00:02 - How was the preparation on taking this role
00:05 mentally and physically?
00:07 - Oh, this was a heavy role.
00:10 I have a process that's very instinctual.
00:14 So I come to set and I let all of my nervousness,
00:18 all of my vulnerability, all of my struggle
00:21 with anything that I've dealt with in life,
00:23 but also kind of the fear of doing something new
00:26 and like, am I gonna be good enough?
00:27 Are they gonna like me?
00:28 Is the director gonna approve of my choices?
00:30 I let all of that play into the shame
00:33 and the vulnerability of Eve's character
00:36 because of the things that she does.
00:39 But I also, I had to check Anna Lynn McCord at the door
00:44 and that was harder with this role than any other role
00:46 and I've played villains for 22 years,
00:48 but I don't believe that villains are real,
00:50 but for the sake of stories and context,
00:53 I had to not judge this character.
00:56 And that was the biggest preparation.
00:58 I had to find a way to find something within her
01:01 that I could connect with and I could attach to.
01:03 And ultimately, that was innocence.
01:06 She believes that she's saved
01:08 and she believes that her faith is gonna save her.
01:11 And I had to believe it as strongly as she does
01:13 in order to do her justice
01:15 and I hope that's conveyed in the film.
01:17 - How was it working with Dina and Natasha?
01:19 - Oh my gosh, Natasha, first of all,
01:21 let me just start with the devil.
01:23 (laughs)
01:24 Natasha is amazing.
01:26 She was so wonderful to work with.
01:27 We had crazy hours and crazy heat in Arizona.
01:30 It was like triple digits in the temperature,
01:33 the degrees of the temperature out there
01:35 'cause we shot in the summer in Phoenix and around.
01:39 But she was such a trooper
01:40 and she brought so much humor, actually,
01:45 and it was kinda like comedic relief
01:46 that we needed in the film because it's so heavy.
01:49 So it was amazing working with her.
01:50 It was fun and she's just,
01:52 she's an awesome down-to-earth chick.
01:54 And then working with Dean,
01:56 I mean, he's just charming.
01:58 He's Superman, you know?
01:59 How can you not be charmed by him?
02:01 We had really serious conversations.
02:03 We agree on things, we don't agree on other things,
02:06 and we talked a lot about issues in our world
02:09 that this film highlights
02:12 and we had some really deep conversations.
02:14 And then every two minutes, he whipped out his,
02:16 he's a part-time law enforcement officer,
02:18 he whipped out his handcuff key to uncuff my cuffs
02:22 'cause he was like, "You can't be happy
02:24 "sitting there in those metal shackles.
02:25 "I have to let you out of them."
02:27 So he doubled as a PA on set. (laughs)
02:32 - What have you learned from working with him?
02:36 - What have I learned by working on Condition of Return?
02:41 You know, I think it's to trust my gut instinct.
02:46 I didn't want to do the film in my head,
02:52 but I immediately said yes in my heart.
02:54 And throughout the film,
02:56 and throughout the whole process, actually,
02:57 even with everything going on with the strike,
02:59 I just kept trusting the process
03:01 and SAG ultimately approved an interim agreement
03:03 so that we could do this tonight here.
03:06 And I just kept trusting that this was meant to be,
03:09 that this is something important,
03:10 and if it was meant to be, then everything would unfold.
03:13 And I think that's the thing that I learned the most
03:15 as far as me as a human.
03:16 - Here in LA, at the LA Center.
03:20 - Oh no, San Diego.
03:22 - I was kidding, it's a spot for a picture.
03:23 - Three, three.
03:25 (whooshing)
