00:00 There seems to be a whole raft of measures to be on those, the ones you've just mentioned,
00:05 the new levy on short-stay accommodation and those incentives for developers.
00:08 We're also seeing the potential for major reform of the planning process.
00:13 The government potentially looking to take away power from some local councils and to
00:18 fast-track development approvals for major developments with a look to increase density
00:22 in Melbourne, as well as changes, as you mentioned there, some incentives for developers to include
00:27 more social housing.
00:30 And what we will find out in an hour is exactly what goes into this major housing package.
00:36 But the headline is what you led off with there, the short-stay accommodation tax.
00:40 Premier Daniel Andrews saying that there are thousands of properties across Victoria that
00:45 are in the short-stay market right now that could be shifted into long-term rentals or
00:50 sold to owner-occupiers.
00:52 The government seriously considering a new tax, potentially up to 7.5% on the likes of
00:57 Airbnb or stays properties, hotels not expected to be a part of that.
01:03 Those platforms have pushed back against some of those proposals, saying they don't think
01:06 it'll address the serious issues of housing affordability and the rental crisis here in
01:12 Victoria.
01:13 But exactly what does make it into the final package?
01:15 We'll have to wait and see.
