00:00 You're talking to me.
00:02 I am.
00:02 Ah!
00:04 And I'm crying for a whole different reason.
00:08 Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks
00:12 for the most shocking moment from every season of The Big Bang Theory.
00:16 Amy? Amy? Amy?
00:29 For this list, we'll be looking at the good, the bad, and the bizarrely shocking moments
00:34 from each of The Big Bang's 12 awesome seasons. If you haven't finished the show, there will be
00:39 spoilers. Which one of these shocking moments has stuck with you all these years later?
00:43 Let us know in the comments.
00:45 Season 1. Raj Talks to Penny for the First Time.
00:50 The Grasshopper Experiment. Penny has been the heart of each of Raj's surprising show moments
00:56 in regard to his communications with women. Not only is she the first woman he talks to
01:01 while completely sober, she's the first non-family woman he talks to at all.
01:06 You say you can't talk to women, but you've been talking to me.
01:09 And now we'll never know.
01:10 Right? I... I am talking to you.
01:16 For the first seven episodes of the series, Raj's major character trait is his inability
01:22 to talk directly to a woman. But in episode 8, that all changes as he, while sipping on a
01:28 grasshopper, utters these six words. Where did my life go, Penny?
01:32 It's in this shocking moment that we all discover, along with Raj himself,
01:39 that alcohol is the magic elixir for his selective mutism.
01:42 Okay, now I just need to make sure I have a lolita before I meet the grasshopper.
01:50 It's a sweet green miracle.
01:52 Season 2 - The Napkin Gift and the Hug
01:56 The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis
01:58 They say it's more blessed to give than to receive. And that's definitely the case when
02:03 the reaction of the person you're giving to is as amazing as Sheldon's in the season 2 Christmas
02:09 episode.
02:10 To Sheldon, live long and prosper. Leonard Nimoy.
02:18 Not known for his emotional outbursts or his enjoyment of physical contact with other human
02:23 beings, both tendencies go out the window when Penny gives him a napkin.
02:27 Okay, it isn't just a napkin. It's a napkin used and signed by Leonard Nimoy.
02:46 We're not sure what's more shocking, the amazingly perfect gift Penny gets for her friend,
02:51 or the rare Sheldon hug that he bestows upon her in an attempt to thank her.
02:56 Season 3 - Stan Lee - The Excelsior Acquisition
03:09 In season 3's The Excelsior Acquisition, Sheldon misses out on a Stan Lee signing at the comic
03:15 bookstore because he's in court fighting a ticket that he got while driving Penny to the hospital.
03:20 Feeling bad about her role in Sheldon missing the event, Penny gets Lee's address from Stuart
03:38 and takes Sheldon to the Great Man's house. However, we hadn't seen Lee at any point in the
03:44 episode thus far, so one would be forgiven for not assuming he'd show up in this moment either.
03:49 But there he is, opening the door.
03:51 Whether you thought he'd be there or not, seeing the icon standing there in his robe
04:09 is definitely a thrill.
04:11 "I'm sorry, he doesn't really understand sarcasm."
04:14 "Well, I'll give him something he'll understand. Joni, call the police!"
04:18 "Nice to meet you."
04:19 Season 4 - Raj and Penny Sleep Together - The Roommate Transmogrification
04:27 At the end of this season finale, Penny is shocked to wake up naked in bed with Raj.
04:33 "Oh god! Okay, look, this never happened. Do you understand me?"
04:42 When we had last seen them, these two were in the midst of a fun bonding night of drinking,
04:50 laughing, and talking. While we can't speak for everyone, we certainly didn't expect Penny and
04:56 Raj's night to end in coitus. Nah, we should point out that, as we come to learn, there actually
05:02 wasn't any coitus that night. "I had trouble putting it on and you tried to help and uh...
05:08 that was all she wrote."
05:13 But that certainly doesn't take any shock value away from the morning after reveal.
05:20 "Damn." "What's going on?"
05:23 "Oh, it's not what it looks like."
05:28 Season 5 - Sheldon in the Couch - The Good Guy Fluctuation
05:32 The jump scare has been a pretty standard trope in horror movies for decades now.
05:37 "It is highly unlikely that you two rubes could ever surprise me."
05:41 "He's probably right." "We can't beat him, he's just too smart."
05:45 "Gentlemen."
05:47 And while critics might call it overused and a lazy scare technique, there's no doubt it works.
05:56 "What's with him?" "Hang on."
05:58 In season 5's The Good Guy Fluctuation, after spending the entire episode trying to get
06:10 revenge on his friends for scaring him at work, Sheldon goes all in on the jump scare. And it most
06:15 definitely lives up to its name. When he bursts out of the couch, a scared Leonard literally
06:21 jumps off his seat. We're thinking a few of you did as well. "Bazinga punk, now we're even."
06:27 Season 6 - Raj Talks to Penny Sober - The Bon Voyage Reaction
06:34 What's so great about this one is that we, as the audience, don't realize what's happening at first.
06:40 "I am unlovable." "That's just the booze talking."
06:43 "No, it's not. I haven't had a drink since last night."
06:47 Normally, the show would make a point of showing Raj taking a sip of an alcoholic beverage,
06:52 or at least have a visible bottle nearby when he'd be talking to women. But in this case,
06:57 we're so caught up in his sadness over being dumped by Lucy, that most of us probably didn't
07:02 even think about whether or not he'd been drinking when Penny shows up to see how he's doing.
07:07 "I missed her already." "I know how you feel. I miss Leonard too."
07:14 "What is wrong with me? Why can't I ever have love?"
07:18 When he says he hasn't had a drink all day, the shocking revolution really hits perfectly.
07:24 "You're talking to me." "I am."
07:26 "And I'm crying for a whole different reason."
07:31 Season 7 - The Comic Book Store Burns Down - The Status Quo Combustion
07:39 Not many good things happen to Stewart. Yes, he makes out with Penny, but she says
07:44 Leonard's name while doing so. "No, everything was good and really hot.
07:49 And I said, 'Oh, Penny.' And right where she was supposed to say, 'Oh, Stewart,' she said,
07:54 'Your name.'" Sure, he owns his own comic book store,
08:01 but according to him, it's the very opposite of a lucrative business. While there seem to be very
08:07 few best of times for Stewart Bloom, none of us would have imagined his worst of times would get
08:12 as bad as they are at the end of season 7. "What happened?"
08:15 "I was cooking in the back room last night and the hot plate caught on fire."
08:19 "And you couldn't put it out?" "I was across the street at the
08:24 do-it-yourself car wash taking a shower." When Sheldon walks into the comic book store,
08:29 his shock at seeing the fiery destruction is matched only by the sad gasp from the
08:34 studio audience and probably most of us at home as well.
08:38 "Um, I don't know. I'm waiting to hear back from the insurance company."
08:42 "So tomorrow?" "I don't mean to be rude,
08:48 Sheldon, but my life is kind of falling apart right now."
08:50 Season 8 - Howard's Mom Dies - The Comic Book Store Regeneration
08:56 As with many television shows, writers try to end seasons with big, often shocking revelations,
09:03 and The Big Bang Theory was no exception. They did it in season 8 when Leonard reveals to Penny
09:09 on their way to get married in Vegas that he kissed a girl when he was away at sea.
09:13 "It was just kissing." "And then what?"
09:16 "And then nothing. I stopped it. But it still bothers me."
09:22 In another season, that might have been the biggest surprise, but in season 8,
09:27 nothing shocked and saddened fans more than the death of Howard's mom.
09:31 "Ma took a nap. She never woke up." "Oh my god, Howard."
09:38 "I'm so sorry." We barely saw her, but Mrs. Wolowitz,
09:46 voiced by Carol Ann Suse, was a major part of the series for 8 years. But then, in November of 2014,
09:53 Suse passed away, and a few months later, so did her character on the show.
09:58 "Loving mother to all of us. We'll miss you."
10:07 Season 9 - Sheldon Doesn't Take Amy Back - The Platonic Permutation
10:13 While learning that Stewart sometimes watches Howard and Bernadette sleep is both shocking
10:18 and creepy, there's an even more surprising moment in season 9. You see, as difficult as
10:24 Sheldon and Amy's breakup is, we all knew that the couple would eventually get back together.
10:29 They just had to, right? In the 9th episode of the 9th season,
10:33 it appeared like it was finally going to happen.
10:35 "I miss this." "How can you miss a game you've never played before, silly?"
10:42 "Guess sometimes I'm silly." Sheldon and Amy go to the aquarium
10:50 together as friends on Thanksgiving, and have a really nice time. Following the outing,
10:55 Amy calls her ex and tells him that she's ready to resume their romantic relationship.
10:59 "It was. Uh, listen, I was thinking that, um, maybe I'm ready to be your girlfriend again."
11:08 But then comes the big shocker. Sheldon says no.
11:13 "I excel at many things, but getting over you wasn't one of them."
11:18 "I think I need to just be your friend."
11:22 "Okay. I understand."
11:28 Season 10 - Sheldon Proposes - The Long Distance Dissonance
11:33 Before we get to his proposal, we can't talk about season 10 without mentioning the shocking
11:38 reason why Sheldon always knocks three times. The revelation comes during a conversation between him
11:44 and Penny when he confesses to her that, as a young child, he walked in on his dad with another
11:49 woman. "That's awful." "I know. That's also why I never open a door without knocking three times.
11:55 I mean, the first one's traditional, but two and three are for people to get their pants on."
12:00 As shocking as that incident was for Sheldon, no moment in the 10th season surprised us more
12:06 than his proposal to Amy. "Will you marry me?"
12:09 From the moment Dr. Ramona Nowitzki kisses him and he walks out of his office,
12:13 we're in a constant state of wondering where he's going. Even when we hear him knock on Amy's door,
12:19 we still aren't expecting to see him down on one knee when she opens it.
12:23 "Amy? Amy? Amy?"
12:29 Season 11 - Stuart Could Have Been Rich - The Bitcoin Entanglement
12:42 In The Bitcoin Entanglement, the guys remember that they'd mined a bunch of bitcoin years earlier
12:48 and set out on a quest to find it. Retracing their steps, they eventually find the laptop
12:54 with the folder on it, only to learn that Sheldon, because they'd mined it without him,
12:58 had moved it to the Batman flash drive on Leonard's keychain.
13:02 "I've waited seven long years, but it finally happened."
13:07 "Where's our money?" "That's the best part. It's on the Batman
13:11 flash drive on your keychain." Smart move, except for the fact that
13:15 Leonard lost the keychain. "Really?
13:18 Did you look under things? Well, that is unfortunate."
13:29 Then, in a funny throwaway moment at the end of the episode, we see a flashback of Stuart
13:34 sweeping up in his store, finding the keychain, and deciding to erase the contents and sell it.
13:40 It's a funny coda, but think about it. Stuart could have been rich!

14:09 Season 12 – Sheldon's Nobel Prize Speech – The Stockholm Syndrome
14:15 There's no denying Sheldon's brilliance. He's a genius of the highest order,
14:19 and his ability to understand physics and the scientific world is second to none.
14:24 However, if there was one other thing we thought we knew about him,
14:28 it's that the only thing bigger than his intelligence is probably his ego.
14:32 "I won't forget your contributions." "Great."
14:34 "Of course, I can't mention you in my Nobel acceptance speech, but when I get around to
14:39 writing my memoirs, you can expect a very effusive footnote, and perhaps a signed copy."
14:43 For those reasons, and the fact he'd basically said it on more than one occasion,
14:49 the expectations for his Nobel Prize speech would be that it would be all about him. But it isn't.
14:55 "I was under a misapprehension that my accomplishments were mine alone."
15:01 "Nothing could be further from the truth." After Amy calls him out on his selfishness,
15:07 Sheldon seems to truly see the light. And in that light,
15:11 he sees the true value of his friends, and that's what his speech is about.
15:15 "I apologize if I haven't been the friend you deserve,
15:18 but I want you to know, in my way, I love you all."
