00:05 such systems since they first started to be implemented, and you can kind of see why.
00:09 Because while it is very nice to hear that sweet chime when you pop a trophy for doing
00:12 something cool, that is kind of undone by the arduous amounts of hours you'll have
00:17 to put in to unlock some achievements.
00:20 And we're talking about the latter today.
00:22 As I'm Jules, this is WhatCulture.com, and these are 10 Video Game Trophies That Really

00:29 Shovel Knight King of Cards – Card Completionist
00:32 Yacht Club Games created three DLC campaigns for their beloved retro-tinged platformer,
00:37 Shovel Knight.
00:38 Each of them cast the player as one of the knights of the nefarious Order of No Quarter,
00:43 providing a bit more insight into their histories and motivations along the way.
00:46 Shovel Knight King of Cards is perhaps the most expansive of all, offering not just a
00:51 wealth of new levels, but a robust card-based mini-game called Joustus.
00:55 The game is similar to the famed Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII, but instead revolves
01:00 around claiming gems on the board by pushing your own cards onto them, and, obviously,
01:04 the opponent's cards off them.
01:05 The mini-game is optional, but it is still a big focus of the narrative and some of the
01:09 levels.
01:10 There are tons of opponents to play against and many cards to collect, though claiming
01:14 the Card Completionist trophy will be quite the feat.
01:17 Not only are some of the cards played only by optional bosses who must be defeated in
01:21 order to challenge them at Joustus, but others will need to be purchased from Chester, who
01:25 offers mystery cards of different, increasingly expensive tiers.
01:29 Many doubles and a lot of gold grinding will be needed here.
01:32 Finally, a very difficult optional boss, Gigacardia, must be defeated if you want the Card Crystal,
01:38 which displays the location of all unowned cards.
01:41 This is going to take you a long time.

01:44 Bloodborne – Yharnam, Thumerian Queen
01:48 As a FromSoftware title and a spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series, there was never
01:52 any doubt that Bloodborne was going to be a tricky title to tame.
01:55 And those battling to secure a Platinum trophy faced a steep challenge indeed, with the Yharnam
02:00 Thumerian Queen gold trophy being a notable roadblock.
02:04 As with many of the game's trophies, the requirement is simply to defeat the boss of
02:07 the same name.
02:08 She's an elusive, sneaky, and difficult foe, boasting projectile blood attacks, but
02:13 the real issue lies in the journey to reach her.
02:16 The Queen is essentially the final boss of the Chalice Dungeons, located deep in the
02:20 third layer.
02:21 To reach her, you would need to spend hours in the deceptive, puzzle-laden dungeons, which
02:25 are both entirely optional, and are referred to as the Old Labyrinth for pretty apt reasons,
02:30 because it's very easy to get lost down here.
02:33 In addition, several bosses must be fought on the journey to the Queen, some of which
02:36 are much more difficult than she is herself.
02:39 All in all, this is going to take you a ton of perseverance and a lot of patience.

02:45 Metal Gear Solid 3 – Snake Eater, King of the Jungle
02:48 The Metal Gear Solid series has long provided players with a final ranking of their performance
02:52 when all is said and done.
02:54 And different criteria must be met throughout a playthrough in order to obtain some of the
02:58 ranks, and only the very best get the most elite codenames.
03:01 Metal Gear Solid 3 – Snake Eater offers the 'Markor' rank, which is the requirement
03:05 for the 'King of the Jungle' trophy.
03:07 As the name suggests, this requires an in-depth knowledge of the game's vast jungle setting
03:11 – every type of plant and animal must be found and located.
03:15 Naturally, this includes those pesky medicinal plants and the elusive 'Tsuchinoko', which
03:20 both makes the trophy missable and your progress rather difficult to keep track of.
03:24 As one final little trick, it's also necessary to score at least one kill and raise one alert.
03:29 Such is the tricky nature of these ranks and their unlock conditions.

03:34 Super Street Fighter IV – Trial Athlete
03:36 Those who are truly dedicated to fighting games will have surely spent countless hours
03:41 in the lab with their fighter of choice, practising combos, spacing, cancels, and all manner of
03:45 other technical aspects.
03:47 To help with this, the game offers options a little more robust than a simple training
03:51 mode against an idle CPU character.
03:54 These come in the form of Trials, challenges that push you to perform an increasingly difficult
03:58 manoeuvre and/or combo.
04:00 They're character-specific, meaning that each cast member has 24 Trials, and some are
04:04 fiendishly difficult.
04:06 And of course, Street Fighter IV insists that you complete them all for its Trial Athlete
04:10 Trophy.
04:11 The sheer number of these Trials is beyond daunting, seeing as there are 35 fighters
04:15 to master in this way, meaning you're going to have to put in the grind if you're going
04:18 to want to pop that trophy.

04:21 Far Cry 6 – Oh No You Don't
04:24 Those seeking to nab all of Far Cry 6's trophies will have to contend with a rather
04:28 pesky gaming mechanic – time-gating.
04:30 The Oh No You Don't trophy may not sound all that tricky, as some challenges go, but
04:35 it's important to consider what this will actually entail.
04:37 For starters, these missions are no cakewalk, only being accessible after completing the
04:42 campaign.
04:43 Insurgencies see a given leader take over a section of the map for one week, and the
04:47 objectives associated with that insurgency must be completed before they can change again.
04:52 Real-time deadlines are a rarity that even the most nefarious trophies don't tend to
04:56 deal in, and this time-consuming mechanic only makes it worse.
04:59 Essentially, however adept a Far Cry 6 player you are, it will take three weeks of play
05:04 to unlock this trophy.
05:05 As the third leader won't even be accessible until then.

05:10 Resistance 2 – Killing Machine
05:11 There's a vital caveat to this entry.
05:14 For you see, Resistance 2's servers have been shut down, making this trophy now permanently
05:18 inaccessible.
05:20 Those who tried to acquire it during the game's online heyday, however, will remember just
05:23 how daunting it could be.
05:25 Online FPS titles are some of the longest living around.
05:28 Titles like Overwatch are still going strong – not as strong, of course, but still very
05:32 strong after many years, with players racking up incredible stats in terms of hours spent,
05:37 kills scored, and so on.
05:38 Resistance 2 seemed to be counting on this with its Killing Machine trophy, that demanded
05:42 a total of 10,000 kills in online play – not just any online play, but competitive ranked
05:48 matches.
05:49 Now, the ranked modes of such titles are often not a fun place to be at all, and depending
05:52 on your skill level, this could be a long, endlessly frustrating slog simply for one
05:57 gold trophy.

05:59 Grand Theft Auto V – Career Criminal
06:01 It's remarkable to think just how popular Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online
06:07 still are.
06:08 This is primarily due to the robust support that Rockstar has given the game since its
06:11 September 2013 release.
06:13 At the time of its launch, it was an open world experience on an almost unprecedented
06:17 scale, and crossing its map, by means of whichever ill-gotten vehicle you happened to be in at
06:21 the time, was a feat in itself.
06:23 Such a large world, however, meant that a lot of content had to be provided to fill
06:27 it, which is where the rather tricky Career Criminal comes in.
06:30 Completing 100% of the game is a very daunting prospect, but this is how the trophy is unlocked.
06:35 The requirements included completing every story mission, all the street races and sea
06:39 races, all strangers and freaks missions, and a ton more, but not quite everything.
06:44 Possible bugs blight this trophy as well, and the fact that it's a little unclear
06:48 as to what is needed makes it all the more frustrating.

06:51 Pac-Man 256's Multiplied Mayhem Trophy
06:55 Pac-Man is one of the most iconic video games ever, a concept that has been taken and adapted
07:00 by countless other titles over the years.
07:02 But the original series itself continues to riff on and modify its own formula.
07:07 Some constraints remain, though.
07:08 Those pesky ghosts will always be the bane of Pac-Man's existence, and their spawns
07:11 will always be trickily timed.
07:13 And obviously the power pill will always run out at the most inopportune moment.
07:16 And Pac-Man 256 hit PlayStation 4s in 2016, featuring a devious trophy that plays on all
07:22 of these issues.
07:24 Multiplied Mayhem requires players to reach a x16 multiplier from ghosts with a single
07:28 power pellet, while also playing in single player.
07:31 And as you can imagine, seeing as the ghosts are trying to get away from you when you're
07:35 in this state, means that you're going to have to have a lot of luck on your side.
07:38 There's a significant saving grace in that the power pellet can be reset by collecting
07:42 another while the current one is still in progress, but depending on the state of play,
07:46 this can really take some doing.

07:48 Call of Duty Modern Warfare's Mile High Club Trophy
07:51 Call of Duty fans will surely be adept at the series' gripping high-octane action.
07:56 Timing, positioning, and a steady aim are key to success in this iconic series.
08:00 And one particular challenge pushes these qualities more than any other - the Mile High
08:05 Club trophy that can be attained in Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
08:09 This trophy requires you to skydive to safety on Veteran difficulty, which demands a perfect
08:14 run through a very difficult section on an aeroplane to rescue one hostage.
08:18 You have just 60 seconds to complete this mission, and are beset by enemies with even
08:22 the slightest mistake, meaning that you're going to have to try again.
08:25 Attempts are very short, but this only heightens the frustration as you try again and again
08:29 in quick succession.
08:30 It's the sort of thing that requires the pattern memorisation and practice of a classic
08:34 Mega Man boss.
08:35 1.
08:36 Dragon Age Origins' Blight Queller
08:39 Across the RPG genre, it's common to want to avoid battles at some times.
08:43 But Dragon Age Origins players won't have that luxury if they're shooting for the
08:47 game's Blight Queller trophy.
08:48 To achieve this, 1,000 Darkspawn must be killed.
08:51 And this troublesome trophy is quite time-consuming at best, and a bug-ridden exercise in futile
08:56 frustration at worst.
08:57 According to PSN Profiles, only Darkspawn killed directly by the player as the protagonist
09:02 count.
09:03 There aren't an awful lot more than 1,000 Darkspawn in the game during any given playthrough,
09:07 though, meaning that exploiting and reloading saves is one of the only reliable manners
09:11 of hitting this goal.
09:13 But even this is tentative, though, as it seems that the count carries over to future
09:17 saves.
09:18 But the trophy is bugged, and its requirements are rather steep, meaning that this can be
09:20 very hit and miss, even though you need to hit quite a lot.
