00:00 Wow!
00:02 Well, with each contest here at the York Hall, the temperature's rising, literally.
00:20 The fan bases are packing themselves in and the noise levels are rising.
00:25 Robert Caswell has a great fan base with him tonight from Chatham and Kent.
00:29 He's 5-0 as a professional, wears the multicoloured shorts tonight, mainly predominantly black.
00:35 Looking to extend that unbeaten record in and against the very experienced Christian
00:43 Narvaez, who is a very seasoned professional, very well known on these shores and usually
00:50 extremely durable.
00:52 He has 17 wins to his name, 59 defeats, 6 draws, only been stopped twice, only been
00:57 stopped once in the UK in all that time that he's been campaigning over here as well.
01:01 The man wearing the black with silver panels.
01:03 But what can Robert Caswell show us?
01:06 This 22-year-old, who's looking to make a big statement here tonight.
01:14 Again alongside me, a man that knows all about the York Hall, he knows all about those big
01:18 nights as well, British Commonwealth, European title fights, is Lee McGregor.
01:22 Lee, when you're in against an opponent like Narvaez, who again we see so often on these
01:27 shores and can be so frustrating in a fight, what is the best advice you can give to a
01:32 young fighter like Caswell?
01:34 He's 5-0, he's in the gym every day, I can imagine he's in a good gym, Adam Martin, he's
01:39 got a good team.
01:40 Go in there and do what you've been doing in the gym, practice what you've been practicing
01:45 in the gym, enjoy yourself.
01:47 Don't go out there trying to impress crowds and trying to knock this guy out.
01:52 Like you said, I've seen this guy so many times, one of the most durable journeymen
01:56 out there.
01:57 You go in there and work on what you've been working on in the gym, and most importantly
02:01 enjoy yourself.
02:02 Another step in the ladder on your career to hopefully push on and eventually be involved
02:08 in some big fights.
02:09 But I think the most important thing to say to Caswell at this stage of his career is
02:15 enjoy yourself.
02:16 If they do, they need to go in and they need to enjoy it.
02:18 There's nothing better than being under them bright lights in front of your friends, family.
02:24 Just going through the motions, doing everything you've been doing in the gym, it's the best
02:28 feeling in the world, it really is.
02:33 First fight of the year for him as well, so a little bit of inactivity.
02:40 Last fight out in November against Kvitsa Kigleshvili, not a six-rounder like this one
02:46 is tonight.
02:52 Yeah these guys, Narvaez especially, they know exactly what to do.
02:56 They go in there, they let these prospects work on what they need to be working on, get
03:02 in there and get out and move on to, I wouldn't be surprised if he's back in the ring next
03:08 week.
03:09 He's a very busy, I feel like I see this guy every show I'm at in the UK.
03:16 Well, you're not probably every other one.
03:20 Yeah, and also you've got to respect these guys because the fighters and the champions
03:27 that we see in the UK now wouldn't, I believe, be in these positions that they are today
03:31 if it wasn't for these guys, so huge credit for them.
03:35 Well Narvaez was out just a couple of weeks ago, he was out pointed by Jimmy Lee, so yeah
03:40 he does box pretty much every couple of weeks on these shows.
03:43 He's based in Venice now, the Nicaraguan, but he's pretty much here all the time it
03:48 would seem.
03:49 In terms of an opening round, I think Caswell was doing pretty much what you said you should
03:52 do, just get in there, practice what you were doing in the gym, try and enjoy it, don't
03:56 play to the ground.
03:57 Yeah, 100%.
03:58 You go in there and do what you've been working on Jimmy, it's all about progress at this
04:02 stage of your career, and each little fight is another step on the ladder to get involved
04:08 in big fights.
04:10 Practice what you've been practicing in the gym, and I'd imagine Caswell will be in the
04:16 gym next week, maybe a week off, and keeping on building from this.
04:36 Just working the jab well Caswell.
04:40 Using that jab to measure the distance, Narvaez just slinging a few in Caswell's direction
05:00 as well as he tends to do, can be a really awkward night's work as we've alluded to.
05:19 Like you see him mix up the timing of the jab, Caswell's jab is the same timing of the
05:24 time, a little feint or double jab, just a little bit more variation, that's better,
05:29 and he came back with an uppercut and left hook there, not just a single jab every time.
05:33 Right on cue as I've said it, he's mixing the shots up and putting a couple of combinations
05:39 together, that's better work.
05:42 Sometimes if you're doing that same pace jab every time, obviously Narvaez will not make
05:47 him pay for that, but the more he goes up in levels, if he's throwing that same pace,
05:52 same time jab every time, more experienced fighters will clock on to that and make him
05:58 pay, that's why you use these guys to practice these things on and get better.
06:08 He is looking relaxed in there isn't he, just a little word with his corner there as well,
06:11 taking on the information.
06:16 Yeah that's what it's all about, especially early on in the career, you want to be going
06:20 in there and realistically with guys like Narvaez you want to be coming out of them
06:25 fights able to go in and do another 4 or 5 rounds, you shouldn't be fighting at a pace.
06:34 A guy like, no disrespect Narvaez, but you feel like you've left absolutely everything
06:38 in the tank, I think it's key to manage the rounds and yeah, practice, get better, do
06:48 what you've been doing in the gym, let's put the practice live under the bright lights,
06:53 pick your shots and as you can see with Caswell he's doing that, he's relaxed, he's not loading
06:57 up, he's not eager, he's not trying to knock Narvaez out with every punch, because that's
07:04 when you will fatigue and that's when you will struggle to manage and go through the
07:08 rounds, so it's a mature performance, he's picking his shots well and he's doing what
07:14 he needs to be doing, it's more progress under his belt, more experience.
07:20 I think the corner have done their homework as he would have done as well, they know what
07:24 they're getting here tonight, as you say measured, mature, not loading up on anything, not rushing,
07:31 there's no eagerness there, or over eagerness I should say, he wants to do a good job, of
07:38 course he does, but with that crowd behind him it can get very giddy, he's been out of
07:43 the ring a while as well.
07:49 Very old head on those 22 year old shoulders then for him.
07:54 Yeah, picking his shots well, I haven't seen him load up once, it's exactly what you want
07:59 to see, because no matter how good you are, if you're going out there and you're trying
08:06 to load up with every single shot, especially with a guy like Narvaez, he will, he'll just
08:11 make you look stupid, that's why you need to be smart, efficient with your work, exactly
08:17 what Caswell is doing.
08:19 You mentioned the work that he's doing in the gym, how about yourself, I know you've
08:23 been in the gym yourself, how are things ticking over for you, I know you're desperate to get
08:27 in there yourself.
08:28 Yeah, no, going well, I'm currently helping Lee Wood out in preparation for his big massive
08:35 rematch as world title with Mauricio Lara, we had some great sparring this last week,
08:40 some good rounds today, I'm ready to go myself, I should have news for everyone in the next
08:45 week but I'm very excited to get back in the ring and push on and I want to win some more
08:49 titles.
08:50 Does just being this close ringside just make you want it even more?
08:56 Yeah, 100%, every time I come here I just, I would get in there tonight if I had the
09:02 chance.
09:03 I know you're moving up in weight, but you're not lightweight yet.
09:06 Nah, not yet, one day I wouldn't be surprised if I finished my career off at lightweight.
09:11 Yeah for sure, I've got the frame to go up through the weights.
09:15 Crazy to even think of bantamweight, just crazy.
09:17 It'll be an exciting future.
09:20 Yeah.
09:21 You can see Robert Caswell still looking at the corner, taking in the information from
09:27 Adam Martin as he's giving those orders, good hook to the body there, good solid work.
09:35 First two rounds, routine in the bag for Robert Caswell.
09:44 Again exactly why they make their money and they make every penny, because he comes back
09:52 now and again, they're so key for the development of these young fighters, these guys like Narvaez.
10:00 They really are.
10:08 You don't want to be that man as well when there is one of these road warriors who just
10:12 really is on it and really fancies it, you've got to be on your metal just in case you find
10:17 the man in the opposite corner in that mood.
10:19 Because you know these guys, they're skilled, they're so skilled, they don't get the credit
10:23 because you can't do what they do unless you are super skilled and know what you're doing.
10:28 We've seen it many times, many times sometimes they pull off a massive upset, that's why
10:35 fighters like Caswell, you need to be switched on every second, every round.
10:39 Although you're going through the motions, you're working on what you've been working
10:42 on in the gym, it's a routine, night at the office, you're expected to go in there and
10:47 win, but it's how you win, it's how you look.
10:50 And like you just said there, sometimes these guys can come up with odd upsets so you need
10:56 to be switched on.
11:09 Again another one with good support behind him, he's managed these two rounds well, maybe
11:15 he's getting the pace has slightly went up in this last round here but still in full
11:22 control, just thought he worked out slightly higher pace that round than the previous two.
11:29 At the halfway stage of this contest and well it's all gone the way of Robert Caswell.
11:48 He's got the potential.
12:15 Yeah and he looks, again looks like he's got the frame, like you were just saying about
12:19 myself, he looks like he's got the frame to go up through the weights as his career goes
12:23 on and the older he gets and the more he matures.
12:29 Good work again down the pike from Caswell, he's finding a little gap between the guard
12:42 of Narvaez.
12:52 Showing a little sign of frustration there as Narvaez closed the gap and Smollett, Smollett
12:58 the work there, it's again a whole part of the tricks to get through these rounds.
13:23 Good little burst from Caswell, little rink between the two men as well.
13:26 Yeah he's starting to put a little bit more in his shots this round, he knows it's the
13:31 last round, he's got excited fans.
13:35 I was just saying we've through six rounds, my mistake, I thought this was a four rounder
13:40 so yeah, it's a six round fight.
13:44 He needs to be careful with the way he paces this, I know he's going up through the gears
13:48 now, letting his shots go a bit more, still in full control.
13:54 Still a couple of six rounders already so he has gone through that, you know measuring
14:02 the rounds if you like, measuring what you've got in the tank and managing them.
14:12 Showing a little bit there, again Narvaez just reminding Caswell, got to be on his guard
14:25 at all times with this fella.
14:27 Good jab again, there was double that jab up a couple of times and then ends on the
14:33 hook.
14:34 The jab has been quite impressive from Caswell tonight.
14:37 Yeah he's worked well behind his jab, especially the first two rounds everything was at a very
14:43 comfortable pace, he was in total control, coming towards the end of round four still
14:48 in well full control but you can tell he's now starting to put a little bit more pressure
14:52 on Narvaez now and the pace is going up a little bit.
14:56 Which is fine if he can maintain it, again it's another key for him going forward in
15:02 his career that he will experience and learn from that how he managed these six rounds.
15:09 Going and pushing on and moving on to his next fight, he will use this to his advantage
15:15 to manage the rounds even better in his next fight.
15:18 Good work to the body again from Caswell, just has the final say in that round as well.
15:27 Yeah he's going through the gears well here, that was the end of round four he's definitely
15:30 picking up, my mistake I thought this was four rounds but no we're going into round
15:36 five and he's definitely, he's stepping up nicely, managing round 12 so far.
15:43 Yeah very comfortable in the ring Robert Caswell, it'll be interesting again to watch his development.
16:00 There's a lot to like about him as a fighter.
16:03 Yeah he's, for him being a tall fighter he's quite comfortable up and close as well, I
16:11 like seeing that in a tall fighter, sometimes when you see a tall fighter you think everything's
16:16 going to be long and at range but there's nothing better and there's nothing more exciting
16:20 than seeing a tall fighter being able to fight up close.
16:25 Caswell showing that he can do that also.
16:30 So the penultimate round, this one's scheduled for sixes.
16:36 He likes to sometimes turn that jab into a hook around the guard of Narvaez Caswell.
16:43 Very keen on the left uppercut at the minute, trying to land it a couple of times, just
16:53 slightly shy of the market.
16:57 Nice shots that was, yep his variation was a lot better there as well, he was going up,
17:10 uppercut left hook, touch, touch and then whipping the good heavy shot down to the body
17:15 downstairs, it's good work like I said in the previous fight as well, sorry the fight
17:20 before 4-0 was the variation of the punches and the variation of the power, can't remember
17:27 the boys name that got the devastating knockout, yeah Weber, Kane, like I was explaining it's
17:34 key to vary your power, especially with these guys because that's when you all create openings
17:40 and opportunities.
17:41 Yep the only thing we saw from Martin Furrow was a one-two and that was it, that's true,
17:46 it was a shame in a way, it would be nice to see a bit more of him but it's been a good
17:51 performance from Robert Caswell, again as you say it was like he was listening to you
17:55 at the start when you said do what you've been practising in the gym, pick the shots,
18:00 use the variation because that's what he's been doing, he has been doing just that, knows
18:04 exactly what he's in against tonight, I think that's clear.
18:07 Yep and like I said he looks like he's enjoying himself and that's exactly what he should
18:12 be doing, again picking his shots lovely, you can tell it's obviously he is, he's taking
18:19 the work from he's doing in the gym with his coaches, that's what it's all about, bringing
18:24 it into fight night live and doing it, because sometimes you can see fighters they'll prepare
18:29 so well in the gym and sometimes they just come under the bright lights on fight night
18:33 and just completely freeze and everything that they've been working on in the gym for
18:37 months just goes out the window but you can see with Caswell he's boxing well, he's boxing
18:44 smart and I'm sure him and his coaches will be happy enough with this performance.
18:51 As will his supporters because I think fighters sometimes are under the impression that they
18:55 feel the pressure to knock out everybody for the fans, they don't care, they're enjoying
19:00 this, they're having a pint and they're watching it and they just want to see their man with
19:04 their arm raised at the end, those big exciting fights will come down the line, they just
19:08 want to see him continue his path and that's what he's doing tonight perfectly well.
19:12 This is exactly what tonight is all about for Caswell, going in there enjoying himself
19:17 looking good and like you just said there, there's going to be more entertaining, exciting
19:22 nights and I can imagine he's, well for sure most definitely going to be involved in more
19:27 exciting fights than this for his fans, but like you said they'll enjoy seeing this, it's
19:32 another step in the ladder in his career to push on, more experienced games and he's ticking
19:40 all the boxes.
19:41 Well the amount of lightweights that we're watching tonight, we've got more to come of
19:44 course as well, it'd be nice in a way to just round up all these really interesting and
19:49 good prospects in the country, throw them all in together now and around Robbie because
19:53 so many, so many good lightweight prospects at the moment, it's incredible really, Robert
19:58 Caswell amongst them.
19:59 Yeah definitely, like you just said there it would be great to see some of these guys
20:05 matched up against themselves because they are all looking like they are all at the same
20:10 kind of level, ready for a step up, maybe not quite so British title, English title
20:16 level, yeah maybe a couple more, so why not match them against each other, it's perfect
20:21 for both fighters but I can understand as well that's why everybody has a team, that's
20:26 why everybody has got coaches and managers and they'll do what's right for their fighter,
20:30 everybody is on a different path, but yeah no most definitely from a selfish point of
20:35 view and a fans point of view, I'd love to see these guys matched against each other
20:39 and because you can imagine they would be entertaining and exciting fights.
20:44 Well we're into the sixth and final round now.
20:52 Caswell still uses that jab effectively, that high guard of Narvaez has been penetrated
20:58 particularly by the jab on many an occasion, he's done really well tonight Robert Caswell,
21:03 shown a really cool head under the very hot lights here at York Hall and the word you
21:10 used before has shown in spades a lot of maturity.
21:14 Good movement as well.
21:24 Defensively solid Caswell tonight as well under the odd flurry, the odd attack from
21:36 Narvaez, he's been alive to it, he's been alive to the danger.
21:39 Yeah I think his reactions as well have been good, he's slipping, bobbing, weaving, little
21:45 step backs after his attacks.
21:47 Yeah it's been good performance, he's not really been hit or troubled at all by Narvaez.
21:54 Another decent shot to the body from Caswell.
22:17 Well the final minute of this contest.
22:42 You can see in his movement as well that he's a left hander but an orthodox left handed
22:47 fighter which probably explains the jab.
22:49 Being so dominant, yeah he's got a strong jab, you see that a lot with southpaws as
22:56 well, they're actually right handed but the southpaw, I don't know how to get that, probably
23:01 catches your opponent off by surprise, especially Narvaez here will be thinking Caswell's jab
23:08 is stronger than his right hand.
23:10 Yeah it's funny why he tries to turn it into a hook so often as well, it's a real skill
23:16 isn't it if you're left handed in an orthodox fight.
23:20 Yeah sometimes people just prefer that.
23:22 Yeah, it's more natural in that stance and that's the way it is.
23:36 Well there we have it, really good six rounds for Robert Caswell, very good move for his
23:41 development for sure.
23:43 And against Christian Narvaez, he won't want to see him again, there's no doubt about that,
23:47 but he's got six very good rounds under his belt, really good educating fight from Robert
23:52 Caswell's point of view, who handled it really well.
23:55 The 22 year old from Chatham and Kent will move to 6 and 0.
23:58 Of that we have little doubt, and Christian Narvaez will be boxing tomorrow if you'd let
24:04 him.
24:06 Yeah I wouldn't be surprised.
24:08 Yep certainly jabbing his way to dominance early on, kept that up all the way through,
24:19 showed good variation and overall very very solid performance from Robert Caswell.
24:32 So there's still got plenty more action to come here at York Hall, got a debut next,
24:36 Ronnie Dee.
24:38 And then of course the main event, that Southern Area Lightweight belt on the line.
24:42 That's when I know Lee, the atmosphere's going to get cranked up that a little bit more as
24:47 well, and this place is going to be rocking.
24:49 Yeah most definitely, it's going to be an exciting fight, looking forward to that one.
24:54 The official verdict though is the scoring referee that counts of course, the man with
24:57 the knowledge is our MC tonight.
24:59 Ladies and gentlemen after 6 rounds of boxing we go to the referee's scorecard.
25:06 Referee Dean Everett scores the bout 60 to 54, and your winner, Robert Caswell.
25:18 So no surprise scoring referee Dean Everett sees it the way that we see it, an absolute
25:24 shutout for Robert Caswell, who holds the ropes for his opponent very sportingly.
