Three hundred e-scooters are now available for hire in Wollongong under a 12-month trial.

00:00 Wollongong is the first CBZ centre in NSW to have this trial in place.

00:12 It's an exciting opportunity for the city, an exciting opportunity to add to the mobility

00:17 options and transport options of the city.

00:20 It's an exciting time for our city.

00:22 We've heard from our community that people want multiple modes of transport and options

00:29 to take different modes of transport and e-scooters are a sustainable transport option for people

00:35 and we'll be looking to support people that want to take an active decision into making

00:43 a sustainable transport choice.

00:44 We've also employed a team of local staff here in Wollongong so we'll be making sure

00:48 that e-scooters are parked in their correct locations.

00:50 If anything ends up where it shouldn't be we'll be straight onto it to get it corrected.

00:54 It's great to see people already out scooting embracing this new mode of transport.

00:58 It's perfectly placed a couple of weeks out from the Yours and Ours festival so I think

01:03 it'll be an easy way for people to get across to the uni for that but it'll be a great opportunity

01:07 for that last mile transport particularly around the CBD centre and what does that achieve?

01:12 Reduces the car load, reduces our carbon emissions and gives us a good addition to our transport

01:18 There's a couple of those key basics.

01:19 Wearing a helmet, making sure it's one person per e-scooter, making sure that you're following

01:23 the speed limits.

01:24 The scooter will slow down in some of the busy areas like here along the coast.

01:28 So we really want to get people to understand those rules from day one to make sure that

01:31 this trial is successful as a new mode of transport but it's also done in a way that's

01:35 really safe for the community, safe for those using e-scooters and safe for everyone else

01:39 who's sharing the path as well.
