58 She's great.
04:00 It was incredible.
04:01 - One of the things that really stuck out to me
04:02 while watching this movie was just how long
04:05 you all spent in that pool.
04:07 What was it like kind of spending weeks
04:09 with this ensemble of people in a pool, basically?
04:13 - To the pool, now!
04:15 - Well, people were great.
04:16 - Yeah, the people were amazing.
04:17 - It's needed first.
04:19 'Cause you're in the Caribbean, it was an infinity pool,
04:22 so you're looking out at the ocean.
04:24 But the pool itself, they stopped filtering it.
04:28 And there's like two dozen people in there
04:30 for like two weeks, the sunscreen and memories.
04:35 Memories just floating on the surface.
04:40 I had just very light clothing,
04:42 but you had like these layers of things in the hat.
04:47 - You guys were in a pool for a really long time.
04:49 I was stressed on your behalf.
04:51 Can you speak about the experience?
04:53 I'm assuming it was days on end of being in that pool.
04:56 - Thank you for feeling our pain.
04:58 - Go ahead, Darcy.
05:00 - I am, no, I mean, it was, you know,
05:03 yes, it was days and weeks on end.
05:05 It was, we were very aware of like the privilege
05:08 of where we were and that it's this beautiful location
05:11 and all that stuff, but we were-
05:13 - We were soaked.
05:14 - We were soggy.
05:16 We were soggy.
05:17 - I remember one time when we had a lot of days to spare,
05:20 a lot of time we were in the pool and Darcy and Callie
05:25 and I said, I said, okay, well,
05:27 there's three cameras going here.
05:29 It was a tutorial.
05:30 Three cameras going and they're moving.
05:32 And if you want to be in this movie,
05:34 you got to know where those cameras are.
05:36 - We did get like a full, it was great.
05:37 We got like a really great, you know,
05:39 sort of like a cinematographer lesson from Cheech
05:43 while we're sitting in wedding clothes in the pool
05:45 on like, you know, day 18 or whatever.
05:47 - So like a normal day at work.
05:49 - Yeah, exactly.
05:50 - Yeah, exactly.
05:51 - You get it.
05:52 - Sometimes it was cold.
05:53 Sometimes we weren't sure, you know,
05:55 how long people had been in the water.
05:58 And, but you know, they are such troopers.
06:00 This, this bunch of actors and even the extras
06:03 who were from the Dominican Republic,
06:05 who were in the pool for considerable time.
06:09 They, they, they were very,
06:12 they, they, they were very good about it.
06:14 They didn't, you know, there was no real complaints
06:16 and people really just did their best in the show.
06:19 I actually think that that scene
06:21 really sets the show apart from,
06:23 from other things that I've seen.
06:24 It's quite a special moment that all these, you know,
06:27 wedding guests all decked out, you know,
06:30 just there stuck in the pool.
06:32 - We did spend weeks in the pool together in clothes.
06:37 So that got interesting in moments for sure.
06:42 I think Coolidge called it earlier today, a stew.
06:47 It was a bit of a stew by the end of it.
06:50 But I mean, we were all such great friends
06:52 and got along so well
06:53 that we kept each other pretty entertained.
06:55 And also we're in an infinity pool,
06:57 surrounded by the ocean where there's literal whales
07:00 jumping out of the ocean.
07:01 So we were okay.
07:03 - I've been looking forward to this moment
07:04 ever since baby Tommy was cut out of my abdomen.
07:07 [upbeat music]
07:11 - Can you speak to your chemistry
07:13 and your time working with Miss Coolidge on this?
07:16 - What I was like, my job, like, you know,
07:19 my actor homework was to adore my wife.
07:22 And I, so I didn't really have to act.
07:24 So I just, you know, and to take care of her.
07:26 So I was just, that's what I did.
07:28 I got to adore working with her.
07:30 And that was a very simple little objective.
07:34 And so I didn't, that was it.
07:36 I was like, I got to adore.
07:37 And my character doesn't have drama.
07:39 He sort of was like, well, okay.
07:41 So we have pirates.
07:42 That's a, well, we'll adapt as long as everyone's safe.
07:45 - White Lotus, I'm a huge fan like everybody else was.
07:48 So between the finale that just happened
07:51 and now your role in this,
07:53 I feel like you're basically like an action star.
07:56 - Nobody messes with my family.
07:58 - Well, I was thrilled to find out there was some,
08:06 that I would have a submachine gun.
08:10 In this film, even though that, you know,
08:13 I knew it was a rom-com and everything.
08:14 I loved that it had this, had this shootout scene.
08:18 And I have to tell you, there was many steps of,
08:23 for, it was like, it was like two solid months
08:27 of gun lessons every day after work.
08:30 I feel like they kind of knew who I am
08:31 and they wanted to make sure I didn't mess up.
08:35 'Cause I have that, I guess I looked like I would mess up
08:38 or something.
08:39 So anyway, but there was many lessons.
08:40 And you know, it all paid off.
08:41 - Can you speak to what it was like, you know,
08:43 working with all of these like awesome, great,
08:45 you know, legends on this cast?
08:47 - Yeah, I could talk to you for hours and hours
08:50 and hours on end.
08:51 I mean, really and truly,
08:53 you're gonna have to probably stop me
08:54 because it was the best group of people.
08:59 The most wonderful people.
09:01 If you're wondering if Coolidge is as wonderful
09:05 as you hope she is, she is and more.
09:07 And Darcy Carden is a friend of mine now and incredible.
09:12 And Steve Coulter is one of the funniest people I've ever,
09:17 and sweetest people I've ever worked with.
09:19 And Cheech is the best.
09:22 And I mean, really, and Selena Tan is so lovely
09:27 and wonderful and so funny.
09:29 How I got in here, I don't know.
09:32 Like, I don't know, but I'm just, I'm here.
09:36 - You know, I went into the movie.
09:37 I didn't even really check who was gonna be in the movie.
09:40 I was in the makeup room quite early on in the studio.
09:44 And I walked, you know, I walked back to my room
09:47 and I saw that they had these, you know,
09:49 headshots of everybody who's gonna be in the movie.
09:51 I sent it to my friends in Singapore and they said,
09:53 "Lenny Kravitz is in the movie.
09:54 You didn't tell us Lenny Kravitz."
09:56 And I was like, "Lenny, where, where?"
09:58 And then I saw all these people
09:59 and they are such amazing people.
10:02 - Looks like he's leading a porn safari.
10:04 - Oops, he forgot to button his shirt all the way up.
10:06 - Great actors, so fun comedically,
10:09 but warm and loving, you know,
10:11 wonderful people to hang out with
10:14 outside of the shoot as well.
10:15 We really became quite a tight family.
10:18 I think that was great.
10:19 - I, as soon as I read it, I couldn't say yes fast enough.
10:23 It just was like, I was thinking about
10:25 what all those scenes would look like and be like,
10:27 and how it would be to film them.
10:28 And I was very, very excited.
10:30 So thanks, thank you.
10:31 - I was thrilled to get a job, you know, right then,
10:34 because it was during COVID.
10:36 - Yeah, it was really deep.
10:36 - During the pandemic.
10:37 Oh, in the Dominican Republic and with Jennifer Lopez
10:40 and, okay, we can do this, you know.
10:43 - Yeah, that's amazing.
10:45 - It was a little too dreamy for words.
10:46 It was kind of like a vacation.
10:48 (dramatic music)
10:51 - You okay?
10:52 - Yeah, just, you know, I looked over there
10:54 and I saw the blood and, you know,
10:56 I think I saw some brain.
10:57 Was that brain stuff?
10:58 - Well, you know what, maybe we should,
10:59 let's just step away from the scene.
11:01 (dramatic music)
