00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Cornell.
00:08 It's been a while since we've had some CM Punk based wrestling news, isn't it?
00:13 Too long I say.
00:14 So let's bring him up again.
00:15 Ever since he was released from AEW, fans have been wondering whether he'd ping pong
00:18 right back to WWE again, with opinions divided on the "he'd do business" argument and
00:23 the "WWE released him on his wedding day" argument.
00:26 Is there too much bad blood there to be forgotten about?
00:29 Seemingly more beef than Punk had with The Elite and Jack Perry and we saw how that one
00:33 went.
00:34 But there may be some clues as to Punk's future, and it comes directly from WWE Raw.
00:38 Seth Rollins has been vocal in the past about his dislike of CM Punk, even calling him a
00:42 cancer in an interview, but could the very same person be teasing a feud with Punk in
00:46 the near future?
00:47 On Raw last night, Seth Rollins was talking to Michael Cole in the ring, where Cole mentioned
00:51 that Rollins had been called many things over the years.
00:53 Architect, visionary, but also puppeteer, manipulator, but this time, he's the puppet.
00:59 Eagle-eyed viewers, or I guess in this case, eagle-eared listeners, noted that this little
01:03 line shared some similarities with a certain iconic CM Punk promo from Ring of Honor back
01:07 in 2005, where Punk said "This is my stage, this is my theatre, you are my puppets, and
01:13 I pulled those marionette strings."
01:15 Now that might seem a little tenuous, sure, there's a link about puppets, but is that
01:20 really all?
01:21 Well, on last week's episode of Raw, Seth Rollins also just so happened to remark that
01:25 his 100% makes him "the best in the world".
01:29 Coincidence?
01:30 Maybe.
01:31 But also, two weeks in a row of noticeable similarities with things related to CM Punk?
01:36 It could be something there.
01:38 And just to add further fuel to this fire, Survivor Series this year is in Chicago.
01:42 Look, I'm not saying it's confirmed or anything, but there's something there, right?
01:46 Now play this clip back when it either does or does not happen and you can call me a genius/idiot
01:51 based on the outcome.
01:52 Sean Ross Sapp on the Fightful Raw post-show stream said that he's going to exhaust his
01:55 sources this week and will have an update regarding CM Punk and WWE soon, which will
02:00 prove that I'm a genius/idiot depending.
02:02 Elsewhere on Raw, there were a couple of advertised matches that didn't end up happening.
02:07 Going into this week's episode, Jey Uso vs Damian Priest and Becky Lynch vs Tegan
02:10 Knox for the NXT Women's Championship were both slated to be on the show, but neither
02:14 happened for seemingly different reasons.
02:17 Fightful Selects reported that Becky Lynch had not been cleared to compete.
02:20 At NXT No Mercy, it was reported that Becky sustained a laceration that required 11 stitches,
02:25 and she reportedly hasn't been cleared since then, with that injury ongoing.
02:29 Which is yet more rough luck for Tegan Knox, who I think has a shout for unluckiest wrestler
02:34 ever.
02:35 Meanwhile, Jey Uso vs Damian Priest was pulled from advertising for the show beforehand,
02:39 which seems to have just been creative changing, as both Jey and Priest were on Raw but in
02:43 a different capacity.
02:44 More of those last minute changes, eh?
02:51 I know what Tempest's thinking.
03:00 He's thinking he wishes his book took a deep dive into some of wrestling's biggest
03:03 controversies, giving insight into the murkier side of the sport we know and love.
03:07 I know that look in Pete's eyes.
03:09 He's keen to know more about the ongoing controversy of unionization in wrestling,
03:14 and his right eye is even more keen to delve into the issues that have shaped the modern
03:18 pro-wrestling landscape.
03:21 And Tempest is really staring at me.
03:23 Wait, maybe he's wishing his book critiqued wrestling's institutions and was more of
03:27 a testament to those who fight not just inside the ring, but outside the ring too.
03:31 Huh.
03:32 I wish I could read.
03:36 Gentlemen!
03:37 Guard?
03:38 What?
03:39 No, guys.
03:40 It's me, Dave Bradshaw, the voice of British wrestling and, nay, the world.
03:46 I've been listening to your internal monologues, and I think I have the answer to all your
03:52 prayers.
03:53 I told you he was guard.
03:56 Get WrestleTalk's brand new book Wrestling Unmasked straight from the pages of WrestleTalk

04:01 Wrestling Unmasked is a must-read for all wrestling fans.
04:04 Head on over to Amazon to pick up your copy now by clicking on the link in the video description
04:08 below and prepare for your understanding of the wrestling world to be turned upside down.
04:14 Luke, your book is upside down.
04:21 Never mind.
04:22 My crikey, that's so interesting.
04:25 Oh, I'm very sorry.
04:28 Yes, by the book.
04:31 Anyway, it's now time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the "we finally found
04:35 that Johnny Gargano toy down the back of the sofa" edition of Monday Night Raw… in
04:40 about 5 minutes.
04:41 The show was supposed to open with Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler in the first of our "advertise
04:45 things that didn't happen", but instead they just brawled to the ring.
04:48 Raquel Rodriguez joined the fun, as did Rhea Ripley who made her return to lay out some
04:52 security guards.
04:53 It was a fun and chaotic way to open the show, and it set up a nice federal four-way for
04:56 down the line.
04:57 However, it wasn't announced for Fastlane, so one would presume this will happen on Raw
05:00 in the next few weeks.
05:01 Rhea stayed in the ring to transition into our next talking segment, and there are a
05:05 lot of those on this show, where she wanted to address the issues within Judgement Day.
05:10 Well, it's Groundhog Day… again.
05:14 Ripley blamed Damian Priest for the team falling apart, and for Dom Dom losing his title, and
05:20 told Dom that she's got him a rematch for the North American Championship on NXT, and
05:24 if he doesn't win this time, he shouldn't even consider coming home to Mommy.
05:30 Never have the stakes been higher in any match in WWE history.
05:34 WWE had also advertised Jey vs. Priest for this show, but announced in this segment that
05:38 Priest wasn't medically cleared and couldn't compete, so that's our second advertised
05:42 thing on this show that was cancelled.
05:44 Jey Uso came out to flirt with Rhea Ripley and got into a brawl with Judgement Day alongside
05:48 Cody Rhodes who came down to even the odds, and Adam Pearce announced that Finn and Priest
05:52 will defend the tag titles against Jey and Cody at Fastlane.
05:56 At least it isn't Kevin and Sami again, I guess.
05:59 Later in the show, J.D. McDonough suggested that they need to drive a wedge between Kev,
06:03 Sami, Cody and Jey.
06:04 I don't think that's going to be a particularly difficult task, mate.
06:08 WWE made a big deal out of Jade Cargill's signing, which they should do.
06:12 It is a big deal.
06:13 And over 20 minutes since the show began, we got our first wrestling match.
06:19 A fun little 10 man tag with Imperium beating Alpha Academy, which saw Giovanni Vinci play
06:24 the difference maker as he saved Kaiser from getting an avalanche fall away slam from Otis
06:29 to get the win.
06:30 We got a recap of Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton's excellent No Mercy match, and they showed
06:34 the injury she picked up in said excellent match, as well as announcing that the announced
06:39 Tegan vs. Becky match was also not happening.
06:42 That's three now, everyone.
06:44 The weirder thing here is that they said Becky vs. Tegan will happen at some point, but that
06:49 means Lynch will be on NXT tonight to look for her next challenger.
06:53 It's Tegan Nox.
06:55 She's the next challenger.
06:57 You just told us that.
06:59 Bronson Reed squashed Cedric Alexander and Drew McIntyre told Adam Pearce that he didn't
07:03 want to do the pre-announced Miz TV segment.
07:05 That's four for four, everyone.
07:07 All four things announced for this show did not happen.
07:11 I think that's a new record.
07:13 Thankfully, WWE instead gave us a much bigger match that wasn't pre-announced.
07:19 As Tommaso Ciampa and Gunther's contract signing for Fastlane was instead moved to
07:22 Raw's main event.
07:24 It was a great promo from Ciampa, and an even better one from Gunther.
07:28 And after AEW's long four hour show on Sunday with a couple of matches that could have been
07:34 on TV, I quite like WWE's method of having big matches happen on Raw, even if the ad
07:39 flows do ruin the flow of them.
07:42 Xavier Woods picked up a win over Ivar in a match that didn't quite live up to the
07:45 expectations set by the Kofi match two weeks ago, but it also wasn't given the time to
07:50 get over.
07:51 More on that later.
07:52 But even though Woods won, Ivar killed both Xavier and Kofi after the match and hit the
07:56 moonsault on both of them.
07:57 So who's the real winner?
08:00 It's Xavier Woods.
08:02 He's the real winner.
08:03 Do you know how good WWE's video department is?
08:06 I've said this time and time again, they are the best in the world.
08:10 And here's a great example of why.
08:12 With only pre-existing footage, they made the Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura feud
08:17 look great.
08:18 The segments have been broadly average at best, but this video made it feel like the
08:23 biggest thing on Raw.
08:25 So kudos, lads.
08:26 Seth came out for a promo with Michael Cole where he talked about his love of pro wrestling.
08:30 Nakamura cut a video promo, but it was just a distraction so he could attack him from
08:34 behind.
08:35 He laid out Seth and counted to ten, but Rollins kept getting back up.
08:38 Eventually Nakamura kept him down for the ten and held aloft the title.
08:42 A simple and effective go-home segment for a cold as balls feud.
08:47 Tegan Nox and Natalya are friends now - which is a good thing as she stopped distractions
08:51 from Piper Niven so Nox could pin Chelsea Green in just over two minutes.
08:55 Literally just over two minutes.
08:57 Five seconds over two minutes in fact.
08:59 And guess what?
09:01 The crowd didn't care and why should they?
09:03 You can't get someone over in two minutes competitive matches.
09:08 This isn't helping Nox in any way shape or form.
09:11 And she and Nattie hugged after the match so I guess they're your new contenders for
09:14 the women's tag titles that no one really cares about.
09:17 This was also the only women's match on the show.
09:21 Do better WWE.
09:23 Drew came out for a promo but was interrupted by The Miz so you may as well have done MizTV.
09:28 And it led to a match where Drew beat Miz in his suit by throwing him into an exposed
09:31 turnbuckle.
09:32 I love Drew in this role and I have no opinion on The Miz acting like a child pretending to
09:37 barf.
09:38 I think that match went longer than the Tegan Nox one did.
09:41 LOL.
09:42 Not Cathy Kelly interviewed Trick Williams about his North American Championship win
09:45 which was also used to announce that all of Judgment Day will be on NXT tonight.
09:50 Judgment Day and Becky Lynch on NXT?
09:53 Is it TV rights negotiation season by any chance?
09:56 And the work doesn't stop for Judgment Day there as Cody Rhodes announced they'll
09:59 also be on Smackdown as will Cody and Jey.
10:03 Brand split.
10:04 LOL.
10:05 The main event saw Ciampa and Gunther have a 20 minute banger which the crowd didn't
10:09 care about much early doors instead doing fireflies with their phone torches.
10:14 But the action was so good that they did get into the near falls.
10:17 Gunther put Ciampa away with the sleeper, and then Johnny Gargano made the save from
10:21 Ciampa being beaten down by Imperium and they set up to do the meat in the middle kick,
10:25 but the broadcast ended and we missed it.
10:27 Cool.
10:28 The main event and Gargano's return even without The Pop saved this episode.
10:33 It's difficult to know wrestling on a 3 hour wrestling show is unforgivable in my
10:37 eyes, but most of the segments were pretty good.
10:39 It's your average 3 out of 5 show.
10:41 Now it's Fastlane this weekend so it's time for you to check out our predictions
10:45 for the show in just 3 words or less, and I'm going to read this fabulous book with
10:50 British wrestling legend Kendo Nagasaki.
10:53 I don't know if you're featured in this.
10:56 You might be.
10:57 I'm trying to read.
10:59 Are you reading?
11:01 I don't know if you're in the book, Ken!
11:03 (upbeat music)
