Ruben Dias on Leipzig and Rodri's Manchester City return in UEFA Champions League clash
Transcript
00:00 won against them before. It's because we really did a good job and that's what we need to do again.
00:05 Thank you. Good luck tomorrow.
00:07 Thank you.
00:09 Hi, Ruben. Obviously, the defeat at the weekend was quite a surprising one to be outside looking in.
00:18 How have you players reflected on that and what did you say to each other after the game on Saturday?
00:26 Well, it's never a good day when we don't win. But I guess that's just exactly the standard
00:36 we have at this club and that we have everyone with their own self and obviously with our teammates.
00:42 Like I said, it's always an intense moment when it happens and I think that's just the way it
00:53 should be. Obviously, we don't lose our happiness and we don't lose our enthusiasm coming back to
00:58 work and just looking forward for what's to come. But it's good that we feel it that way and that
01:05 we hate it so much because in the end that's what makes us keep on winning when we have to.
01:11 Are you able to just give us a little bit of an insight into the dressing room when there is a
01:15 bad day? Is it someone like you that's taking the lead and talking to people or is it a bit of a
01:22 free-for-all? Well, I wouldn't say there's... It depends on the moment, it depends on the game,
01:32 it depends on how things go. Sometimes it can be one or two, sometimes it can be just one,
01:38 sometimes it can be three or four or five, sometimes it can be absolutely no one because
01:43 we all know. But in the end it's just like in every other situation when there's a tough moment
01:51 to take in and just move forward. Sometimes it's through words, sometimes it's through silence.
01:56 Every moment requires a certain behaviour that only on the moment you'll know how to deal with it.
02:05 Obviously, we've got a lot of winners in our team and we know how to deal with it.
02:16 Martin, can you hear me okay?
02:23 Sorry Martin, carry on. Sorry, that was my fault.
02:32 Ruben, it's a big day tomorrow for Josco Gavardiale going back to his old club.
02:40 How do you feel he's settled in? Well, I think he's settling in very good.
02:46 He's a player with tremendous quality. That's easy to see and I think more than that is
02:56 the fact that he really wants to win and obviously he's one more piece to join to the party.
03:07 But yeah, I would say he's settling in very well. Good, easy-going guy. Easy person to
03:13 communicate off the pitch, on the pitch and obviously individual qualities aside,
03:21 that's one big quality to have, to have that easy communication, especially on the pitch.
03:26 Thanks Ruben.
03:30 Diamondstone? Hi Ruben. Over the last few days, there's been a lot of talk about
03:38 VAR for obvious reasons. I'm just wondering as a player, how the arrival of VAR has
03:48 changed the game for you and whether as players you actually trust the system?
03:58 Well, I think overall VAR has changed the game
04:01 in a big way, especially the more we go further back in time,
04:09 the more you see the changes. But trying to look at it now in terms of how reliable it can be,
04:20 I think if you go on overall, most certainly it has helped to keep the truth up. Now,
04:29 there are definitely moments and just recently we've probably seen some in which it's difficult
04:34 to accept it just because you expect that there's no failure, but it is what it is.
04:40 Well, that's essentially what I have to say. Obviously, it's not easy to accept when a
04:47 decision that, and I'm not even talking about it going your way or not, I'm talking as an outsider
04:53 or trying to talk as an outsider. It's difficult to see when a clear decision might not have been
04:59 taken in the right way, but I guess that's also a gap we have to consider in terms of the full
05:08 reliability of it.
05:10 Gideon?
05:16 Hi, Ruben. I was just wondering whether, having won the European title last season,
05:25 do you feel differently as a team or as players when you're going abroad or even travelling
05:30 domestically? Do you feel there's an extra spring in your step and do you feel that
05:34 this puts a bit of a target on your back that other teams are keen to shoot down?
05:41 Well, I think that we've had that target before. We still have it now. So, to come into this club
05:49 is to know that you will always have that target because you're one of the best teams in the world
05:54 and everyone wants to win against the best. But obviously, in terms of having that feeling going
06:01 everywhere we go, obviously we feel that the club is growing, people are joining and that's
06:08 something beautiful to see and to be able to be a part of. But, like anything else, it's to keep
06:16 growing and obviously to make sure we don't forget to enjoy the ride while we're on it.
06:27 Paul?
06:35 Hi Ruben, you were voted into the leadership group again by your team-mates a couple of weeks ago.
06:41 How much of a compliment is that for you and what kind of responsibilities does that bring
06:47 that you're part of that leadership group again?
06:48 Well, obviously it's a special moment for whoever's selected. It's obviously a moment of
06:59 trust from your colleagues, from everyone that votes, obviously the staff as well.
07:05 But yeah, it's an honour to be one of the captains of our team and obviously,
07:14 as big as it is an honour, also it is the responsibility. But when you've taken every
07:25 day with the same responsibility, being one of the captains or not, everything gets easier.
07:30 And I've always tried to conduct myself, just for my state of mind, I've always tried to conduct
07:37 myself in that way because it's just the way I believe a player should be like.
07:41 Finish with Rob, if there are no more hands.
07:46 Hi Ruben, you're obviously coming off the back of a very, very successful season,
07:53 a historic season. You've got players in the group who have won an awful lot of trophies.
07:57 Do you still see the same hunger in the group, within the squad, to go and do it again and
08:01 try and recreate the treble or reclaim the Champions League?
08:05 Yeah, most definitely. More beautiful than do it once is to do it twice.
08:12 And more beautiful than winning three Premier Leagues in a row is to win four.
08:20 And also more beautiful than winning one Champions League is to win two in a row.
08:25 And the same goes to the FA Cup. So the motivation couldn't be any higher.
08:31 And obviously we know and are aware that we've done something very special.
08:35 But we're all very young and very hungry as well. So we'll make the math when it's the time to make
08:44 the math. Thank you guys, we'll leave it there. The manager will join us soon.
08:49 Thank you guys.
08:50 Thank you.
