00:00 Well Paige Money who wears white with silver trim has got pretty much everyone in the arena
00:14 supporting her by the sounds of things. The 28 year old from Leicester operating in the
00:21 lightweight division, very talented amateur, takes centre of the ring very very quickly,
00:25 snaps out that jab straight away in against the more experienced Brazilian Helena de Santos,
00:32 who wears the black and gold, but Murney goes straight to work controlling matters and moving
00:39 the heavy de Santos around the ring, little smile from the Brazilian, first visit to UK shores,
00:47 but a lot of excitement around Paige Murney. I know her manager Dave Colwell who's here tonight,
00:53 I think she can make a real impact in the women's game, she's got that experience as an amateur,
01:00 you know all about that Lee McGregor, you've been in those setups, GB in English set up down the road
01:06 in Sheffield and then turning pro and just a second professional fight, but a lot of excitement about
01:12 her. Yep and she's had a good confident start, she's come out on the front foot, popping that
01:17 jab out like you said, what I'm also impressed with as well, she's cutting the ring off well,
01:21 she's not just following de Santos around like in a circle, like she'll take an L step after each
01:27 time, reset herself like just as on cue there and she's just cutting the ring off well like I said,
01:34 yeah so it's a good positive start. That's good work in that corner from Murney as well,
01:41 good hooks to the body, finished off with this shot to the head and de Santos is just edging
01:48 backwards and Murney just doing what she wants with her really at the moment.
01:51 Again it's all pretty much one-way traffic and very ragged work from de Santos as Murney goes
02:07 to work again, much to the joy and jubilation really of everybody here and again just it's
02:14 all one-way traffic as she's stuck in the corner de Santos. That was a really impressive opener,
02:22 I really really liked the way she was cutting that ring off, you see a lot especially the fighters
02:27 early on in their career, their ring generalship isn't the best, it takes a lot of fights to get
02:32 that ring generalship and cut the ring off a bit better, cut your opponent, especially fighters
02:38 like de Santos who's kind of just got to be on the move, just wanting to kind of survive in there.
02:43 Whereas Murney's not really giving her a chance, she's cutting the ring off so she'll be on her
02:49 bike, she won't follow her, she'll take an L-step, she'll get her against the ropes and she'll hammer
02:53 away like we're seeing here, it's a very good positive start. Well de Santos arrives here with
03:00 a winning record 14 wins, she's stopped nine of her opponents, she has lost nine times, she's been
03:05 stopped twice, a couple of draws on the record, she's boxed all over the place, not here but
03:11 everywhere throughout Europe, very very well traveled around Central and South America but
03:16 she was clearly outclassed in that opening round, this schedule for six two-minute rounds.
03:22 Murney again just works the jab well now, again as she did in the opening round, just has de Santos on her bike.
03:35 Yes starting off this round just as she finished the last round but de Santos is enjoying herself as well, she's been waving her in.
03:46 But I wonder how long she will wave her in for because Murney quite fancies that challenge.
03:54 And again good shots, hooks to the body, goes to work, a little flurry of activity from Murney again as de Santos
04:04 just clinging on. You see it as well after each clinch every time whenever there's a
04:10 a clinch or they're in close, Murney's desperate to get back into the centre of the ring, she's controlling the ring really really well.
04:31 And she's just stalking her prey at the moment Murney and again just gets to work.
04:36 Was the odd shot coming back from de Santos but...
04:53 Yeah but you can tell Murney's experienced, you can see that the amateur background GB, meddled at Commonwealth Games but you can completely see why.
05:04 She's a very skilled fighter, very clever, very smart, composed, not over eager, not trying too hard.
05:14 Good positive opening two rounds for her, well in control.
05:22 Well de Santos to her credit still looks composed and as you mentioned before she looks like she's kind of enjoying this, I mean she's not really having any success.
05:32 Yeah no she's not but she's not obviously knows how, she's got a winning record, she's here, she knows what she's doing, she's comfortable enough in there.
05:42 Murney is in total control of course but de Santos like you said there is enjoying this as well, she's not in any bother where she looks like she's going to be in trouble of getting stopped but like I said Murney's in well full control of the fight.
05:57 Yeah and hasn't been active, I mean she's been in with Eva Wallstrom the former world champion of course who lost the belts to Terry Harper but after that fight, that was back in 2014, she had a six year break from boxing de Santos.
06:10 Came back, she had a couple of fights since then but very very inactive, only a couple of fights in the last few years so.
06:15 Yeah I think it's good matchmaking from Murney's team, she's 1 and 0, obviously 28 wants to be pushed quite quickly, de Santos like you said being in with former world champions,
06:31 you're not just going to come in here and blow her away, you're going to have to work and she's doing that, she's breaking her down nice and boxing smart and boxing well and like we said de Santos coming back with a odd shot every now and again and keeping Murney switched on.
06:55 She's trying wide hooks right and left but it's almost like eyes closed and swing at times really from de Santos and Murney is just, she's reading them, straight shots down the middle.
07:07 Yeah Murney's totally composed and relaxed as well so she can see everything coming, little step back, make de Santos fall short and then she's on top of it again with that relentless pressure.
07:18 And as you can see as the fight will go down, as the fight goes de Santos will start to slow down and she will start holding her feet and Murney will probably have more success and start letting in body shots on that goal even more so.
07:32 You can see what de Santos is looking for here, holding that lead hand out, she wants to wing that right hook in but Murney's too smart for that, breaking up her rhythm every time, catching her jab and just stalking her.
07:43 Very well educated performance.
07:48 Good hooks to body again, little complaint from de Santos but I think she's maybe not having so much fun anymore in there.
07:53 No definitely not, like you said there she's been on the move a lot as well, she'll start to slow down, she'll start holding her feet more and Murney will start landing the shots even more and taking more out of de Santos.
08:07 As an educated performance from Murney, she's slowly but surely breaking her down each round.
08:13 It'll be interesting to get Murney's view on two minutes or three minute rounds, I get the feeling that she likes to work her way into a three minute round maybe with Soutar, the way that she fights.
08:27 She looks like that type of fighter and she's very efficient with her work, she'll not waste too many punches, every shot she's thrown is near enough landing and she's varying the power, she's not loading up with any of her shots, she'll catch, she'll step back, she'll reset.
08:45 Back in the center of the ring when de Santos is up against the ropes, holding her feet, she'll then let her hands go.
08:52 When the distance opens back up, she'll take a little skip over, relax, get her breather and then she'll go to work again, composed.
09:00 And like you said there she could do three minutes easy at this pace, she's at a comfortable pace, she's fighting at a pace where she's comfortable at and that's key for a fighter's development.
09:10 You want to be in there with these type of level of opponents like de Santos, no disrespect, where you feel like you could be in there all night, that's the way you want to be because then when you go into them championship fights and when you do have to dig deep, you can't do that also.
09:26 But you don't want to be doing that against opponents like de Santos when you've got Murney's talent and you want to go as far as what I'd imagine Paige Murney wants to go.
09:36 When you hear stories about Paige Murney inspiring very very talented fighters already and causing all sorts of problems, so there'll be a lot of confidence from that, from those spars.
09:49 And you can see it put to action now in just her second professional contest.
09:58 And when she does get a bit of success with de Santos, when she's in the corner up against the ropes, she won't smother her work, she'll take a little reset, a little two step and she'll cut her off the ring again and she'll get her against the ropes and then she'll go to work again.
10:11 A very clinical, educated performance.
10:15 Picking her shots really nice, like you see there, stalking over, cutting the ring off, not really giving de Santos a way out really.
10:27 Yep, she'll step across.
10:29 She's cut the ring off brilliantly in these first four rounds.
10:39 Yep, de Santos starting to feel these shots now as well.
10:44 And like you said, they're going on three minute rounds or ten rounds, a championship fight.
10:50 I'd probably pick Murney to maybe even stop de Santos.
10:54 I know she's only been stopped twice in her career, that would be a statement, but she's slowly but surely breaking her down.
11:01 But she's doing it in an educated way.
11:11 It has been a very, very dominant performance.
11:15 That's probably an understatement from Paige Murney as we end the fourth round.
11:20 This scheduled for six.
11:22 And de Santos is a cool character, she still looks quite composed and hasn't had any success really whatsoever.
11:31 Nah, she's a tough girl though, you can see that.
11:34 Murney's been relentless from the opening round.
11:39 De Santos is stuck in there.
11:42 Yeah, she's taking Murney's shots and she is firing back every now and again as well.
11:50 You've got to give her credit.
11:52 But you can just see with Paige Murney's little step backs, she knows when de Santos is going to fire back.
12:00 She'll take a little step back, make a miss and then she'll be on top of it again.
12:03 Like I said, it's educated pressure.
12:08 Impressive as well, her debut December 2021.
12:12 Nothing last year whatsoever, so she's more than getting rid of the cobwebs and in an impressive fashion as well.
12:20 Straight back into the center of the ring, round five.
12:26 On the front foot, I don't think she's took a backward step, that's right.
12:36 It should be a fabulous addition to the lightweight division.
12:41 De Santos, just a little bit of gamesmanship.
12:46 Good work again from Murney, catches the Brazilian and just races after her.
12:57 Yeah, got a little bit excited, Murney.
12:59 I really like what I'm seeing with how patient she's been and how educated she is,
13:04 beaming for pressure, I'd like to see her keep doing that.
13:06 I know the rounds are ticking by and she's nearly at the end of the fight,
13:09 she'll be wanting to make a statement and take de Santos out,
13:12 but it's more impressive with how patient she's been and how much she's breaking her down each round.
13:19 And I think that's what she's focused more on here because you think in long term,
13:24 these championship fights, this was to start going seven, eight rounds.
13:27 Murney probably would get rid of de Santos if she doesn't get rid of her in the six rounds.
13:33 Well, de Santos just hanging on a bit, it's been good, educated pressure again from Murney.
13:39 De Santos is blowing in there now as well, really feeling the heat under the lights here at the Mars Center,
13:44 on the edge of Leicester City Centre, really good venue,
13:47 really she's just looking ragged in there now, the Brazilian.
13:51 Looks like she's completely run out of steam.
13:53 Yeah, as to patience, I've been really impressed with her.
13:57 She's just slowly but surely broke her down each round.
14:01 Not got carried away at all, Will, because she's had lots of success.
14:05 But she stayed composed, she stayed patient.
14:08 It's been a very good performance.
14:12 And again, what a weary looking Helena de Santos from Bahia in Brazil
14:29 takes away to the stall.
14:31 One more round remaining.
14:34 De Santos blowing very heavily and it's not surprising really,
14:48 because Murney has picked her off and made her,
14:52 or used the ring to say the least.
14:57 [MUSIC]
14:59 It's probably a fairly awkward customer to fight anyway, De Santos,
15:10 because she's a little bit ragged and all over the place.
15:14 It's hard to pin her down, I suppose, really.
15:17 Yeah, you're right, she is.
15:19 Very awkward style, very hard to look good against, yet Paige Murney has done that.
15:23 I've been really impressed with what I've seen.
15:26 It's been a very well educated performance.
15:28 Slowly but surely by each round she's broke her down.
15:32 And obviously she's going to, I'd imagine, empty the tank here and try and get rid of her.
15:36 But again, like I said, I'd like to see her stay as patient as she has been
15:40 in the previous five rounds.
15:42 Because if this was a ten round contest, I have no doubts in my mind
15:46 that she would get rid of her.
15:48 And that's what Murney should be looking at.
15:50 The championship fights after this, title fights.
15:53 I'd imagine she'll want to push on and start getting involved in title fights very soon.
15:58 Going on this performance, she's not far away from titles at all, in my opinion.
16:03 Well, impressive shot selection as well.
16:10 The jabs work really well and the hooks to the body.
16:17 And there's been a few wild overhand rights and lefts thrown back from the Brazilian.
16:24 But Murney has read them well and has never been in any kind of trouble whatsoever.
16:28 As dominant a display as you will see.
16:33 For sure, De Santos is just doing her best to try and see this final bell out now.
16:40 It's been a hard night for her.
16:42 Murney has been relentless from the first round.
16:47 Going back on what you said earlier on, I think she would love three minute rounds.
16:52 She's got some engine.
16:54 She's boxed at a really high pace.
16:56 And like you said, she's been inactive.
16:58 She's not fought for a while.
16:59 It's been a very good performance.
17:01 And this will do her the world of good.
17:03 And I'd imagine she'll want to be as active as she can now after this.
17:07 And push on, like you said, and hopefully challenge for some titles.
17:13 She gets good sparring now at Unity Gym as well.
17:17 Some of the lads in there.
17:19 And as I mentioned before, she's been doing the rounds as well.
17:24 And that was an excellent performance by De Santos.
17:26 Was so weary in his last two or three rounds.
17:31 But that was all to do with the pressure and the skill set of Paige Murney.
17:37 The 28-year-old from Leicester who, without doubt, has scored a shutout victory here tonight.
17:44 And will march on to 2-0 in her professional career.
17:48 And it's going to be another win for the Unity Boxing Gym.
17:50 But overall, an impressive show, Lee.
17:53 Very impressive.
17:54 You can see why she's won silver at the Commonwealth Games.
17:58 She's a well-decorated amateur.
18:00 Comes from a GB background.
18:02 Knows her way around the ring.
18:05 Cut the ring off brilliantly.
18:06 I was really impressed with her ring generalship, that full fight.
18:09 Not many fighters you see, remember, she's only 1-0.
18:14 To be that composed, that patient.
18:17 Again, in front of her home crowd.
18:19 Not been in the ring for a while.
18:21 We've seen in the previous bouts, some fighters coming out a bit too eager, a bit too keen.
18:26 She was relaxed in there, she was patient.
18:29 She boxed really well.
18:30 I was very impressed with that performance.
18:32 Well, just applying a little bit of ice to the face of Paige Murdy.
18:37 I can't think of her taking anything too clean, Lee.
18:39 There were a few wild shots thrown back from De Santos.
18:43 But I don't think she'll be complaining anyway, if there's a little bit of swelling.
18:47 No, let's not forget as well, De Santos come here with a winning record.
18:51 Been in with former world champions and that, like you said.
18:54 So, she definitely knew her way around the ring.
18:57 And she was fine in the ring.
18:59 She definitely knew her way around the ring.
19:01 She was fighting back every now and again, but Paige Murdy was in total control.
19:05 From the opening bell to the last.
19:08 As you said, she dealt superbly with that very, very awkward style.
19:12 Well, I think we're ready to get the official results from our scoring referee, Christopher Deena.
19:20 And that result is now with our MC Huss.
19:24 Ladies and gentlemen, after six rounds of boxing, we go to the referee scorecard.
19:29 Referee Christopher Deena scores the bout, 16 to 54.
19:34 And your winner, Paige Murdy!
19:41 Well, it could only be a shutout and that's exactly what it was.
19:48 Paige Murdy is victorious, winning every round according to the referee, Chris Deena.
