00:00 You know what, these image gatherers have it too good.
00:03 Grabbing images for these lists from matches
00:05 that are just too easy to find, what a life.
00:07 Time to knock them down a peg
00:08 with some matches that were never televised.
00:11 (laughs)
00:12 Also, thank you so much for all that you do.
00:14 The ship does not run without you all.
00:15 Please don't leave me.
00:16 I can't go back to grabbing images myself.
00:18 No, Ollie, no, I can't go back!
00:20 One of the most fun things to discuss
00:22 among any gathering of wrestling fanatics
00:24 is dream matches that we may or may not ever get to see.
00:27 But some of the matches that I would most like to see
00:29 have been seen before, but only by very select,
00:32 very lucky groups of people.
00:34 Sometimes the biggest and coolest matches
00:36 are only shown to the people lucky enough
00:38 to be in attendance at a house show
00:39 or at a show with a particularly special dark match.
00:42 Some of these matches could still happen in the future,
00:44 but for now, you won't find any recordings of them
00:46 in the world today.
00:47 I'm Tempest, hailing from PartsFunKnown,
00:49 and these are 10 dream matches that were never televised.
00:51 But before we get on with our list,
00:53 make sure, of course, that you like this video,
00:54 subscribe, and enable notifications to always on
00:56 so that you never miss a fun list just like it.
00:58 And if you yourself want to be part of a dream match,
01:02 you can be part of one right now,
01:04 going one-on-one with PartsFunKnown
01:06 in a subscriber on a poll match.
01:07 Ha ha, you've already lost, you have to subscribe now.
01:09 Please do it, just, oh my God, please do it.
01:11 Number 10, Randy Orton versus Mr. Perfect.
01:14 It is worth mentioning right off the bat
01:16 that a couple of the matches on this list
01:17 probably were not the five-star classics they could have been
01:20 had both competitors been in their primes
01:22 and put on a big stage.
01:23 Such is the case with this pairing.
01:25 Randy Orton and Mr. Perfect Kurt Hennig
01:27 wrestled a pair of dark matches in 2002,
01:29 just as Orton was arriving on the scene
01:30 and as Hennig was about to depart WWE for the final time.
01:34 So matches they had probably would not have been
01:36 the greatest representation
01:37 of what the two could have done together
01:39 under better, more impossible circumstances.
01:42 Even still, I find myself sad
01:43 that there's no way to go back in time
01:45 to see this generational clash,
01:47 even for just the novelty of it.
01:49 You will find it difficult to name many smoother wrestlers
01:51 with more natural talent in history
01:53 than Randy Orton and Mr. Perfect,
01:54 and it is a shame that they weren't able
01:56 to have more matches together,
01:57 particularly later in Orton's career
01:59 when Hennig would have been a perfect opponent
02:01 for legend killer Randy Orton.
02:03 Pun absolutely intended.
02:05 Number nine, Chris Jericho versus Kenta.
02:07 Kenta never quite had his mojo in WWE.
02:10 Constant injuries did not help matters,
02:12 but his heavy strike and style never translated
02:14 to the more relaxed in-ring style of WWE,
02:17 and thus his run ended up being largely unmemorable
02:20 and a real hurdle for him to overcome
02:21 when he returned to Japan after his exit in 2019.
02:24 However, for as lackluster as this run was for the man,
02:27 you show me Kenta versus Chris Jericho on a card
02:30 and my eyebrows will raise.
02:31 Such was the case when WWE did its tour of Asia
02:34 in the summer of 2017,
02:36 with Jericho taking on the creator
02:37 of the Go to Sleep in Singapore,
02:39 and again, in Tokyo's Ryogoku Sumo Hall.
02:41 Chris Jericho was gone from WWE at the time
02:43 following his murder at the hands of Kevin Owens,
02:46 but Jericho was always one to enjoy wrestling in Japan
02:48 for WWE, even when he wasn't part of the roster,
02:50 as was the case here.
02:52 This is a match I would love to see again
02:53 on AEW Dynamite now, with Kenta back on his game
02:56 and Chris Jericho once again operating
02:58 at the highest in-ring level of his career,
03:00 but for the time being,
03:01 only those lucky fans in Singapore and Japan
03:03 were able to say they've seen these two stars
03:05 of their respective companies properly square off.
03:08 Number eight, Kurt Angle versus Owen Hart.
03:10 Similar to Randy Orton and Mr. Perfect,
03:12 had Kurt Angle and Owen Hart
03:13 gotten to wrestle one another a year later,
03:15 there was a real possibility
03:16 that we could have seen some proper magic between them.
03:18 Their one and only meeting came before Kurt
03:20 had ever debuted on WWE TV,
03:22 wrestling a dark match prior
03:23 to a shotgun Saturday night taping on May 10th, 1999,
03:27 less than two weeks before Owen's tragic death
03:29 at Over the Edge.
03:30 It has been said by a number of people much smarter than me
03:33 that had Owen been able to wrestle the wide range
03:35 of new mid-card talent that arrived in WWE in 1999 and 2000,
03:39 he would have had a career resurgence.
03:41 Getting to wrestle names like Eddie Guerrero,
03:43 Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko,
03:45 and maybe more than any other,
03:47 Kurt Angle would have given Owen so much more to work with
03:50 than he had at the time.
03:51 When he was forced to work with the likes
03:52 of Road Dogg and Test.
03:54 We'll never know just how great Owen's matches
03:56 with those men would have been,
03:57 but for those in Orlando that night,
03:59 they got just a little taste
04:00 of what Owen and Kurt could have been together.
04:02 Number seven, AJ Styles versus Gunther.
04:05 Switching gears to something much more modern
04:07 and incredibly recent,
04:08 if you were going to put two current WWE stars together
04:10 for a fantastic match,
04:12 you would be hard pressed to find a better combo
04:14 than AJ Styles and Gunther.
04:15 This is absolutely a matchup
04:17 that we could see in the future
04:18 once AJ returns from his ankle injury,
04:20 but for now, their only matches together
04:21 came on a recent WWE holiday tour in December of 2022.
04:25 Both matches, taking place in Rochester, New York,
04:27 and Moline, Illinois,
04:29 were for Gunther's Intercontinental Championship
04:31 and both ended in a disqualification
04:32 with Gunther walking out with his title.
04:34 I can only imagine what the reaction in the crowd
04:37 must have been when it became clear
04:39 that this was the matchup they were getting,
04:40 because if it was me,
04:41 I would have lost my goddamn mind
04:43 like the Maple Leafs had just won the Stanley Cup.
04:46 Okay, bad example because that will never happen,
04:48 but this match, it definitely happened.
04:50 These are two men that have built their reputations
04:52 on being among the best wrestlers of their generation,
04:54 and just given their sizes and styles,
04:56 I can't imagine a better opponent for either man.
04:59 Only those in Rochester and Moline know for sure,
05:01 but this is one match I am extremely hopeful
05:04 that we get to see for ourselves.
05:06 Number six, Kevin Owens versus Edge.
05:08 Edge has had matches
05:09 against a good range of current stars
05:10 since his miraculous return from retirement in 2020.
05:13 After facing exclusively Randy Orton
05:15 for the first few singles matches of his return,
05:17 Edge has faced the likes of Roman Reigns,
05:18 Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles,
05:21 Finn Balor, and Damian Priest,
05:22 but one man he hasn't wrestled on TV
05:24 is fellow Canadian Kevin Owens.
05:26 Edge and KO would make fantastic opponents for one another,
05:29 with Edge's thoughtful storytelling
05:30 mixing with KO's explosive offense,
05:32 and to date, the only people who know for sure
05:35 are those who were able to watch their one and only match
05:37 at WWE's Madison Square Garden holiday show
05:39 on December 26th, 2021.
05:41 The two wrestled a steel cage match
05:43 that I really hope we get to see
05:44 before Edge hangs up his boots for good.
05:46 There are still loads of wrestlers left on the WWE roster
05:49 that Edge hasn't had a chance to wrestle,
05:51 but I don't know if there's anyone
05:52 that I would like to see him wrestle more than Kevin Owens.
05:55 But speaking of Kevin Owens,
05:56 number five, Kevin Owens versus Brock Lesnar.
05:59 Can I just say that it is absolutely (beep) mad
06:02 that we have had to see Brock Lesnar
06:04 face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania three separate times,
06:07 but never once have we been given the opportunity
06:09 to watch the beast take on the prize fighter Kevin Owens.
06:12 If I had the book,
06:13 that would have been a WrestleMania match so long ago,
06:15 you have no idea.
06:16 Going back to Madison Square Garden,
06:18 Kevin Owens took on Brock Lesnar in March of 2017,
06:20 before Brock was set to face Goldberg
06:22 and KO was going to wrestle Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 33.
06:25 Certainly not a dream match come true
06:27 for the crowd in New York that night,
06:29 as Brock squashed KO in two minutes,
06:31 but it remains the only time to date
06:33 that the two have gone one-on-one in their careers.
06:35 This is another match on this list
06:36 that could absolutely happen in the future
06:38 as long as Brock keeps having fun
06:40 being the happy-go-lucky cowboy
06:41 that will hunt you down and eat your carcass
06:43 with his bare hands, AKA the best version of Brock Lesnar,
06:46 and personally, I really hope it does.
06:49 If we don't get a version of this match
06:50 made available for public consumption before it's too late,
06:53 I will be a very angry tempest.
06:55 Number four, The Undertaker versus Randy Savage.
06:58 This one is a little bit of a cheat,
06:59 as select clips of this match do exist
07:01 and are available on WWE's YouTube channel,
07:04 but only if you know where to look.
07:05 The Undertaker missed out on wrestling
07:06 a bunch of the top stars of the '80s boom period,
07:09 debuting at the end of 1990,
07:10 but one wrestler he got to mix it up with just once
07:13 was Macho Man Randy Savage.
07:15 Following the destruction of Savage
07:16 and Miss Elizabeth's SummerSlam wedding reception
07:18 at the hands of Jake Roberts and Kyle with a vile smile,
07:21 Macho Man came out of retirement to take Roberts down,
07:23 but never on TV did he get to go one-on-one
07:26 with The Undertaker, holla holla.
07:27 It is mad to think about,
07:29 considering this is a main event
07:30 of WrestleMania-worthy match,
07:32 but the Macho Man and the Deadman's only-ever singles match
07:34 came in a dark match at a primetime wrestling taping in 1991.
07:38 This match seemingly could end up
07:40 in WWE's hidden gems section of the WWE Network
07:42 and thus could be disqualified from this list,
07:44 but for now, this remains a lost clash
07:47 between two of the biggest WWE stars ever.
07:49 Number three, Chris Jericho versus Shinsuke Nakamura.
07:52 Just as Chris Jericho made sure to have a big,
07:54 never-before-seen match in Japan in 2017 with KENTA,
07:57 so too did he have a match in Japan in 2016,
08:00 this time with the massively over Japanese superstar
08:03 making his mark in NXT, Shinsuke Nakamura.
08:05 Nakamura had just come off a year
08:07 where he was many people's Wrestler of the Year in 2015,
08:10 leaving New Japan for WWE after WrestleKingdom 10,
08:13 and his homecoming match was against Chris Jericho,
08:15 a match that would have seen utterly impossible
08:18 just one year earlier.
08:19 Jericho has been extremely complimentary
08:21 of this match with Nakamura,
08:22 telling Vince McMahon afterwards
08:24 that he needed to call up Nakamura to the main roster.
08:26 At one point, a WrestleMania 33 match with Nakamura
08:29 was floating by Chris Jericho
08:30 before plans changed to Kevin Owens,
08:32 but that would have given the rest of the world
08:33 the chance for Jericho to face Nakamura on a massive stage.
08:36 Right now, it seems unlikely
08:38 that we will ever get to see this match for ourselves.
08:40 Number two, The Undertaker versus Eddie Guerrero.
08:43 There were way too many dream matches left
08:45 for Eddie Guerrero to have
08:46 when he tragically passed away in November of 2005.
08:49 He was famously penciled in
08:50 to face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 22,
08:52 but another dream match that we never got to see
08:55 was the clash between Latino Heat
08:57 and the Witch King of Angmar Callaway.
08:59 Prior to The Undertaker's SummerSlam 2005 encounter
09:01 with Randy Orton, he had his one and only match
09:03 with Eddie Guerrero on a SmackDown house show
09:05 on August 1st.
09:06 Considering Eddie was going through
09:08 the messiest custody battle in human history
09:10 over his son who was destined for prison,
09:11 it should come as no surprise
09:12 that he took the fall in this match.
09:14 This is another of the sadder entries on this list
09:16 because there's no doubt that Eddie and Taker
09:18 could have produced magic together in the ring,
09:20 and not the kind of spooky bollocks magic
09:22 that The Undertaker made his name on.
09:24 This could have been one of the best matches
09:25 The Undertaker ever had at WrestleMania,
09:27 but instead it was a special treat
09:29 for the people of Poughkeepsie, New York.
09:30 Of all places, my lord, just goes to show
09:33 the biggest matches can really happen at any house show.
09:36 At number one, Kenny Omega versus AJ Styles.
09:40 There are a few times where a fate
09:41 had only swung the other way
09:43 that we would have been given the chance
09:44 to see this clash of former Bullet Club leaders.
09:46 Kenny Omega famously turned on AJ Styles,
09:49 kicking him out of Bullet Club in 2016,
09:51 but before they could have a match to pay off that angle,
09:53 AJ was on his way through the curtain
09:55 to stand toe to toe with Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble.
09:57 Then when The Elite seemed to be leaving New Japan
09:59 in late 2018, it seemed as if there was a legit possibility
10:03 the group could have made the jump to WWE
10:05 where Styles and Omega would have been
10:06 a natural WrestleMania match,
10:08 but neither of those things happened.
10:10 Instead, the only meeting between the two
10:12 came at a local indie show in Winnipeg on September 21st, 2006.
10:16 Only the people at the Lid Night Club
10:18 know just how special this match was,
10:20 but Kenny has gone on to say that it was this match
10:22 that convinced him to keep being a wrestler
10:24 following a disheartening stint in WWE Developmental,
10:27 so safe to say it was good enough to lift his spirits.
10:29 This is another match that doesn't look likely to happen
10:31 unless WWE and AEW ever wanna kick down
10:34 their iron-bolted forbidden door.
10:36 And that's our list.
10:37 If you enjoyed it and wanna see another fun list
10:38 just like it, make sure that you click the link above
10:40 to check out our list of the 10 WWE stars
10:43 you forgot competed in the Elimination Chamber.
10:45 It's stop in a big plastic box
10:47 before we can make it to the fame and glory of WrestleMania.
10:49 But sometimes people get left behind.
10:51 Sometimes you forget Grandpa in the loo
10:54 of the service station and drive off.
