00:00 It is said that it is possible for different sectors to join forces to help our fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
00:09 The details of this live report are from Sandra Aguinaldo.
00:12 Sandra?
00:13 Yes, Connie and Rafi, the SCAM is doing a civilian supply mission
00:20 in the BRP Sierra Madre of different NGOs,
00:23 with fishermen, artists, church leaders, and entrepreneurs.
00:27 They are now working with the Philippine Coast Guard
00:30 and they believe that the National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea needs ghost signals.
00:36 But they also believe that because it is owned by the Philippines,
00:40 Filipinos should be able to go there.
00:43 Their target is to do this in December, during Christmas,
00:48 and they will also provide assistance to fishermen who are hoping for the West Philippine Sea,
00:53 like those based in Zambales, Palawan, Mindoro, and Matanga.
00:57 They will hold a Christmas donation drive and there will be a musical event,
01:01 which they call the Christmas gift concert, to give to the fishermen.
01:06 They are not asking for donations.
01:09 Some of their suggestions are rice, sugar, coffee, long sleeve shirts that fishermen use,
01:14 and other items that fishermen use like flashlights, gasoline, and other fishing equipment.
01:21 They also have four drop-off points in Quezon City and Makati.
01:27 Let's hear from the last one, Connie Raffey.
01:30 Yes, Sandra, our project is really beautiful.
01:33 It's a big help for our fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
01:37 But of course, many are asking, is this a one-time project,
01:42 a kind of downfall, or will it continue?
01:47 So now, Connie, their objective is to give a good Christmas to the fishermen and our soldiers stationed in BRP Sierra Madre.
01:59 But they can also see that if this will be a success, they want to continue this so that the help to the fishermen will continue.
02:09 Sandra, what is the mechanism of this?
02:11 Of course, they will give the help to the Coast Guard or Navy.
02:16 Or there is a possibility that they will reach the area in coordination with the Coast Guard.
02:22 Yes, that's right Raffey.
02:24 I know they said that they have already met with the Philippine Coast Guard,
02:27 even though they haven't received a go signal.
02:32 But what they're saying is that they know that,
02:36 first of all, Raffey, they know that they will be sent to the area.
02:40 They also know that there are security concerns, especially if you will go to BRP Sierra Madre.
02:46 They know that they need a go signal, but at the same time,
02:51 their assertion is that the Filipinos should be able to go there because their battle cry,
02:57 Raffey, in this project is our this.
03:00 They're saying that this area is for the Filipinos.
03:04 If the Filipinos are more unlikely to be moved by the China Coast Guard, that's their theory.
03:11 Yes Raffey, they're saying that because they're Filipinos,
03:17 they should not be concerned about their own going there.
03:21 The soldiers in BRP Sierra Madre should be happy.
03:25 Thank you very much, Sandra Aguinaldo.
