00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 Randy Orton hasn't been on WWE TV since May 2022, well over a year now, losing the
00:13 Raw Tag Team Championships to The Usos in the process and being off TV for a reported
00:18 back injury.
00:19 He's now received back fusion surgery, which are three words that are never great when
00:23 placed next to each other, with his future in wrestling unclear.
00:26 Randy stated that he's been adamant on returning to the ring against the potential medical
00:30 wishes of those around him, but fans have joined him in that camp of wanting to see
00:33 him back on our screens and wrestling once again.
00:35 Well there may be some good news for Randy Orton fans.
00:38 This video was posted to X that appears to show Randy at the WWE Performance Center,
00:43 with Randy even lightheartedly telling the fans there that they don't see him.
00:46 Then of course that video was posted online, so now lots more people see him.
00:50 While that isn't proof in and of itself, as there's no indication on when this video
00:54 was from and it could be an old one resurfacing, there's reports about it too.
00:58 Fightful Select is reporting that Orton has been at the PC as of late, and it hasn't
01:02 been much of a secret.
01:03 Orton's bus was reportedly outside, not exactly the most inconspicuous, with Select
01:07 reporting that Orton had been around for some time lately.
01:10 In even more encouraging news, Orton has been working out in the gym, and he reportedly
01:14 got huge in a good way at one point, but as of early August he had not resumed in-ring
01:19 training, and despite rumours from that time indicating that Orton would be cleared for
01:23 return soon, WWE sources reportedly informed Fightful that this was not true, and at that
01:28 point he was not cleared.
01:30 And to add further fuel to the return fire, just in case you thought Orton might have
01:34 just been visiting and working out in the PC for convenience sake or something, there
01:38 is reportedly a very strict rule in WWE that if a talent is returning or showing up, they
01:43 have to work out in some capacity.
01:45 So it's very possible that Orton turning up at the PC and working out there is in prep
01:50 for his on-screen return, which fingers crossed can be sooner rather than later.
01:54 But of course, he should only return if and when he's able to.
01:57 Best of luck Randy.
01:58 Now unless you've been living under The Rock, you'll know that WWE, Endeavor and
02:02 UFC are now TKO with their merger deal coming to fruition last week.
02:06 And with a merger, there's always a bunch of positive stuff that happens, like a person
02:11 who left their role disgraced returning to oversee the merger, and in turn giving himself
02:15 his role back with more power than before, 100+ employees being laid off, and whatever
02:19 this is.
02:20 But while that may just be a bump in the road for TKO, they've now held their first employee
02:25 meeting since all those firings, with Vince McMahon and Ariya Manuel heading things up,
02:29 which would be the time to inspire those remaining staff members, cultivate that positive working
02:34 environment and make sure that everyone is ready to go with the new direction of the
02:37 company.
02:38 Fightful Select is reporting that there were eye rolls and reactions within the company
02:42 courtesy of what Vince McMahon said.
02:44 Boy, that went well.
02:45 Good job Vince.
02:46 Specifically, what Vince said in the meeting was that WWE had "plateaued" or "stagnated"
02:51 so that the merger was needed in order to take the company to the next level.
02:55 This was what caused the eye rolls among many because WWE have been quite openly bragging
02:59 about all the records they've been breaking lately, with revenue, profit, ticket sales,
03:04 gates for live events, merchandise and whatever Guinness World Record Natalya's got this
03:07 week probably.
03:08 It was this comment that reportedly led to many within WWE reaffirming their belief that
03:12 this merger was all a way for Vince McMahon to return to power in WWE.
03:18 I also just love the sheer arrogance from Vince.
03:21 Like he went away from WWE, which reignited a passion in the fans, the on-screen product
03:25 arguably better than it had been in at least a decade, breaking records left, right and
03:30 centre and Vince says "eh, stagnating, let me take over for you".
03:33 But there does seem to be some heat here between Vince McMahon and his WWE employees, but how
03:38 much heat?
03:39 I'm no expert, so let's hand it over to WrestleTalk's own weather reporter Helen
03:43 Temperature to tell us more.
03:45 How's it looking out there Helen?
03:46 "DUH!
03:47 DUFF!
03:48 ZWEI!"
03:49 Are you saying it's a two on the scale?
03:50 "What?
03:51 What are you talking about?"
03:53 Alright, thank you Helen.
03:54 "Where am I?
03:55 How did I get in here?
03:57 Who are you people?
03:59 Oh god!"
04:00 Haha, alright Helen, thanks, see you later.
04:05 Anyway, in case it wasn't abundantly clear what influence Vince is having over WWE, there
04:10 were last minute changes to Raw once again, with Tegan Nox set to return to Raw to answer
04:14 Becky Lynch's Open Challenge, which was reportedly pulled very late in the day.
04:18 How late you ask?
04:20 Well, Fightful Select is reporting that Nox vs Lynch was set, they had their match laid
04:24 out with producer TJ Wilson until… 10 minutes before doors opened for Raw.
04:30 Instead Nox and Natalya were switched, with Natalya answering the Open Challenge and Nox
04:34 working a main event match against Xia Li.
04:37 Lynch had reportedly pushed for the match with Nox, wanting to work with her, but of
04:40 course that was ultimately changed.
04:42 I wonder who by?
04:45 But while you can see this as a dig at Tegan Nox, it could very well just be a positive
04:49 move for Natalya, as WWE officials were reportedly very pleased with her recently working two
04:54 matches in India, stepping up to the plate when Becky was unable to travel.
04:58 So maybe this is just a nice reward for Natty, doing some good and looking out for her fellow
05:02 wrestlers.
05:03 But still, sucks for Tegan.
05:04 There reportedly aren't any significant creative plans for Tegan either, and those
05:07 that Fightful spoke to were hopeful that the Open Challenge would continue, but that's
05:11 unclear right now.
05:12 On NXT last night, Lynch vs Stratton 2 was set for No Mercy, in an Extreme Rules match
05:17 no less, so there's every chance Stratton would win the belt back there, and Lynch's
05:20 reign would be a short one.
05:22 No more Open Challenge for you.
05:24 But can Natalya save the Raw ratings?
05:26 No.
05:27 I don't think anyone can.
05:29 Because with Monday Night Football starting up once again, there is some stiff competition
05:32 for Raw once more.
05:33 Starting in this week's show scoring a 1.331 million average viewership figure, the
05:37 second lowest Raw viewership of all time and the lowest of 2023.
05:41 So far.
05:42 But maybe, just maybe, Jade Cargill can turn things around.
05:45 Though I doubt it, that football competition seems rough.
05:48 But anyway, Jade is reportedly on her way to WWE soon, and Dave Meltzer on Wrestling
05:52 Observer Radio had more on what they plan to do with her when she gets there.
05:56 She was in Orlando today, Monday.
05:58 I asked if she was at the Performance Center, people had not seen her, that doesn't mean
06:01 she wasn't there.
06:02 They're doing main roster creative for her right now, and it's high priority.
06:05 They're not bringing her in to be like, you know how they would bring in some of the NXT
06:09 people like Von Wagner or Al Buffer or Katana Chance that are brought up and they have no
06:13 idea what to do with them, and then they just kind of disappear into the dust.
06:16 It's almost like, why do we even bother calling them up?
06:18 She is not earmarked to be like that.
06:20 She's earmarked for real stuff.
06:22 Real stuff.
06:24 Not Von Wagner.
06:25 Right, got it.
06:26 Thank you very much, Dave.
06:27 Also, remember that one episode of Smackdown where Von Wagner was there, wasn't referenced
06:31 at all, and then never showed up again?
06:33 Never forget.
06:34 Never forget.
06:35 Something else we can't forget is CM Punk.
06:38 Obviously.
06:39 In the statement that Tony Khan released about the incident that took place at All In, he
06:42 mentioned that he feared for his life, with reports noting that Punk lunged for TK during
06:46 the confrontation with Jack Perry.
06:48 Now that "fearing for his life" line may have been referenced on CFFC, the MMA promotion
06:53 that Punk provides commentary for.
06:54 In describing the nerves a fighter might feel stepping into the cage, Punk's co-commentator
06:58 mentioned "The bright lights, the big production, I mean, they see CM Punk in the house, they
07:02 get all nervous, you know what I mean?"
07:03 Punk replied with "Well, they might, I don't know.
07:06 For different reasons, depending on what you're reading, I don't know."
07:08 And among the ensuing laughter between them, Punk's co-commentator can be heard saying
07:12 "Some of them fear for their lives, I heard.
07:14 Teehee.
07:15 What a naughty boy."
07:16 Interestingly, Samoa Joe has recently commented on that backstage incident at All In, where
07:21 TK said he feared for his life, and in classic Joe fashion it could be summed up with "Eh,
07:25 not a big deal, TBH."
07:27 When asked by the New York Post if that moment backstage was as intense as it sounded, Joe
07:31 said "That's up to whoever perceived it.
07:33 I'm used to that environment.
07:35 Those things don't seem very intense to me, but it could be something crazy intense
07:38 to someone else.
07:39 I wasn't really affected by the moment."
07:41 It's like Joe's walk away from a high flyer spot, but about a backstage confrontation,
07:45 and I kinda love it.
07:46 But now it's time for my NXT One Minute One Take, where I'll attempt to recount everything
07:50 that happened on last night's episode of NXT in one minute, and in one take.
07:54 Let me get my timer ready.
07:55 Here we go.
07:56 Alright.
07:57 I need to do better than Luke normally does.
08:00 That would be ideal.
08:03 Timer set for one minute.
08:05 Okay, here we go.
08:06 Start the timer!
08:07 NVXT started with Becky and Tiffany Stratton brawling after a Becky promo leading to a
08:10 handicap main event with Kiana James as well, followed by The Meta Four doing a backstage
08:14 bit, and then Dominic Mysterio tries to recruit Trick Williams to Judgment Day.
08:17 Butch then defeated Tyler Bate in a great match because of course it was, and then Thea
08:20 Hale buys a new outfit which we don't get to see yet.
08:22 Duke Hudson beat Joe Coffey to cause a three-way tie at the top of Group B's Heritage Cup standings,
08:25 Akira Fuzawa got zero points, lol, Roxanne Perez defeated Lola Vice, Eddie Thorpe challenged
08:29 Dijak to a strap match, but he's got so much experience whipping trees, Eddie!
08:33 And Carmelo Hayes vs Dom Dom ended in a non-non finish, with Dragunov beating them both up.
08:37 Joe Gacy tries to recruit Trip Williams to their cult, it's open season apparently, Price,
08:41 Nima and Scripps win some money, Joe Coffey beat Duke Hudson and Nathan Frizzard to sort
08:44 out their three-way tie, Mustafa Ali is mad that Dragon Lee got a title shot before him,
08:48 Baron Corbin chatted to Josh Briggs and Becky was joined by Lyra Valkyria for the main event
08:51 where they won in a tag match and then challenged Stratton to an Extreme Rules match, and no
08:55 one was hurt.
08:56 And that's it for this episode of NXT, I'm gonna call that flawless. I'm just gonna say
09:06 it now, that was flawless. Anyway, HBK sure runs a tight show, doesn't he? There's so
09:12 many segments on NXT, and speaking of HBK, check out the latest parts of Unknown List,
09:16 where Tempest lists Shawn Michaels' greatest rivals of his career. Here's a clip, watch
09:22 it.
09:23 And as always, thanks for watching.
