Notre Dame Defense Should Thrive vs Duke

00:00 Let's look at the matchup between the Notre Dame defense and the Duke offense.

00:09 This is the side of the ball that Notre Dame should thrive on in this matchup.

00:14 This is the part of the matchup and the part of the game where, to me,

00:19 Notre Dame has a pretty clear advantage, to be honest with you.

00:23 One of the things that we had said coming into last week's game was,

00:27 Notre Dame was great statistically.

00:30 And when you look at what Notre Dame's rankings were last week, and

00:34 I'll pull them up now and kind of go over it just to give some context.

00:38 But Notre Dame was just really, really good when it came to being a team

00:43 that could go out there and shut teams down.

00:47 But the question we had coming into last week's game was,

00:52 is Notre Dame good enough to do that against a better team?

00:57 Or was it a situation where it was they beat up on bad teams and

01:03 who had bad offenses, which is true, by the way.

01:09 And would they be able to kind of improve and

01:13 thrive in some of those other instances?

01:17 And so we were gonna know if that was the case.

01:21 And when you look at where they were ranked last week, I have it right here.

01:24 So Notre Dame defensively last week,

01:27 they ranked 14th in the country in scoring defense.

01:30 They were third in total yards.

01:32 They were third in yards per play.

01:34 They were 12th in red zone touchdown, or red zone defense,

01:39 ninth in red zone touchdowns.

01:41 They were, going into last week's game, they were ranked in rush defense.

01:48 They ranked, let's see here, 42nd, 27th in yards allowed per attempt.

01:54 Their pass defense was outstanding.

01:56 They ranked fourth in passing yards allowed, 13th in passing yards per attempt.

02:01 They were outstanding.

02:02 But what we said was, okay, that's great.

02:06 But you haven't been tested by anybody like Ohio State.

02:10 And they were tested by Ohio State.

02:11 And if you just look at statistically and for much of that game,

02:16 they did very well against Ohio State.
