00:22 and we've got a brand new cover star.
00:24 It's Shakira's time and her hits don't lie.
00:26 Latin music wasn't really at its peak like it is right now
00:31 and in the US and many radios at first
00:36 really didn't wanna play hits don't lie
00:38 'cause it sounded too Latin for them.
00:42 And it's understandable 'cause he had a Colombian cumbia
00:45 in the middle of a song.
00:47 There's nothing pop about it.
00:49 The rest of the song was.
00:50 I had so much faith in this song.
00:52 My album, "Oral Succession" was already out.
00:55 It had already been published,
00:57 but I really believed that the song was gonna make it big
01:02 and against all odds, I called the head of the label.
01:06 I remember Donnie Iner, I think,
01:07 was in charge back in the day
01:09 and I convinced him to recall the physical copies
01:14 and collect them all and include the song in the album.
01:18 "Love, I'm She-Wolf" was me flirting with EDM.
01:21 It did a lot of things for me in the UK and the US.
01:24 It was my first single of my eighth studio album
01:28 and I recorded it in the Bahamas.
01:30 [singing in foreign language]
01:33 I remember that actually I wasn't too sure
01:39 about me writing the lyrics in English.
01:42 ♪ So she-wolf in your closet ♪
01:45 ♪ Burn it out so it can bleach ♪
01:49 And I reached out to Sia
01:51 and I asked her to write the lyrics in English for me
01:54 and I also reached out to Seth MacFarlane.
01:57 So I called him and said,
01:58 "Seth, can you write some lyrics for 'She-Wolf'?"
02:00 I wasn't very sure that I was able
02:01 to write lyrics for the song and they tried.
02:05 They took a crack at him,
02:07 but I ended up writing the entire lyrics for "She-Wolf."
02:11 By the end of the day, it was all me.
02:13 Actually, this one, I owe it to my son
02:15 because my son, Milan, he's only 10,
02:19 but back in the day he was nine and he was like,
02:21 "Mom, you gotta do something with 'Bizarrad'."
02:24 This guy's unbelievable.
02:26 I was like, "Who's 'Bizarrad'?
02:27 What are you talking about?"
02:28 He used to play me his music
02:30 and one time Biza DMed me and he approached me
02:35 and said that he wanted to do something with me
02:36 and he showed it to me and I'm like,
02:38 "Milan, look, look who's writing to me."
02:40 He's like, "Oh my God, the king, the god,
02:43 the Argentinian god."
02:44 He's just, (laughs)
02:46 Milan.
02:47 Yeah, and that song was just very important to me
02:49 'cause it was therapeutic.
02:51 It was the best way I had to vent some stuff out
02:55 and to kind of elaborate my feelings and my thoughts
02:58 about personal situations I was going through.

08:04 that there's opportunities, that there's mentorship,
08:06 there's job opportunities, that there's a community
08:08 that we build around those young people
08:10 to make sure that the access is truly given to 'em
08:13 after they learn the information.
08:15 - Students even had the opportunity to showcase
08:17 their own demos to the prestigious panel
08:19 and get feedback straight from those at the top.
08:22 - I want to know that any blessings or opportunities,
08:24 internships that you guys are offering to students like us.
08:27 - You have to create that end goal that says,
08:30 this is for you, it's not above you, it's not beyond you.
08:35 It is, you feel welcome and it sits in the community
08:39 that looks like you, that talks to you,
08:43 and makes it feel attainable.
08:44 - The interactive day was meant to show students
08:46 that a living wage career in music is possible
08:49 and create a pathway that allows that dream
08:52 to become a reality.
