00:00 Coming along to this charity run leisure centre in Herne Bay will be completely free throughout this Saturday,
00:06 opening its doors to encourage the community to get active or to try out something new.
00:11 Active Life puts all of the money earned from its five leisure centres in the wider Canterbury district back into its day-to-day running.
00:19 With cash prizes on offer for challenges being hosted throughout the day,
00:23 the gyms will be open for a whole range of activities, from family swim sessions
00:28 or to take part in a spin class, but you really can take it at your own pace.
00:33 The main message from Active Life is just to come down and have fun.
00:37 Meet Tony. Today was his first day in a gym just after having retired.
00:42 He tells me he's going to be quick to come back.
00:45 Got me in the gym and I thought after a few goes, I thought, you know, actually really I'm going to have to pack on and get this done, you know.
00:54 So that's why I signed up. We went swimming last week in Winston-Dawson and joined the club.
01:00 There, and here I am today. I am committed to it, I have no fear.
01:04 But yes, and I'm allergic to swimming as well, which I can't be.
01:09 It is the hardest part, is coming through that door.
01:12 If you've made that journey through that door, that's your first step.
01:15 And then our front of house team and our fitness experts will be able to help you along that journey.
01:22 Particularly if people have been out of fitness for a long time, some people are quite anxious to come back into sight.
01:28 This whole week and Saturday is about fun.
01:32 But even if getting sporty isn't your cup of tea, families are invited along for face painting, live music and community stalls.
01:40 As part of the fun day, Herons will be hosting a raffle to raise money for the Strode Park Foundation,
01:45 which cares for disabled or vulnerable children and adults throughout the county.
01:49 Some of the events we do, they're not always accessible to local communities.
01:53 And I think for us as well, it's about raising money for us, but also showing the community that you can come to these events
02:00 because they are accessible and affordable for everyone.
02:03 So I think our thing is making it affordable for the community to come,
02:07 but also giving us enough money to do the things we need to do.
02:11 Literally every little bit helps.
02:13 Any sort of event we can put on, for any sort of thing, we will do.
02:16 And we're so excited to do them all as well, aren't we?
02:19 So with families cutting costs across the board, what better than a free day out?
