00:00 It's been raining for about seven straight days in New York City and the flooding is
00:06 uh, kind of severe in some places.
00:10 Can you tell that I'm on my knees?
00:14 Oh man.
00:16 [Music]
00:37 I'm obviously no expert here but my understanding is they remove the manhole covers, these things
00:43 here, when water gets down there which turns into steam and then pressurizes which could
00:48 make these covers like explode.
00:50 So they remove them while they're doing repairs or whatever they're doing down there.
00:57 But there's a lot of this happening in this part of the city.
00:59 [Music]
01:19 Certain aspects of the city deal with flooding better than others.
01:23 The subway which is effectively a train network that is underground, the subway is particularly
01:30 vulnerable.
01:31 [Music]
01:53 I am issuing a state of an emergency for New York City based on the weather conditions.
02:00 And I want to say to all New Yorkers this is time for heightened alertness and extreme
02:07 caution.
02:09 We're now in uh, where are we?
02:12 We're in Park Slope, Brooklyn where apparently this whole street was underwater like a few
02:16 hours ago.
02:17 The water was like this high.
02:18 I had a bail, I had my two-year-old with me.
02:20 It was absolutely nuts man.
02:22 So how high was the water?
02:24 It was definitely up to my, definitely over my car so when we got out man, what we had
02:29 to do, I had my son get out of the back seat, climb in the front seat, we climbed out the
02:33 side and I carried him.
02:35 This is where, I mean it came in all through the back seat.
02:37 It was nuts man.
02:38 It was about up to here.
02:39 Get out of here.
02:40 Yeah it was crazy.
02:41 Nobody got hurt though?
02:42 No, nobody got hurt thank God.
02:43 Alright, alright.
02:44 Take care.
02:45 How did that BMW get there?
02:47 The water lifted it up.
02:48 It was parked perfectly straight, the water lifted it up.
02:51 And just pushed it sideways.
02:52 And what are you, you're picking them all up and taking them out of here?
02:54 Yeah, we're going to take them all out of here.
02:56 Is this your spot sir?
02:57 Yeah.
02:58 And you got pretty bad down there huh?
02:59 Is it okay if I take a look down there?
03:00 Yeah.
03:01 What is your, alright.
03:24 This ever happened before?
03:50 Yeah, I don't know.
04:10 So we're directly under the Williamsburg Bridge and it used to be like pretty bad down
04:25 here but they've cleared up most of it.
04:28 The FDR was shut down in both directions, now it's just shut down southbound.
04:33 These guys are, these guys are just getting it done.
04:37 6, 6.45pm, 6, 6.45pm which means it's 6.45pm.
05:06 Which means the official flash flood warning from the National Weather Service just ended.
05:13 And I do want to add that while those clips on social media were pretty crazy and what
05:19 I saw on the news, it really made it feel like the whole island of Manhattan and New
05:23 York City at large was under water.
05:26 And those of us who experienced Hurricane Sandy in 2012, today wasn't that.
05:32 Like in 2012 half the island lost power for like a week.
05:36 And so much of the city was under water.
05:38 Those isolated incidents today and moreover it really felt like the city did a good job
05:43 addressing it.
05:44 Nice job New York.
05:46 (upbeat music)
