The Ryder Cup in golf is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the sport with some players even being remembered just for their contributions in the competition.
After looking at Team Europe earlier in the week, we’re going across the pond to take a look at Team USA.

00:00 The Ryder Cup has become one of the world's greatest sporting events.
00:06 Every two years, 24 of the best players from Europe and the United States go head-to-head
00:12 in match play competition.
00:13 Drama, tension, incredible golf, camaraderie and sportsmanship are served in equal measure,
00:20 captivating an audience of millions around the world.
00:23 "Yeah, I mean, this is the standout of any player's career, really.
00:27 They can always go and win majors and win loads of tournaments, but some players are
00:31 really only remembered for their Ryder Cup contributions, so it's a massive part of people's
00:36 career and so forth.
00:37 I mean, golf is an individual sport and everyone plays for themselves, but you only have to
00:41 speak to the top guys here and they always go back to the Ryder Cup, they always want
00:45 to play on the European team or the American team, so it's very important to these guys'
00:50 career."
00:51 Team USA boasts a huge 13-win lead over Europe throughout the history of the Ryder Cup, with
00:56 27 successes.
00:58 However, Team USA haven't won on European soil in over 30 years since their win at Sutton
01:04 Coalfield, where they mounted an incredible comeback by winning six singles matches in
01:08 the 30th Ryder Cup.
01:10 They have huge confidence in this year's Ryder Cup after an incredible display in Wisconsin
01:16 just two years ago.
01:17 "I think that is a driving motivation for them, even when they won two years ago.
01:22 I think it was Jordan Spieth who said, 'Yeah, we've won here, but we need to go win on European
01:26 soil now.
01:27 This is important for us.
01:28 We can win in front of our home fans, but it's 30 years.
01:32 So, I mean, you look at some of the players that have been on their team during that time.
01:35 You go back, they have Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson.
01:38 How have they not managed to win on European soil?
01:41 It's baffling.
01:42 It just goes to credit to the European side that they always show up, they always play
01:47 well and they always perform in front of their home fans."
01:50 Having experienced the odd drought of a Ryder Cup win in the 20th century, they simply cannot
01:55 be written off with their ability to stage comebacks and produce some of the competition's
02:00 most remarkable individual performances.
02:04 Having also won three of the four single majors on the golfing calendar this year, they have
02:08 certainly got confidence going into Rome.
02:11 "It's going to be a driving motivation for this US team.
02:14 Slightly new look with a few new players in there.
02:17 We don't have DJ, we don't have DeChambeau and the likes of Bubba Watson or Patrick Reid.
02:22 Some of those could have easily been on the team if they weren't playing live golf.
02:25 But they have, like you say, they've got some major winners in there.
02:28 They've got Wyndham Clark, they've got Brian Harman.
02:31 They have got some very, very good players that have played exceptional golf this year.
02:35 From a European standpoint, they're coming up against three of the four major winners
02:39 and they've got the motivation of not one on European soil in such a long time.
02:43 So it should be a big challenge for them.
02:45 I'm looking forward to it."
02:46 As Team US are in Rome, aiming to end their 30-year record of not winning on European
02:53 soil with big names and characters like Jordan Spieth, Scotty Scheffler and Justin Thomas,
02:58 led by captain Zach Johnson, they're without doubt in great hands.
