00:00 Alright, life-threatening flash flooding continues across the southern tier of New York, western
00:05 Connecticut and in New York City itself where we've had major problems here this morning.
00:11 I want to show you the rainfall that we've had.
00:13 It's been a very focused and narrow band of heavy rain and whenever you're talking about
00:18 rainfall amounts of six, seven inches, that's what usually ends up happening.
00:22 It's very narrow and very focused and there it is across eastern, western parts of Nassau
00:29 County across the five boroughs, Westchester County, Rockland County, in the Fairfield
00:35 County Connecticut.
00:36 I want to show you some of the rainfalls we've seen.
00:38 We've seen a lot of places over three inches and there's been a lot of locations over five
00:42 inches of rain.
00:43 The heaviest amounts of rain thus far has been in southern Brooklyn borough here, but
00:49 a lot of locations here where we've had five, six inches of rain and major time flooding
00:54 here.
00:55 Alright, here's what's going on.
00:56 We've had this upper level low, here it is, it's across western Pennsylvania.
01:00 What it's doing is it's been like a funnel just bringing all this tropical moisture northward.
01:05 Because the upper low is so slow moving, the thunderstorms which have been oriented from
01:11 south to north have been slow to move to the east.
01:14 They've been moving from south to north as well and that's why we've had all the heavy
01:18 rain.
01:19 As we go through the rest of the afternoon, listen, we're still going to get some pockets
01:22 of heavy rain in and around New York City.
01:24 I'd say until mid-afternoon or so, but then everything's going to start shifting east.
01:28 Look out across central and eastern Long Island this afternoon and this evening.
01:32 We're going to start getting the rains across Connecticut, Rhode Island.
01:35 Now, I don't think the rains are going to be as heavy here as what we've seen in New
01:38 York City and the southern tier of New York, but there's a soaking rain coming to Boston,
01:43 to Providence, and all the way toward the Cape and the Islands as we get toward the
01:47 afternoon.
01:48 I think a lot of the rain starts to become intermittent in New York City late afternoon,
01:52 but there's going to be some rain in the air probably right until tomorrow morning.
01:57 That rain is still going to be with us in southeastern New England as well.
02:01 Some of the rainfall totals, we may need to bring that inch to two inches up toward the
02:04 Boston area, but the epicenter certainly has been around New York City with heavier rain
02:09 in central and eastern New Jersey, southern tier of New York, and western Connecticut.
02:14 By the way, we'll dry things out for the weekend and next week we have an extended period of
02:20 dry warm weather.
