00:00:41 What a show we have in store for you.
00:00:43 Eight games, bags of goals, upsets, and controversies
00:00:47 are plenty.
00:00:48 Two top flight titans in the studio,
00:00:50 Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
00:00:52 So OK, I said titans.
00:00:55 We begin at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium,
00:00:57 which wasn't even built the last time Spurs beat Liverpool
00:01:00 in the league back in 2017.
00:01:02 Your commentator, Steve Wilson.
00:01:06 Spurs' recent record against Liverpool
00:01:08 is so poor that they've won just one of the last 23 meetings.
00:01:13 But optimism has turned to excitement here and at Anfield.
00:01:17 Spurs, like Liverpool, are unbeaten.
00:01:20 James Madison's OK after picking up a knock for Tottenham
00:01:23 against Arsenal.
00:01:24 And Anj Pasterkoglu makes just one change.
00:01:26 Richarlison in for the injured Brendan Johnson.
00:01:29 Yves Bissouma is the only one of this 11
00:01:32 who started this fixture last November.
00:01:35 Liverpool also make one change to their last league game.
00:01:38 That is Gatpo for Nunez.
00:01:40 Trent Alexander-Arnold is on their bench
00:01:42 after missing four with a hamstring injury.
00:01:44 So for now, Joe Gomez continues at right back.
00:01:49 It's a pacey end-to-end start to the game.
00:01:53 Van Dijk, well-aimed.
00:01:55 Salah.
00:01:56 Salah, this is dangerous.
00:02:01 Luis Diaz came and attacked it.
00:02:03 Pedro Poro was there too.
00:02:06 Really good movement from Luis Diaz.
00:02:08 Poro read it just in time.
00:02:10 Bissouma just in to Sarr, did well.
00:02:16 Madison to Richarlison.
00:02:19 Kulishevsky's at the back post!
00:02:23 Oh, goodness me.
00:02:24 Richarlison put it into a brilliant position.
00:02:30 Dejan Kulishevsky didn't quite anticipate it,
00:02:33 otherwise it would have been the easiest of tap-ins.
00:02:36 Really good play here by Richarlison.
00:02:39 And if Kulishevsky had managed to step in front of Andrew Robertson,
00:02:42 it would have been 1-0.
00:02:44 And that's it.
00:02:47 Gomez.
00:02:48 Neatly done, saw the sign.
00:02:51 That's in towards Luis Diaz, he'll reach it.
00:02:56 Andrew Robertson's made a good run forward.
00:03:00 Cody Gatpo, big chance, saved by Vicaria.
00:03:02 Robertson, great save!
00:03:05 Terrific double save by Guillermo Vicaria.
00:03:08 Now Robertson doesn't score too many.
00:03:12 Got one for Liverpool at Molineux the other week,
00:03:14 and he lashed this, he must have thought it stood a chance.
00:03:17 But Vicaria, having saved from Gatpo, back on his feet.
00:03:21 It's nicked by Curtis Jones.
00:03:27 The referee is going to get a card out here for Curtis Jones.
00:03:31 Let's have a look, Curtis Jones here into Bissouma.
00:03:34 Ooh, it's over the top of the ball.
00:03:36 That doesn't look good.
00:03:39 Curtis Jones might be in trouble here.
00:03:42 When Simon Hooper sees that, and he is being asked to go and look at it.
00:03:46 Jones comes through, only a glancing touch on the ball,
00:03:52 a very heavy one into Bissouma, who is still down and injured.
00:03:56 And Curtis Jones may not survive this review.
00:04:03 It's a red card for Liverpool's Curtis Jones.
00:04:06 25 minutes played, and for the third time this season Liverpool have a man sent off.
00:04:14 And Curtis Jones is dismissed.
00:04:19 Here's Ossala, beautifully through to Luis Diaz,
00:04:31 Porro is with him, Diaz! Liverpool in front!
00:04:34 Offside flags going up, they're not in front.
00:04:37 Adrian Holmes with the offside flag.
00:04:40 Salah gave Van der Ven a real problem here.
00:04:44 That doesn't look offside to me.
00:04:46 This will be checked.
00:04:48 Salah through to Luis Diaz, Adrian Holmes put his flag up.
00:04:52 And the goal is disallowed.
00:04:59 Spurs haven't beaten Liverpool for six years,
00:05:04 since a 4-1 win when they were playing at Wembley.
00:05:06 They've never beaten Liverpool here.
00:05:09 They have a great chance now with a man advantage.
00:05:12 And such a lot of the game still to play.
00:05:14 Oh, lovely ball, Maddison, Richarlison, Son won that!
00:05:19 Well, Son pretty much always scores against Liverpool.
00:05:23 Five in his last six Premier League appearances against them now.
00:05:27 Richarlison is clearly onside.
00:05:31 And moments after Liverpool thought they'd taken the lead,
00:05:35 Liverpool fall behind on a plate for Son from Richarlison.
00:05:40 And Son Heung-min has his sixth goal of the season.
00:05:45 A doggy.
00:05:54 Richarlison into a doggy, and Son Heung-min.
00:05:57 And Kulisavski, and Richarlison off the post!
00:06:02 How close were Tottenham to doubling their lead here?
00:06:07 A doggy into Son, Kulisavski to Richarlison.
00:06:11 I was talking this week about him, he was a boyhood Liverpool fan in Melbourne.
00:06:21 Pictures of Kenny Dalglish and the Fonz on his wall, apparently.
00:06:25 It's a shot this far.
00:06:30 Virgil van Dijk, and it's Gappo if he can turn, and he can!
00:06:33 And he scores!
00:06:35 And Liverpool are level in first-half stoppage time.
00:06:40 At some cost to Cody Gappo, he's equalised.
00:06:44 It's a great ball in for Virgil van Dijk, who dominated that back post.
00:06:49 Gappo on the turn, and as he hits it, not much that Di Cario could do about it.
00:06:54 It's Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool.
00:06:56 And Luiz Tiaz caught on his heels.
00:07:05 Sarr, Maddison, Son...
00:07:07 ..and van Dijk.
00:07:09 And given away to Richarlison.
00:07:12 He could shut that if he changed Maddison, actually.
00:07:17 Ramire.
00:07:18 Maddison, can he...
00:07:31 Look for goal! Great save.
00:07:33 Alisson with a stunning stop for Liverpool.
00:07:39 This look goal-bound from James Maddison.
00:07:42 That is a wonderful save.
00:07:45 Alisson...
00:07:46 Finding Jota, he's a little bit fortunate, that fell to Sobeslijd,
00:07:50 but he couldn't find Luiz Tiaz.
00:07:52 Pedro Toro to Cristian Romero.
00:07:54 And now Maddison, who can advance.
00:07:57 And Udoge, and Son!
00:08:00 Alisson again.
00:08:02 Really well hit by Son.
00:08:05 Another terrific stop by Liverpool's goalkeeper.
00:08:09 That's two in the first six minutes of the second half for Maddison.
00:08:13 Ramire.
00:08:14 And deflecting off Maddison. Robertson's there.
00:08:17 Andrew Robertson.
00:08:19 Udoge, was he tripped by Jota?
00:08:29 Card's coming out here.
00:08:31 Diogo Jota into the blue.
00:08:33 That's what Jota's got to do.
00:08:42 That's what Jota was booked for.
00:08:45 Kulishevski.
00:08:50 Gomez with a header, Sobeslijd.
00:08:57 Diogo Jota turning into trouble.
00:09:05 Now he's made that challenge now.
00:09:07 Jota is going to be in trouble here.
00:09:11 And Liverpool are going to be reduced to nine men.
00:09:15 Diogo Jota is sent off.
00:09:18 Two quick-fire yellow cards.
00:09:22 90 seconds, I think, between the two cards.
00:09:26 And Liverpool have nine men left on the pitch.
00:09:30 Willy went stretching for it here. Udoge's getting away from him.
00:09:35 And I'm not sure he can have much complaints about the second yellow.
00:09:39 I don't know how much contact there was with his first.
00:09:42 He might protest about that.
00:09:44 Diogo Jota is sent off.
00:09:47 Spurs have scored two or more in each of their last seven Premier League matches.
00:09:55 Maddison, Solomon.
00:10:00 Sar, Dissouma.
00:10:04 Kulishevski.
00:10:08 Come on, Diffekir!
00:10:10 And then we can take a defence against James Maddison,
00:10:13 find Solomon.
00:10:15 A little deflection, Richarlison waved a foot at it.
00:10:18 Substitution for Liverpool, replacing number 10, Alexis Mbappe.
00:10:25 Richarlison got a touch on that.
00:10:27 Roberts being chased by Wataru Endo.
00:10:32 Davis, Roberts, Solomon.
00:10:36 Manuel Solomon.
00:10:38 This looks a promising Spurs attack.
00:10:41 Dejan Kulishevski here.
00:10:43 Cristian Romero.
00:10:48 Pedro Toro.
00:10:52 Oh, and it's an own goal!
00:10:55 Joel Matip into his own net!
00:10:58 Can you believe it?
00:11:00 Tied number one again.
00:11:03 The final twist.
00:11:05 Victory for Tottenham.
00:11:08 Despair for nine men, Liverpool.
00:11:11 And for Joel Matip in particular.
00:11:15 With what may well be virtually the last kick of the game.
00:11:20 What a way to win.
00:11:22 What a way to lose.
00:11:24 Poor, poor Joel Matip.
00:11:27 We had to cope with a fair few things
00:11:30 and had to show a different side of our game today.
00:11:34 First half we didn't handle it as well as we could have,
00:11:38 but second half we thought we were really good.
00:11:40 It was crazy how hard we fought.
00:11:43 And in the end you get nothing.
00:11:45 The result is gone, but the performance will stay with me forever.
00:11:49 I've seen especially the still back of the goal that is disallowed.
00:11:54 I think on TV, live television, there were no lines being showed as well.
00:11:59 So it's all a bit strange.
00:12:02 If we bring in VAR to cut out on-pitch decisions, it has to be right, doesn't it?
00:12:06 If you want to change something, you have to do it without our voices.
00:12:10 But if we say something, we get fined.
00:12:12 They don't want to make mistakes, so they make it.
00:12:15 That's how it is, that's really difficult.
00:12:17 We cannot just say, "Stop making these mistakes."
00:12:20 They didn't sit there and think, "Come on, we don't need lines,
00:12:23 "we'll take different lines today."
00:12:26 They didn't do it on purpose, I know that, but the mistakes still happen.
00:12:30 If you want to talk about it, do it properly,
00:12:32 and not with creating headlines, with emotional managers who go for it.
00:12:37 Nothing will change besides my account in the wrong direction.
00:12:41 I don't feel that today.
00:12:44 I'd rather feel for the guy than VAR, because I think that was not a great day.
00:12:49 I feel as well for the ref, because he had not a great day, actually the opposite.
00:12:53 He was out of the game for a second.
00:12:56 We cannot lead a game like this, I think.
00:12:58 But that's it.
00:13:00 He's exasperated and understandably so.
00:13:03 It's a fabulous and somewhat crazy game.
00:13:06 But since then, PGMOL have issued a statement, and here it is.
00:13:11 "PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred
00:13:15 "during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool.
00:13:18 "The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside
00:13:21 "by a run-field team of match officials.
00:13:23 "This was a clear and obvious factual error
00:13:26 "and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention.
00:13:30 "However, the VAR failed to intervene.
00:13:32 "PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error."
00:13:39 Alan, let's have a look at it.
00:13:41 I mean, it's pretty inexplicable, really.
00:13:44 It is, it's incomprehensible, Gary.
00:13:46 It's just... I don't know.
00:13:49 The one bit of VAR that we have accepted and that we've learned
00:13:54 we can't argue about was this, was the offside.
00:13:58 Now, this is going to put so much doubt into decisions that have gone on beforehand
00:14:03 and that are going to go on in the future because of this.
00:14:06 I mean, it is a monumental error.
00:14:09 He is clearly onside.
00:14:11 We saw it straight away.
00:14:12 We actually spotted straight away, within a second or two,
00:14:15 we said, "Hang on a minute, that's not offside."
00:14:18 Now, what we're led to believe is that Darren England,
00:14:22 who is the VAR in the VAR hub, and Daniel Cook is the assistant VAR,
00:14:28 they've done all what they should have done in terms of drawing the lines
00:14:32 and saying, instead of saying to the referee, Simon Hooper,
00:14:36 "You need to allow a goal then because that is not offside."
00:14:39 They're our lines, by the way, for clarification.
00:14:41 For some reason, he's had a huge lapse in concentration.
00:14:46 Instead of saying that, he's actually said, "Check complete."
00:14:49 Now, my argument to that would be,
00:14:51 what is the point of then having an assistant VAR?
00:14:55 Because I've worked it out, there's about 30 to 35 seconds
00:14:58 between him making the decision and then allowing kick-off.
00:15:01 So, before kick-off--
00:15:02 So, he's had a moment of panic.
00:15:04 He's had a moment of panic or he's had a moment of lapse in concentration, whatever.
00:15:07 It's a huge error.
00:15:08 But, so that's the VAR Darren England.
00:15:10 The assistant VAR, Daniel Cook, why can't he then say,
00:15:15 "Hang on a minute, before you kick-off, we need to stop this."
00:15:18 Rather than going through this process of saying, "We've made a huge error."
00:15:22 They should have and could have, I think, stopped it before the kick-off.
00:15:25 It's time, isn't it, though?
00:15:27 I mean, everyone's talking about VARs taking too long.
00:15:30 Basically, they've panicked in the moment, made a mistake,
00:15:33 and it's been a horrible mistake.
00:15:36 It certainly has.
00:15:37 There were two red cards to look at as well.
00:15:39 One straight red, the other one with two yellow cards.
00:15:43 A bit unfortunate, wasn't it?
00:15:45 I think this one with Curtis Jones, it is unfortunate
00:15:49 because we've all been, as he played the game,
00:15:51 he's touched the top of the ball, which then led to him outstretching his leg,
00:15:57 which on this angle, it looks really, really bad.
00:16:01 But in the moment, on that particular angle, it doesn't look--
00:16:06 This is what we don't like to see.
00:16:09 If a referee goes to the screen and sees this image,
00:16:12 he's already planted the seed in his head that it looks ridiculously bad,
00:16:17 and it was always going to be sent off after that.
00:16:19 I think that's really, really unlucky, and I also think this is really unlucky.
00:16:23 I mean, he gets a yellow card here for chasing him, running him.
00:16:27 He doesn't do anything.
00:16:28 Look, he doesn't attempt to tackle him.
00:16:30 He doesn't attempt to stick his leg out.
00:16:32 That just contact there, through no fault of Jota's, makes his run.
00:16:38 He then clips himself.
00:16:40 I think that's a very, very harsh yellow card.
00:16:42 But when you're on that yellow card, then you can't make challenges like that.
00:16:48 [CROWD CHEERING]
00:16:51 I mean, it's just been a horrendous day for the officials, for the VAR.
00:16:57 I mean, we've seen some howlers over our time, but that is the biggest one,
00:17:02 and trust is going to be a huge problem for them going forward.
00:17:06 In amongst all that, it was a terrifically entertaining game of football.
00:17:10 It wasn't Liverpool's day, obviously, but if anything could go wrong,
00:17:14 everything went wrong.
00:17:15 I was devastated for him, to be honest, just because they defended so well
00:17:20 in the latter part of the game with nine men,
00:17:23 and to have that go against you in the last minute of the game,
00:17:27 oh, I felt for him, and I really did.
00:17:30 Well done to Spurs, though. They kept going,
00:17:32 and they've started the season superbly well.
00:17:34 Certainly have.
00:17:35 The last time Manchester City won their first seven games of a league season
00:17:39 was 1897.
00:17:41 They had the chance to equal that record against Wolves.
00:17:44 Guy Mowbray was at Molineux.
00:17:47 City still perfect in the Premier League, but beaten in the League Cup on Wednesday,
00:17:52 so it can be done, but can it be done by struggling Wolves,
00:17:55 knocked out themselves at Championship Ipswich?
00:17:58 In league terms, one change to Gary O'Neill's line-up.
00:18:01 Jean-Rignard Vallegard suspended due to his red card at Luton,
00:18:05 so Totti comes in, an extra defender, to deal with Haaland & Co.
00:18:09 Pep Guardiola brings in Nathan Ake for Josko Gvardiol,
00:18:12 and it's Mateo Kovacic for the band Rodri,
00:18:15 two changes from last week's team that started against Nottingham Forest.
00:18:19 One other difference today, Pep Guardiola having to watch the match from upstairs,
00:18:24 a one-game touchline ban having accrued three yellow cards already.
00:18:30 FANS SHOUT OUT
00:18:32 A free hit for Wolves,
00:18:35 well, manager Gary O'Neill doesn't believe in that idea.
00:18:38 He sees this as a good opportunity,
00:18:41 but only if his players in Old Gold are bang on their game.
00:18:45 That's Ruben Dias, oh, delicious ball!
00:18:49 And taken away from Haaland, that is a great save from Craig Dawson.
00:18:53 What about this ball from Ruben Dias?
00:18:57 They're all onside. Haaland was ready, but so was Dawson, that was terrific.
00:19:01 Today's opponents, in his view, are the best in world football.
00:19:06 Got in the way of Kovacic's pass that was intended for Mateos Nunes.
00:19:11 Now look at Pedro Neto, great pace, Ake can't stop him.
00:19:15 Mateos Kunja's moved into the middle, Neto goes on!
00:19:19 And it's deflected in for an own goal!
00:19:21 An own goal for the Old Gold!
00:19:26 And it's a goal!
00:19:27 And it's a goal!
00:19:29 And it's a goal!
00:19:31 And it's a goal!
00:19:33 And it's a goal!
00:19:35 And it's a goal!

00:20:53 And it's a goal!
00:20:54 And it's a goal!
00:20:56 And it's a goal!
00:20:58 And it's a goal!
00:21:00 And it's a goal!
00:21:02 And it's a goal!
00:21:04 And it's a goal!
00:21:06 And it's a goal!
00:21:08 And it's a goal!
00:21:10 And it's a goal!
00:21:12 And it's a goal!
00:21:14 And it's a goal!
00:21:16 And it's a goal!
00:21:18 And it's a goal!
00:21:20 And it's a goal!
00:21:22 And it's a goal!
00:21:23 And it's a goal!
00:21:25 And it's a goal!
00:21:27 And it's a goal!
00:21:29 And it's a goal!
00:21:31 And it's a goal!
00:21:33 And it's a goal!
00:21:35 And it's a goal!
00:21:37 And it's a goal!
00:21:39 And it's a goal!
00:21:41 And it's a goal!
00:21:43 And it's a goal!
00:21:45 And it's a goal!
00:21:47 And it's a goal!
00:21:49 And it's a goal!
00:21:51 And it's a goal!
00:21:52 And it's a goal!
00:21:54 And it's a goal!
00:21:56 And it's a goal!
00:21:58 And it's a goal!
00:22:00 And it's a goal!
00:22:02 And it's a goal!
00:22:04 And it's a goal!
00:22:06 And it's a goal!
00:22:08 And it's a goal!
00:22:10 And it's a goal!
00:22:12 And it's a goal!
00:22:14 And it's a goal!
00:22:16 And it's a goal!
00:22:18 And it's a goal!
00:22:20 And it's a goal!
00:22:21 And it's a goal!
00:22:23 And it's a goal!
00:22:25 And it's a goal!
00:22:27 And it's a goal!
00:22:29 And it's a goal!
00:22:31 And it's a goal!
00:22:33 And it's a goal!
00:22:35 And it's a goal!
00:22:37 And it's a goal!
00:22:39 And it's a goal!
00:22:41 And it's a goal!
00:22:43 And it's a goal!
00:22:45 And it's a goal!
00:22:47 And it's a goal!
00:22:49 And it's a goal!
00:22:50 And it's a goal!
00:22:52 And it's a goal!
00:22:54 And it's a goal!
00:22:56 And it's a goal!
00:22:58 And it's a goal!
00:23:00 And it's a goal!
00:23:02 And it's a goal!
00:23:04 And it's a goal!
00:23:06 And it's a goal!
00:23:08 And it's a goal!
00:23:10 And it's a goal!
00:23:12 And it's a goal!
00:23:14 And it's a goal!
00:23:16 And it's a goal!
00:23:18 And it's a goal!
00:23:19 And it's a goal!
00:23:21 And it's a goal!
00:23:23 And it's a goal!
00:23:25 And it's a goal!
00:23:27 And it's a goal!
00:23:29 And it's a goal!
00:23:31 And it's a goal!
00:23:33 And it's a goal!
00:23:35 And it's a goal!
00:23:37 And it's a goal!
00:23:39 And it's a goal!
00:23:41 And it's a goal!
00:23:43 And it's a goal!
00:23:45 And it's a goal!
00:23:47 And it is from Huang!
00:23:48 Oh, what a noise in Wolverhampton!
00:23:56 A lightning quick break!
00:24:08 Full marks to Nelson Samedo for what he brought to that!
00:24:12 Boy did he set off!
00:24:16 Out of the traps!
00:24:17 And not for the first time this afternoon
00:24:23 They got numbers into the middle to support the break
00:24:27 City switched off
00:24:29 And it's the most simple of tasks
00:24:31 For Huang He-Chan
00:24:33 His fifth goal of the season
00:24:35 What a huge goal that is in this game!
00:24:37 Wolves 2, Manchester City 1
00:24:40 Akanji
00:24:45 Grealish
00:24:46 Akanji
00:24:49 Walker
00:24:54 Straight it's up!
00:24:56 And very well held
00:24:58 Would this be the best win of Gary O'Neill's relatively rookie managerial career to date?
00:25:06 Wolves win!
00:25:12 It's far from just any win
00:25:14 The champions have beaten and dropped Premier League points
00:25:17 For the first time this season
00:25:19 And they lose for the second time this week
00:25:22 Some said this was a free hit for them
00:25:25 Gary O'Neill wasn't having that
00:25:27 Free hit, not a chance
00:25:30 What it is, is three points for Wolves
00:25:33 Wolves 2, Manchester City 1
00:25:36 Congratulations Wolves, they defend really well
00:25:40 We struggled to make our build up, our first process, our movements
00:25:43 We had our chances, we struggled to control the transitions
00:25:47 Because they are really good
00:25:49 They defend really well and that's all
00:25:51 Beating the best team in the world
00:25:53 Or possibly the best team ever is obviously a massive result for us
00:25:56 Especially off the back of a tough start to the season
00:25:59 The lads have stayed committed in every game
00:26:01 Given everything in every game
00:26:03 Prep went well the last couple of days
00:26:05 Game looked exactly how we expected it to look today
00:26:09 And we went to the plan and delivered a fantastic performance
00:26:11 Coming into this game we knew it was a big game
00:26:14 But we knew we were ready to attack Man City
00:26:16 Of course they are a top team but we are at home
00:26:18 We had the crowd behind us
00:26:20 We need to stick to our game plan that the manager gave us
00:26:22 Fight for every chance and take our moments
00:26:24 And I think we have done that today
00:26:26 Looking forward to the analysis on match of the day tonight?
00:26:28 I don't watch it very often but I might tune in this time
00:26:31 What do you mean you don't watch it very often Gary?
00:26:35 Out of order, he will be watching tonight
00:26:38 He and Wolves found a way, what was that way?
00:26:41 Well they had incredible pace and ability on the transition
00:26:45 With Kunja, Neto and Hwang
00:26:49 What they did is, I mean Kovacic was changed position today
00:26:53 Because of Rodri out missing through suspension
00:26:56 He was a sitting midfielder
00:26:58 And he gave the ball away so many times
00:27:00 But what they did really well
00:27:02 And we have said it before when you are playing against Man City
00:27:05 You have to be almost perfect
00:27:07 Yeah they get a little bit of luck
00:27:08 But that is what happened all day
00:27:10 And then all of a sudden you have got that
00:27:12 Because we know City, they commit men forward
00:27:15 And the way they play they want to score goals
00:27:17 But they also leave a little bit for you at the back
00:27:20 If you have got the ability to hit them on the attack
00:27:22 And the bravery
00:27:24 And the bravery absolutely
00:27:26 And you are able to get players up quickly
00:27:28 Which is what Wolves did really really well
00:27:30 They not only defended well
00:27:32 And I know they only had one shot on target
00:27:35 Which caused them so many problems
00:27:36 When this happened
00:27:38 You can see they have got men behind the ball
00:27:40 But this is what they were brilliant at
00:27:42 In winning that ball back
00:27:44 And then all of a sudden they turned defence into attack
00:27:46 Because they had the pace
00:27:48 I mean look at the pace there from Neto
00:27:50 He leaves it like he is standing there doesn't he
00:27:52 He gets away from them superbly well
00:27:54 Ok, nothing comes of that
00:27:56 But then all of a sudden the winning goal comes from that
00:27:58 And it would be no surprise to you
00:28:00 Two players who play a huge part
00:28:03 Kunya in there
00:28:04 Falls to Huang
00:28:06 And then Kunya lays that little ball off to him
00:28:08 And they get that goal
00:28:10 And what a win that was for Wolves and for Gary O'Neill
00:28:12 They were superb
00:28:14 As I said not only doing that
00:28:16 But defensively which is what Mike is going to talk about as well
00:28:18 Because they did indeed keep Haaland quiet
00:28:20 Which not many teams have done
00:28:22 He was your former GB Olympic team mate
00:28:26 What was he known as?
00:28:28 Ballon Dawson
00:28:30 Ballon Dawson
00:28:32 And he was fantastic today
00:28:34 Honestly he is such an underrated defender
00:28:37 Wherever he goes he does well
00:28:39 But today he was exceptionally well
00:28:41 When he was playing against Haaland
00:28:43 He wouldn't let him out of his sight
00:28:45 Early doors, he was tussling with him
00:28:47 He always knew where he was
00:28:49 If you look, as soon as he drops off
00:28:51 Comes back around
00:28:53 He knows exactly where Haaland is going to be
00:28:56 This way he is looking at him
00:28:58 Anticipating where Haaland is going to run
00:29:01 He is not bothered about anyone else
00:29:02 Grappling him, dropping off at the right time
00:29:05 Always aware of what is surrounding him
00:29:07 This is what I loved about his game today
00:29:09 He was such a mature performance
00:29:11 From a centre half
00:29:13 Did all the hard yards, heading it out
00:29:15 And it was his positioning as well
00:29:18 This is the one I love
00:29:20 Because normally as a centre half in this position
00:29:23 You normally come across and fill that space
00:29:26 But he goes all the way with Haaland
00:29:29 Because Haaland says, ok, no problem
00:29:30 Totte you go in that position
00:29:32 I'm staying with Haaland, you're not getting on the ball
00:29:34 And he did exactly that
00:29:36 And I just thought it was all round perfection
00:29:39 And this is Haaland's only shot
00:29:41 It's like an old fashioned one on one
00:29:43 It was, it was just brilliant
00:29:45 And the time when he got away
00:29:47 This comes from a set piece
00:29:49 And it's second phase
00:29:51 And he was nowhere near Haaland
00:29:53 But what he's doing is clearing it off the line for his team mate
00:29:55 And it was just a wonderful, wonderful performance
00:29:58 As quiet as I've seen Haaland
00:29:59 Since he came to Man City
00:30:02 Just one shot
00:30:04 It's madness
00:30:06 Expected goal, what? 0.06
00:30:09 It's difficult to score with that
00:30:11 Brighton sat third in the table
00:30:13 With five wins from six games
00:30:15 They faced Aston Villa
00:30:17 Who did the double over them last season
00:30:19 Jonathan Pearce was at Villa Park
00:30:21 Fans of both clubs saying
00:30:24 We're all going on a European tour together
00:30:27 On the final day of last season
00:30:28 When Villa won this fixture
00:30:30 To join Brighton in UEFA competitions
00:30:32 Both lost their opening group games
00:30:34 Both lost their midweek Caramel Cup ties as well
00:30:37 Villa vying to win five of their opening seven
00:30:39 Premier League games though
00:30:41 For the third time
00:30:43 Have an unchanged sign from last weekend's win at Chelsea
00:30:46 Ollie Watkins has scored in his last three matches
00:30:48 Against Brighton
00:30:50 18 year old Jack Hinshaw
00:30:52 Makes his full Seagulls debut
00:30:54 A fourth generation of footballers in the club
00:30:56 Dan Adam and great uncle Danny
00:30:57 Played for Brighton
00:30:59 Great uncle Martin managed them
00:31:01 He replaces Dahoud
00:31:03 From the win over Bournemouth
00:31:05 Keeper Steel, March and Mitoma are back as well
00:31:07 In their other changes
00:31:09 They're looking to win six of their opening seven
00:31:11 In the league for the first time since 2016
00:31:13 Aston Villa have held sway
00:31:17 For successive Premier League wins against Brighton
00:31:20 They've scored two in every game
00:31:22 This could be high scoring
00:31:25 High scoring
00:31:26 Gilmour looks for the number
00:31:30 Stute-Bignan in behind
00:31:32 Can he finish?
00:31:34 Too near a goalkeeper of Emi Martinez's class to beat him
00:31:37 But it was an adventurous run forward
00:31:39 And the first chance of the game
00:31:41 Roberto Deservi
00:31:43 180 goals in Brighton games since he took charge
00:31:46 This is his 48th
00:31:48 So you're talking about an average of nearly four goals
00:31:51 In every Brighton game they play
00:31:54 Very adventurous
00:31:55 Buccaneering
00:31:57 Can be open at the back
00:31:59 Again in Scotland
00:32:03 Here's Cash, no ball in
00:32:05 And Aston Villa lead with a fine goal
00:32:07 And Ollie Watkins has another
00:32:09 Against Brighton and Herbalvian
00:32:11 Aston Villa
00:32:13 Looking to make it ten consecutive home league wins
00:32:16 In a row
00:32:18 A one up
00:32:20 Mitoma switched off momentarily
00:32:23 But Cash to get away from him
00:32:24 And Watkins in the middle
00:32:26 At the time and the space
00:32:28 He's now scored in four appearances in a row
00:32:31 Against Brighton and Herbalvian
00:32:33 It's 11 consecutive Premier League matches now for Brighton
00:32:38 Without keeping a clean sheet
00:32:40 It's a misplaced pass by Veltman and Villarin here again
00:32:44 Watkins
00:32:46 Brighton are chasing back
00:32:48 Watkins sidesteps inside, one and two
00:32:50 And scores!
00:32:52 And the counter
00:32:53 They are deadly
00:32:55 In counter-attacking these days
00:32:57 Two goals in nine minutes for Ollie Watkins
00:32:59 And Aston Villa are very much in the driving seat
00:33:02 Mistake by Brighton, Veltman gave it away
00:33:05 And from that moment on
00:33:07 Aston Villa went for them
00:33:09 And look at the pace of Watkins
00:33:11 And the composure too
00:33:13 Inside one and two
00:33:15 It is going to be a possible offside
00:33:20 Is the Aston Villa player there in the eye-line of the goalkeeper
00:33:23 Because he's standing well offside
00:33:25 And the goal stands
00:33:27 Now Brighton will say
00:33:30 That Steele couldn't make up his mind
00:33:32 As to how to dive or when to dive
00:33:35 Because the player was there
00:33:37 Webster, Douglas-Louise powering through
00:33:41 At the moment Villa are winning the midfield central area hands down
00:33:44 That's a foul on March I would have thought
00:33:48 Rodri says no
00:33:49 And Watkins picks it up again
00:33:51 And has opportunities here left and right
00:33:53 Is Dina back to Watkins
00:33:55 Set up for Diaby, parried by Steele
00:33:57 Diaby's second time, it's an own goal
00:33:59 Winning off Estupinan and Brighton
00:34:01 And Hobart are 3-0 down at Aston Villa
00:34:03 And they've contributed to their own downfall
00:34:05 This will be checked for a possible foul on March
00:34:08 In the build-up
00:34:10 Brighton clearly felt that was a foul
00:34:13 But look at this
00:34:15 It's four on five
00:34:17 Diaby first time parried
00:34:18 And then up the unfortunate Estupinan into his own goal
00:34:21 It would be three goals inside
00:34:24 A 15 minute purple patch for Aston Villa
00:34:27 Goal stands
00:34:29 Two for Watkins and the Estupinan own goal
00:34:34 Aston Villa in the box seat
00:34:37 High foot there, no free kick given, Matoma
00:34:41 Now Billy Gilmore looking for Feltman in behind
00:34:46 Early ball in, Sonny Marx!
00:34:47 Chances for Brighton to get back into its spurt
00:34:50 Good football, fine approach, no end product
00:34:54 This half-time team talk against Bournemouth last week certainly did the trick
00:35:00 We'll have to bring about something of a miracle if Brighton are to get anything out of this game
00:35:04 Dramatic change at half-time by Roberto Dzerbe
00:35:09 Lamptey, Batty and Joao Pedro on
00:35:12 For Estupinan, Welbeck and Ferguson
00:35:16 Billy Gilmore
00:35:17 Into Joao Pedro, fouled by Paltrow
00:35:21 Matoma, Brighton in a hurry
00:35:26 Joao Pedro, did really well
00:35:29 Tried to put it back to Marci, still in there, chucked it out
00:35:32 They've got one back
00:35:34 Forced in by Antsy Fati for his first goal for the club
00:35:37 But this will be checked
00:35:39 This could be offside here against Joao Pedro
00:35:43 As he gets involved again, he's onside there
00:35:45 Slips beyond the defender
00:35:48 It's whether or not he's offside there, but it comes off a Villa player
00:35:51 Don't forget, McGinn off the field of play, counts as a defender
00:35:54 So the goalkeeper counts as the second defender
00:35:57 And Antsy Fati is onside
00:35:59 And Aston Villa, their lead is now 3-1
00:36:03 Antsy Fati gets his first goal in English football
00:36:11 Has to leave well, Hinshaw would have helped it on first time
00:36:14 Here's Gilmore
00:36:15 Giving away to Watkins
00:36:18 Looks for McGinn
00:36:21 Good criss-cross by Aston Villa
00:36:23 Back to Watkins on a hat-trick
00:36:25 It'll be his second of the season
00:36:27 And he gets it, by a deflection
00:36:29 He's the first Villa player to get a couple of hat-tricks of the season
00:36:33 So Joan de Grey in 76-77
00:36:36 And they lead by four goals to one
00:36:40 Watched by the England head coach
00:36:42 Wasn't picked up
00:36:44 Big deflection off Webster, looped it up beyond steel
00:36:47 But it was heading on target
00:36:49 So it will be his goal I think
00:36:51 And that'll be his hat-trick
00:36:53 Ollie Watkins is virtually single-handedly destroyed
00:36:57 Brighton Herbarium
00:36:59 A year ago this club was in the doldrums
00:37:01 Bruno Emery
00:37:04 Has taken them into the upper echelons
00:37:06 Back into Europe
00:37:09 Ramsey
00:37:10 To bend it beautifully
00:37:12 And he has bent it beautifully
00:37:14 And Aston Villa have a fifth goal
00:37:17 And they have been superb today
00:37:20 And they have blown Brighton Herbarium away
00:37:23 And Ramsey, who's had his pain this season
00:37:26 And has played just 16 minutes of football before today
00:37:29 Has washed away all that pain with a fine goal
00:37:33 Aston Villa 5, Brighton 1
00:37:37 Villa Park
00:37:38 Is absolutely bubbling
00:37:40 I think it's the first time Aston Villa have scored five in a home league game
00:37:45 Since they drew five all here with Nottingham Forest
00:37:48 In the Championship back in November 2018
00:37:51 Again around the corner, Watkins in here again
00:37:54 Denied another one
00:37:56 But Douglas Luiz
00:37:58 Follows up
00:38:00 To complete a brilliant Aston Villa victory and performance
00:38:06 And leave Brighton Herbarium crestfallen
00:38:09 By a very bad defeat
00:38:11 And Douglas Luiz becomes only the second Villa player
00:38:15 To score in five successive Premier League home matches
00:38:18 The first one blocked
00:38:20 And the follow up succeeds
00:38:22 Aston Villa 6, Brighton Herbarium 1
00:38:26 Villa, brilliant on the day
00:38:28 How much of a plan was it to play Watkins and Diaby
00:38:32 And indeed Douglas Luiz to press Brighton
00:38:35 Right from the start to stop them coming out
00:38:37 Yes, we tried to have one player more with two strikers to high pressing
00:38:42 But of course we needed to do very strong work
00:38:49 Running a lot, ahead, forward, back
00:38:53 Shuffle over a lot
00:38:55 And I think the players today were very focused to do it
00:38:57 We are trying to manage in different ways
00:39:00 The squad, the players
00:39:03 We have to work, we have to improve in this
00:39:05 If we want to keep the level we reached the last season
00:39:10 Because last season was one game per week
00:39:14 We are not used to play so many games
00:39:16 And today we played without mental energy
00:39:19 We were not ready to fight and to play such a tough game
00:39:25 You're the first Aston Villa player to score two hat-tricks in the same season
00:39:28 Since Andy Gray
00:39:30 They've had some strikers here, that's a great
00:39:32 We've had a lot of good players play for this club
00:39:35 So that's an honour to do
00:39:39 But it's definitely not going to be my last, I'm going to keep going
00:39:42 He was here today, Gareth, watching you
00:39:44 He was going to have a little nod from you wasn't he?
00:39:46 Yes, all I can do is score goals
00:39:48 That's what I know I need to do to get into the England squad
00:39:51 And that's what I've done today
00:39:53 So I don't think I can do any more
00:39:55 So it's up to him
00:39:57 Yes, special day for Oli
00:39:59 It always helps when you score goals
00:40:01 I don't want to get a stat from Alan Shearer somewhere
00:40:03 No, no, no, thank God
00:40:05 We haven't got time, too many great matches
00:40:07 A stunning victory though for Aston Villa
00:40:09 They had a plan, and what was that plan?
00:40:12 They dominated Brighton in every position from start to finish
00:40:15 They were certainly too strong for them in midfield
00:40:18 They were prepared to commit men forward as we see there
00:40:21 Push the full-backs really, really high
00:40:24 And when they get into those positions
00:40:26 Then they certainly punished Brighton
00:40:30 They couldn't cope with him
00:40:31 Matty Cash down that right-hand side I thought he was superb
00:40:34 And certainly showed that when he's setting this first goal up
00:40:37 The way they moved the ball, his movement was excellent
00:40:40 They know where they're going to put that ball
00:40:43 And he knows where he's going to put it into the area
00:40:45 And he finished it off and got, as he said, got the hat-trick in front of the England manager
00:40:49 They were also prepared to sit and then force Brighton into errors
00:40:53 There you go, they pressed them really, really well
00:40:56 At the right time, in the right positions
00:40:59 But then they didn't sit back and admire that
00:41:01 They got into, I mean a terrible defending
00:41:03 Let him come back inside on his right foot
00:41:06 And then put goal number two away
00:41:08 But then look at the difference
00:41:10 They battered them in midfield
00:41:12 Himsherwood and Gilmore couldn't cope with Aston Villa's strength and pace in that midfield
00:41:16 They win the ball again
00:41:18 Then they're prepared to get into those positions again
00:41:22 And they hurt them
00:41:24 And they went after them and they scored some good goals
00:41:27 And it was okay, they got a little bit of luck in that one
00:41:29 But that certainly didn't change here
00:41:31 But look who wins the ball here, in Watkins
00:41:33 They press them again in the right position
00:41:35 He wins the ball
00:41:37 And then all of a sudden they turn defence into attack
00:41:39 But they've got six Brighton players there
00:41:41 All of them looking at the ball, look
00:41:43 And no one sees Watkins' goal, goes around either side
00:41:45 Yes, we've highlighted his goals
00:41:47 But he's the one that wins the ball back
00:41:49 And he gets his reward here, as we said, in front of Gareth Southgate
00:41:52 And he said he can't do any more, it's now up to him
00:41:56 And Aston Villa are strong at home in the league
00:41:57 That's ten straight league victories
00:41:59 So anyone going there knows that they're in for a tough time
00:42:02 Absolutely
00:42:04 Luton picked up their first ever Premier League point
00:42:06 In a 1-1 draw with Wolves
00:42:08 They travelled to Everton
00:42:10 Who'd lost all three games at Goodison Park without scoring
00:42:13 Tom Gale, watch this one
00:42:15 Victory for either side would deliver their fans a much needed dose of optimism
00:42:23 Luton still await their first three points of the season
00:42:26 Everton could end the day celebrating three wins on the spin
00:42:29 Sean Dyche now has two number nines fully fit
00:42:32 Dominic Calvert-Lewin starts a match at Goodison for the first time this campaign
00:42:36 Beto's on the bench
00:42:38 Rob Edwards senses improvement with every Premier League game
00:42:42 Kelly Ruddick-Mapanzu makes just his second start at this level
00:42:46 Carlton Morris notches up his 50th league appearance for the club
00:42:51 Everton are the only Premier League side yet to score at home this season
00:42:55 Luton are the only Premier League side yet to take the lead in a game
00:42:59 Surely one of those has got to give here this afternoon
00:43:03 Decore
00:43:05 Spotted McNeil who makes the most of the situation
00:43:09 And boy did that almost come off
00:43:12 It's not the best of balls from Decore
00:43:15 But Dwight McNeil seizes the initiative
00:43:19 Came awfully close to bagging his first goal of the season
00:43:22 Bell thought about the shot
00:43:25 Plays Doughty and instead takes a touch
00:43:28 Luton Town corner
00:43:31 What can Luton Town mastermind from this set piece?
00:43:37 Lucky with the header
00:43:39 Best chance of the game for the visitors
00:43:42 Falls to their captain
00:43:44 Times the run well
00:43:47 Just can't keep the header down
00:43:49 He knows that's a big opportunity gone begging
00:43:52 Young had to get a header on it
00:43:55 It's a corner to Luton Town
00:43:58 Well Tom Lockyer missed a free header from the last corner
00:44:03 What can they do here?
00:44:05 Luton Town Morris it was who wins the header
00:44:07 Came off an Everton body
00:44:09 Tarkovsky
00:44:11 I'm not completely sure how much the Everton captain knew about that
00:44:16 Doughty to take
00:44:18 Morris again
00:44:22 And it is followed up by the Luton Town captain
00:44:26 He makes amends for his earlier miss
00:44:30 It's the first time the newly promoted side have taken the lead in a Premier League match this season
00:44:37 Everton nil, Luton Town one
00:44:40 Morris hits the ball
00:44:44 It goes off Pickford
00:44:46 Ashley Young can't clear it in time
00:44:48 Credit to the Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer
00:44:51 Hunger, desire, gets there and gets his rewards
00:44:55 Everton's prospective new owners
00:44:59 Don Drasfield, Steve Pascoe and Josh Wander of 777 have flown in for their first game here at Goodison
00:45:06 Pending approval, they're in the process of agreeing a deal with Farhad Moshiri to buy the club
00:45:13 Pickford
00:45:14 reluctant to hoof the ball long
00:45:18 Luton momentarily back in possession and actually they win
00:45:25 A free kick which will drive Sean Dyche mad because Everton were in control of that situation
00:45:32 So Narnes outstretched leg and a combination actually Tarkovsky in from behind
00:45:40 Dowty goes to the back post and Morris is there
00:45:44 Luton Town's top scorer in the Premier League is at it again
00:45:51 Straight off the training ground for Rob Edwards' side
00:45:55 The concentration and the technique to calmly tuck away his third Premier League goal of the season
00:46:03 Everton nil, Luton two
00:46:07 Sean Dyche celebrated his 500th game in management midweek and their victory at Villa Park
00:46:12 Asked if he could do another 500, he joked and laughed
00:46:15 He's not laughing or joking in game number 501
00:46:19 Mikalenko, McNeil, hops for the cross, gone, he's there!
00:46:25 Off the frame of Thomas Kaminski's goal
00:46:29 That's the closest Sean Dyche's side have come
00:46:32 There's no way the goalkeeper's saving that but he is helped out by the crossbar
00:46:37 Good header by Morris
00:46:39 O'Norner, good save surely!
00:46:43 Calvert-Lewin looks straight over at the referee's assistant whose flag remains down
00:46:50 They are checking for a potential offside with O'Norner
00:46:57 Is this goal going to stand?
00:47:03 Calvert-Lewin is clearly onside in that situation
00:47:07 The goal does stand! Dominic Calvert-Lewin's got his side back in this
00:47:15 Everton one, Luton two
00:47:17 Ogbene, stabbed it past Young
00:47:27 Morris, trying to create space for the shot, finds Doughty
00:47:33 Hangs up the cross and Brown wins the header surely!
00:47:36 But the offside flag is up
00:47:40 There wasn't too much conviction in the Luton Town celebrations
00:47:45 But Doughty once again the provider for everything good about Luton Town this afternoon
00:47:51 Everton on the verge of losing seven of their last eight Premier League home games
00:47:59 McNeil, looking for Beto Harrison at the back post, Beto!
00:48:04 Surely the Portuguese should have done better in that situation
00:48:11 Harrison keeps the ball alive and Beto can't keep the header down
00:48:17 Mikalenko, Harrison challenging with
00:48:26 Harrison challenging with Ogbene, it's the Irishman's head
00:48:30 He wins the ball back into Beto!
00:48:35 Well you can't say, Sean Dye, his side haven't created chances
00:48:40 Everton one, Luton Town two
00:48:44 Very proud of everyone, delighted for the football club
00:48:48 It's off our backs now, which has obviously been a little while coming
00:48:53 But we believe we've been improving in every single game
00:48:58 And if people care to look at us in the first game and follow us over the next few
00:49:02 They'll see improvement in every one
00:49:04 It's their set up for us today, we had a large portion of the game with possession
00:49:08 We asked enough questions to score goals but we get in the final area
00:49:11 The dynamic of going to score a goal, the amount of times we flash it across the box
00:49:15 We're not quite driving in, it costs you eventually because all the possession
00:49:18 All the chances and all the rest of it, doesn't win games
00:49:22 We're stopping them going in and that's what wins games
00:49:24 There's a lot of people who have been saying a lot of things
00:49:27 So it's nice to try and silence them a little bit and get the first win on the board
00:49:32 So yeah it feels really good
00:49:35 But we need to try and back that up now, first win's the first win
00:49:39 We want to try and push on now
00:49:42 Here is Shiner, didn't he?
00:49:45 Another defeat at home for Everton but let's focus on Luton Town
00:49:50 Their first ever win in the Premier League
00:49:52 Magical moment for them, what was the key?
00:49:56 They played to their strengths and it was set pieces
00:50:00 On a set piece here Everton have got two on the post
00:50:04 Which gives an overload to Luton
00:50:07 And Morris was corning carnage in this space
00:50:10 That left the space here for Lockyer to have a free header
00:50:14 And this was a warning in that first half
00:50:19 And it was a play just over the bar
00:50:21 But the exact same thing happens again, this time it's Lockyer going in there
00:50:24 For Morris to make the run round to the front post
00:50:27 And Everton couldn't get to grips with it
00:50:30 What happens here, again Lockyer involved in there
00:50:33 Morris gets free, makes his run
00:50:36 But Lockyer doesn't sleep, he goes for the second ball on the second face
00:50:40 But this is a great one, he's got his hands up
00:50:43 You see Morris at the back post, it definitely means for him
00:50:47 They're blocking Mikalenko and yes
00:50:49 I just thought everything they did today, they went back to basics
00:50:53 And it worked for them, it certainly did
00:50:55 Yeah well done Luton, that was very good
00:50:57 They were excellent, it's a devastating defeat for Everton
00:51:00 That's four straight defeats at home this season
00:51:03 Real cause for concern isn't it?
00:51:05 Really cause for concern yeah
00:51:07 Only scored one goal as well and they've got Bournemouth at home next week
00:51:11 So that is a huge game again for them
00:51:13 But they are creating, they're just missing so many chances
00:51:16 They certainly are
00:51:17 Manchester United face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford for the second time this week
00:51:21 After beating them 3-0 in the League Cup on Tuesday
00:51:24 Commentary comes from Simon Brotherton
00:51:26 Two wins with clean sheets as well
00:51:30 Have Manchester United feeling better about themselves again
00:51:33 After losing their last home league game 3-1 to Brighton
00:51:36 They make four changes today
00:51:38 Fakundo Pellistri and Sofiane Amrabat
00:51:41 Both start in the Premier League for the first time
00:51:44 Raphael Varane and Mason Mount come in too
00:51:46 Having recently returned from injury
00:51:48 Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is unbeaten on his last four league visits here
00:51:54 But he's without his top scorer today
00:51:56 Injury forces Oddson-Edouard to the sidelines
00:51:59 With Jean-Philippe Mateta leading the attack in his absence
00:52:02 It's the only change from last week's draw with Fulham
00:52:05 Crystal Palace wearing black armbands today
00:52:11 Paying tribute to the memory of 15-year-old Eliane Andam
00:52:14 Who tragically lost her life on the way to school in Croydon on Wednesday
00:52:19 Sofiane Amrabat losing possession and Jordan Ayoub upended there by Casemiro
00:52:25 Free kick Palace
00:52:27 First challengers
00:52:29 Ayoub won the ball off Amrabat
00:52:31 And Casemiro diving in
00:52:33 So yellow card for a reckless challenge by Casemiro
00:52:39 Berries with this free kick now for Crystal Palace
00:52:43 Cleared by Amrabat only as far as Hughes
00:52:47 Decent looking ball in and Marquee with the header just wide
00:52:55 First sighting of goal for Crystal Palace this afternoon
00:53:07 Rashford, beautiful ball in towards Rasmus Hoyland
00:53:10 Gueye chasing in, Johnston can't get there, Mitchell to the rescue
00:53:14 So close to the opening goal
00:53:17 Lovely swift attack from the home side
00:53:21 Sent on his way here by Marcus Rashford
00:53:24 Away from Gueye, got it past Johnston
00:53:26 Mitchell there for Palace to clear
00:53:29 Rashford, Casemiro losing possession
00:53:35 And Nkure, a bit sloppy from Manchester United
00:53:38 Ayoub
00:53:40 Held up by Amrabat
00:53:42 It's a free kick
00:53:45 Amrabat just always going to concede a free kick with physical contact like that by the touchline
00:53:54 Well I think that sums up his mood pretty well
00:53:57 He could do with a pair of windscreen wipers on his specs I think on a day like today
00:54:03 Everre Eze with the free kick here
00:54:06 Quite a hush around Old Trafford
00:54:08 Eze delivers it, skirts across, oh what a goal!
00:54:13 Sensational strike from Joachim Andersen
00:54:18 Up from the back for the set play
00:54:22 And in a flash the ball is in the back of Manchester United's net
00:54:26 Eze with the delivery
00:54:28 And Andersen perfectly placed
00:54:32 What a lovely strike
00:54:33 And Joachim Andersen with his second goal of the season
00:54:37 And he's found the back of the net here at Old Trafford
00:54:41 To put his team ahead
00:54:43 It's a very stern and unimpressed looking Eric Ten Haard there, the Manchester United manager
00:54:49 As they look to respond straight away here with Rashford
00:54:54 Dalot keeps it alive, Casemiro!
00:54:58 Almost an instant response
00:55:02 He scored against Palace here on Tuesday night
00:55:05 And he wasn't far away from finding the back of the net with this effort
00:55:09 Well he's at it again, Roy Hodgson
00:55:12 Three years ago, Crystal Palace's last victory here at Old Trafford in the league
00:55:16 3-1 in September of 2020
00:55:20 A long way to go in this match of course
00:55:23 But were Manchester United to lose today
00:55:27 Would constitute their worst start to a league season for 34 years
00:55:32 Pressure on Tyreke Mitchell
00:55:34 Won by Facundo Pellistri
00:55:36 Here's Hoyland now, Pellistri into the box
00:55:39 Collected by Mason Mount
00:55:41 Hoyland, Fernandes!
00:55:44 It's blocked by Mitchell
00:55:46 Crowd come alive
00:55:50 As Rashford plays it in
00:55:52 Hoyland tries to bring Casemiro in
00:55:54 It's only half clear
00:55:56 Fernandes! Good save by Johnston
00:55:58 Much better, Old Trafford comes alive
00:56:01 Palace under real pressure there
00:56:03 Really been put under a sustained period of pressure in the match
00:56:09 Palace, that might be about to change here
00:56:12 Hoyland with the header and Johnston there again
00:56:14 Crystal Palace pushed right back here
00:56:18 A couple of saves
00:56:20 Back to back from Sam Johnston
00:56:25 No change in the weather since before the kick-off
00:56:27 Trying to plot a way back into the game
00:56:31 Dalot
00:56:35 Bruno Fernandes
00:56:39 Looking for Rashford
00:56:41 They're claiming a handball there I think against Joel Ward
00:56:44 The ball does touch the hand of Joel Ward I think
00:56:48 But it has been checked and cleared
00:56:50 By the VAR hub
00:56:52 VAR hub
00:56:53 That's putting pressure on Lindelof and getting the better of him as well
00:57:00 And the pass is met by Will Hughes who brings the save from Onana
00:57:04 Back at Hughes but it's a Manchester United free kick
00:57:08 Well struck by Will Hughes, scored one goal last season
00:57:12 Andre Onana called into action
00:57:15 Plenty of room here for Mason Mount
00:57:18 And for Garnaccio
00:57:22 Seamlessly cut up by Jordan Ayot
00:57:24 Mount wins it back
00:57:26 Garnaccio
00:57:27 Good play
00:57:29 Oh and it was so nearly an own goal as it takes a deflection off Anderson
00:57:33 And then at the far post
00:57:36 Tyric Mitchell who will be so relieved to see it bounce wide at the post
00:57:41 Palace goal leaving something of a charmed life there in that moment
00:57:45 Teta proving quite a handful over in that corner
00:57:49 And Boer back in a way to win the ball back
00:57:52 And Rabat though looks like he's lost it
00:57:54 It struck him on the arm I think but not much he could have done about that
00:57:56 Hoyland collects, challenged by Will Hughes
00:57:59 Rasmus Hoyland takes it upon himself to lead Manchester United forward here
00:58:04 For this potentially late rally as Diogo Dalot sends it over
00:58:09 Off Tyric Mitchell and away off the line by Anderson
00:58:12 And just wide via a deflection
00:58:15 It's a corner, they want to hand ball
00:58:18 It is being checked now just to make sure that there wasn't a hand ball here
00:58:23 Let's have a look as Garnaccio shoots
00:58:25 And there is no hand ball
00:58:28 There it is, it is a memorable victory for Crystal Palace
00:58:35 Booze, ring around Old Trafford
00:58:38 Manchester United beaten for the fourth time in their opening seven league fixtures
00:58:44 For them it's the worst start to a league campaign for 34 years
00:58:49 Manchester United 0, Palace 1
00:58:52 Very disappointing
00:58:54 If you concede probably three chances
00:58:58 One is in, was bad defending
00:59:01 Then in the final part of the game I think we get good positions
00:59:05 But the decisions on the ball were poor
00:59:08 It's a bad start, we have to catch up
00:59:11 We have to do better, this is not good enough
00:59:14 Unbelievable win here at Old Trafford
00:59:17 It's not easy to come here
00:59:18 And also after our game on Tuesday I think we had something to prove
00:59:22 And of course a goal for me on the personal is something I will remember
00:59:27 It was a good cross from Ed and I just sensed where the ball would fall
00:59:30 Like a good striker would do
00:59:32 Then I hit it really well and yeah, amazing goal
00:59:35 The way the players went about the game today
00:59:38 That's really praiseworthy and it's something which has given me enormous pleasure
00:59:42 More so I suppose than all the praise that's been heaped upon me
00:59:47 For five successive good results at Manchester United
00:59:50 Because I don't remember all of those ones if I'm to be brutally honest
00:59:54 I remember this one because this is the one that counts at the moment
00:59:57 Well I tell you what, Roy will remind you
01:00:01 There they are and what an impressive list of victories that is
01:00:07 He got a bit of criticism though didn't he mid-week for the team that he put out in the Carabao Cup
01:00:13 But it seems totally justified now
01:00:15 Yeah, justified today, they more than played for him and their fans today
01:00:19 And they were up against it at times
01:00:21 But the back four in Ward, Gehy, Anderson and Mitchell I just thought were absolutely flawless
01:00:30 They were fantastic, right place, right time
01:00:33 They just didn't allow, I mean Man United were really poor I thought in the final third
01:00:37 But they were made to look poor because of this
01:00:40 Because if they lose the first one, look at the way they get up, look at the way they block
01:00:43 Look at the way they're closing down in terms of doing it right as a team
01:00:47 Not just individually, when one goes then the rest of the team came with them
01:00:52 Putting their bodies on the line, men behind the ball, keeping it compact in there
01:00:58 And yeah, they were fantastic, there was just no way through for Manchester United
01:01:02 Yes they had plenty of possession and passes but Palace stuck with them
01:01:06 And Gehy, who I mentioned earlier was great as well
01:01:10 I said Anderson, the number of blocks that he made, the number of one on ones
01:01:15 They were prepared to get in there, I mean Anderson more than played his part
01:01:19 Defensively as well as the goal which we'll see in a minute
01:01:22 But just moments like that, when it looked as if they were under pressure
01:01:26 They were throwing their bodies, their last ditch tackles away
01:01:29 And we watch this one for a block coming up, past Anderson but there's no way past Gehy here
01:01:34 And this is his goal, Anderson, what a finish that is
01:01:37 He mentioned it was a decent cross but the finish was amazing
01:01:41 What are three points for Roy and for Palace?
01:01:43 Superb, by contrast dreadful start to the season for Manchester United on and off the pitch
01:01:49 Man United are just disappointing, they really are
01:01:53 The size of the club, the players that they've brought in
01:01:55 And you're looking for someone every week, when are they going to put it right?
01:01:59 And it just goes on, there's seven points off the top four
01:02:01 They've only scored seven goals in seven games this season
01:02:04 Everyone else in the top four scored at least double that
01:02:07 And the problems just seem to continue
01:02:10 When will it get better? Hopefully soon
01:02:13 We'll see, do you mean that?
01:02:15 Bournemouth versus Arsenal next, Andoni Ireola and Mikel Arteta
01:02:21 Were once teammates in the youth teams of Antiguoco, a town in the province of Gipuzkoa
01:02:27 No time though to bask in former glories, Mark Scott is at the Vitality Stadium
01:02:33 From playing against each other on the beaches of the Basque Country
01:02:39 To a first managerial meeting on the Dorset coast
01:02:43 It is a special day for both Andoni Ireola and Mikel Arteta
01:02:49 Ireola is relieved that top scorer Dominic Salanke has recovered from an ankle issue
01:02:54 But Lloyd Kelly is missing through injury
01:02:56 Marcos Tonesi, who scored at Arsenal last season, replaces him
01:03:00 Having picked up problems in the North London derby
01:03:03 Declan Rice and Bakayo Saka are both OK to start for Arsenal
01:03:07 With habits for the bench Vieira, Arteta's only change from last weekend
01:03:14 Arsenal avoid defeat today, it will be the first time since 2007
01:03:19 That they've gone unbeaten in their opening seven league games
01:03:23 Mkhetia
01:03:26 Feeding Saka
01:03:29 Odegaard
01:03:33 Useful ball that, Jesus is waiting
01:03:36 And has hit the post, and then Bakayo Saka has put it away
01:03:41 Fifth goal of the season for Bakayo Saka
01:03:45 Who has scored or set up half of Arsenal's goals this season
01:03:49 Patient stuff from Arsenal, and then Odegaard picked out Jesus
01:03:56 Neto, dive forwards, and when the ball came back off the post
01:04:01 The goal was gaping for Saka
01:04:03 Who did the rest with a minimum of fuss
01:04:07 As well as Arteta and Iraiola, Unai Emery, Julen Lopetegui and Xabi Alonso
01:04:12 Were also born in the Basque Country
01:04:14 And the Arsenal boss reckons the quality of the food there
01:04:17 Is part of the reason why such a small area has had that much success
01:04:21 I have to make sure I get along
01:04:23 Sinchenko
01:04:25 Setting Mkhetia away
01:04:28 Here's Sinchenko, looking for Mkhetia again
01:04:34 Here's Sinchenko, looking for Mkhetia again
01:04:37 Now, penalty
01:04:39 Aarons incredulous, but Michael Salisbury gave it immediately
01:04:45 Aarons stretching, hoping to get a tickle on the ball, but he didn't
01:04:52 Check complete
01:04:55 Bakayo Saka
01:04:57 Scored from the spot in the North London derby last weekend
01:05:01 It's going to be Martin Oerdigaard to take this one for the Gunners
01:05:05 And Oerdigaard is coolly on target this time around to
01:05:10 Put away his only penalty before today for Arsenal in the winner Palace in August
01:05:19 And was a nice call with the way he converted that one
01:05:23 It was the stuttered run up from Oerdigaard
01:05:28 Waited to see which way Neto was going and then rolled at the other
01:05:32 Arsenal in charge
01:05:34 His side have scored just once in their three home league games this season
01:05:40 And have offered very little going forwards this afternoon
01:05:43 Kluivert
01:05:48 And it comes back for Christy
01:05:53 Good grab by David Raya
01:05:55 Rebound
01:05:56 Broke the way of Christy
01:06:02 Didn't hit it cleanly, but still needed saving by Raya
01:06:06 Now Bakayo Saka
01:06:11 Havertz
01:06:13 Jesus
01:06:15 Saka
01:06:19 And Ketia Rizin couldn't deal with it
01:06:23 Back towards Jesus, Bournemouth just about scrambling away
01:06:27 Oerdigaard
01:06:29 It's another penalty
01:06:30 Oerdigaard getting ready to have a shy goal and Christy just cleans him out
01:06:43 While he was disputing the decision with the referee
01:06:46 Not sure why
01:06:50 So Kai Havertz has been given the chance to score his first goal for Arsenal
01:06:57 Last goal he scored was a penalty
01:06:59 And his first for Arsenal is from the spot as well
01:07:04 3-0 winners here last season
01:07:09 3-0 up early in the second half at the Vitality this time around
01:07:15 And Kai Havertz can toast his first strike in an Arsenal shirt
01:07:21 And struck that one with real authority
01:07:25 To make it 3-0 to Arsenal
01:07:28 Another tough watch for those Bournemouth fans
01:07:33 It's going to be no win in their opening seven league games
01:07:38 His side play Everton Wolves and Burnley next month if they're still winless after that
01:07:43 He might be feeling the heat a bit
01:07:45 And that's been nicked by Gabriel Jesus
01:07:50 Is there to be some icing on their cake?
01:07:55 There certainly might be, it's Smith Rowe, should have been for
01:08:00 What a chance that was for Emil Smith Rowe to get his first goal since April 2022
01:08:11 Credit goes the way of Neto
01:08:14 Smith Rowe
01:08:22 It's a free kick
01:08:36 Tossed in by Edegard and the header is in for four
01:08:39 And it's Arsenal's number four Ben White who's got it
01:08:43 Well he scored in that remarkable comeback win against Bournemouth at the Emirates in March
01:08:50 And he's put the seal on a much, much different afternoon for the Gunners against the Cherries
01:08:59 It has been an absolute stroll on the South Coast
01:09:04 It's a home battering for Bournemouth from the Gunners
01:09:09 And it could easily have been more for Mikel Arteta's men
01:09:14 It's a big credit to the players to win 0-4 away from home in the Premier League
01:09:18 It's a difficult task when you do it every three days
01:09:21 The way that we have to play games even more
01:09:23 And with the players that we were missing and we had issues all the week
01:09:27 Even more so, happy, I think the way we played we have the right to win the game
01:09:32 I think it's the weakest game we've played this season
01:09:36 Today was the first day that I don't finish proud of what the players have done
01:09:43 And now we have to, this week, have to reset to prepare very well
01:09:47 Because it's a very important game against Everton now
01:09:51 How does that come about that Pacaya passes the ball to Kaid for the penalty, for his first goal for Arsenal?
01:09:55 I think it just shows how special we are as a group to be honest with you
01:09:58 I don't know how in other teams there's a specific penalty take off
01:10:02 But we know in this moment how much we're all behind Kai
01:10:05 You can see that with the fans today and obviously to hand him the ball
01:10:08 And for him to slot it away like that in a big pressure moment
01:10:11 It was a key moment for him and obviously for us in the game to go 3-0
01:10:15 A comfortable victory for Arsenal
01:10:18 A lot of talk about Havertz, hasn't there?
01:10:20 About the fact that he was at Chelsea and now he's gone to Arsenal
01:10:23 What's his best position? This, that and the other
01:10:26 But the confidence booster they wanted to give him to give him that penalty
01:10:30 Which was an interesting and a nice thing to do
01:10:33 I love it, I really did
01:10:35 I think you don't know who's going to take it, is it going to be Odegaard, is it going to be Saka?
01:10:38 And then when Havertz steps up, you think just what you need
01:10:42 A little bit of confidence, things have not gone well for him
01:10:45 We know that, I know he scored the Champions League goal in the final
01:10:50 But since that moment we've not seen the best of him
01:10:53 I really do rate him, I think he's got something
01:10:56 He's got a lot of talent
01:10:58 He's got a lot of talent, but this is stats here
01:11:01 It's not good enough, is it Alan?
01:11:03 No, when you look at the numbers, there's definitely player in there
01:11:06 But when you look at his ability, that doesn't match those numbers
01:11:10 They need to improve
01:11:12 But you know that you have to pay ÂŁ60, ÂŁ70, ÂŁ80 million for a squad player nowadays
01:11:21 So he's going to play his part, but whether he'll be a regular or not, I don't think so
01:11:25 Can I ask you something? Would you have let him set the penalty?
01:11:29 It's not very often you ask stupid questions
01:11:32 Well it is actually
01:11:35 You know the answer to that Gary, no I wouldn't
01:11:38 That's why I asked you
01:11:40 Would you Gary?
01:11:41 Yeah, of course I would
01:11:43 Yeah, righto
01:11:45 Not in a million years
01:11:48 What a week for Newcastle who put eight past Sheffield United
01:11:51 Before knocking Manchester City out of the League Cup
01:11:53 Stop smirking
01:11:54 The first 3pm kick-off at St James' Park this year
01:11:57 Featured another newly promoted team in Burnley
01:12:00 Stephen Wyeth was watching
01:12:03 [Crowd cheering]
01:12:05 ...on the back of two different hugely impressive wins
01:12:08 Newcastle now face a club without a victory in the League here in 47 years
01:12:12 Injuries however deny any how continuity
01:12:16 Callum Wilson and Sven Botman are absent
01:12:18 Although Alexander Esaf has made it
01:12:20 Jamal Lassell starts a Premier League game here for the first time in 19 months
01:12:25 Vincent Kompany makes one enforced alteration to his Clarets Premier League XI
01:12:29 Sander Berger replaces the injured Goodmanson
01:12:32 Having scored his first Burnley goal in midweek
01:12:35 Four man recent history in Newcastle's favour
01:12:40 They've won the last four against Burnley
01:12:42 And have done the double over them in three of the last four seasons
01:12:45 That the clubs have been together
01:12:47 Oh, Burn
01:12:49 That slip could prove to be a costly one
01:12:51 Koliosho is away and in behind
01:12:53 Koliosho jumps
01:12:55 Pope comes up with a huge save
01:12:57 And Sander Berger can only put the rebound wide
01:13:00 Koliosho pouncing on the error
01:13:04 And Dhoni's shot was too close to Pope
01:13:07 He reacted well to keep it at nil-nil
01:13:09 Well there's spoken of how this is one of the toughest places to come in the Premier League
01:13:15 Vincent Kompany but his record here as a player was very nearly impeccable
01:13:19 Five wins, two draws, no defeats
01:13:25 Oh, it's a handball against Ramsey
01:13:27 That has got Newcastle to want it back
01:13:29 Almiron
01:13:30 Oh, that is tremendous
01:13:33 Just like that, Newcastle United in front
01:13:38 And it's a very special goal scored by Miguel Almiron
01:13:43 And a Burnley error
01:13:46 Punished in the most devastating fashion by Miguel Almiron
01:13:52 Ramsey caught in possession
01:13:55 And from that moment on Almiron had thoughts of only one thing
01:13:59 And that was curling a quite delicious shot into the top corner of James Trafford's goal
01:14:05 No hope for the Burnley goalkeeper
01:14:08 Oh, super pass to release Cissat
01:14:13 Who's in, bearing down on goal
01:14:15 And will get a second go at it
01:14:19 And cannot strengthen Newcastle's position in the game when he surely should have done
01:14:24 It was Bruno Guimaraes who set in clear, the flag stayed down
01:14:28 Slightly heavy touch from Isak Enable, Trafford to get a touch
01:14:32 But even after that, Isak should have been able to compose himself
01:14:37 And should have been able to turn the ball goalwards to make it three goals in three for him
01:14:41 Not to be
01:14:44 It's the fifth time in nine Premier League campaigns that Burnley have gone winless in their opening five games
01:14:50 They also failed to win the sixth in three of the previous four instances
01:14:56 Newcastle can look to build again, Trippier
01:15:00 Isak
01:15:03 Almiron
01:15:05 Moving the ball really nicely and fluently now, long staff
01:15:09 Options to consider
01:15:11 Oh, that's quite sensational
01:15:14 Both the effort to score and the save from Trafford
01:15:17 Might not be done yet here, Newcastle, Bruno Guimaraes
01:15:21 Floating it into a dangerous area
01:15:25 Almiron couldn't improvise, Ramsey away
01:15:29 Long staff with the cross
01:15:32 And it was the flying header from Anderson that forced the save from Trafford
01:15:37 Good reactions from the Burnley goalkeeper to keep it at 1-0 to Newcastle
01:15:42 Almiron
01:15:46 Newcastle moving the ball suddenly more quickly
01:15:49 Trippier
01:15:51 Oh, so very close to Isak getting on the end of the cross
01:15:56 Trippier did so well to get into a position from which he could send the cross in first time
