Critics generally considered The Cradle of Life to be better than its predecessor, especially in terms of its action sequences and continued to commend Angelina Jolie's portrayal of Lara Croft. However, the film did not achieve the same level of box office success as the previous instalment, grossing $156 million compared to its predecessor's $275 million. Nonetheless, it was still considered a financial success. Initially, plans were made for a sequel, but these plans were abandoned when Jolie decided not to return as Lara Croft.
