Discussing Sheffield Wednesday's Middlesbrough draw
Transcript
00:00 Joe Crown we were just saying as we prepared to make this film, film's a bit of a grand
00:05 term isn't it, that at half time we sort of looked at each other and we sort of said well
00:10 maybe tonight's the night. Alas the second half was pretty dour. Yeah I think the second
00:16 half was as bad as the first half was. It's nice of him to be cutting it, he's not putting
00:21 Gale in was he? No he doesn't. But yeah the first half, Wensley weren't strong, I thought
00:27 there was a lot of good play from them. Both Burrow and Paul as we said. Yeah. But they
00:33 made us subbed in at half time and it really seemed to change things and they were in the
00:38 ascendancy for pretty much the entirety of the second half and Wensley just seemed to
00:42 sit further and further back. They had a brief spell towards the end when they seemed to
00:47 push on a little bit for a winner but they never really ended up making anything happen.
00:52 They didn't test Senebiang at all in the second half really. We asked Sisco the question why
00:57 are Wensley unable to put together a 90 minutes. Worryingly it didn't really seem to, I left
01:04 the press conference for part of it to speak to Anthony Massa but did he manage to give
01:08 many answers? He said he didn't when I was there. No I mean a lot of what he's saying
01:13 is that there's various elements as to why they're not able to see games through and
01:20 he spoke about how against Ipswich it was the flip side, they were better in the second
01:24 half than the first. I think the concerning thing for Wensley is that it's properly Jekyll
01:31 and Hyde in it. There's not big gaps in performance levels. The first half they were playing like
01:37 a proper championship team and in the second half they really really struggled. He described
01:43 it as black and white, they were two virtually different performances and I think that is
01:48 a really concerning thing for Wensley because if they can't maintain that first half performance
01:53 for longer than 45 minutes then it's, as we know it's going to be the case probably anyway,
01:58 it's going to be a long, long season. How concerned are you as a Wensley writer and
02:05 supporter at where things are at? It's nine competitive matches now this season under
02:10 a new manager with a new squad without a win. Swansea offer an opportunity I'd say, they're
02:17 one of the three teams, two of them are here tonight, that haven't got a win yet in the
02:21 championship. That's obviously an away game on Saturday. You've got to look at that and
02:28 think three points. I think the problem was that it was tonight as a home game you thought
02:33 the three points. Going away to Swansea is... They've been better away than at home though
02:38 for the most part Wensley. This is obviously their first point at home, two points at a
02:45 time. I think the way that they've played is far from ideal. I am concerned, I think
02:49 anyone who says they're not concerned is being blindly optimistic because there are so many
02:56 causes for concern in so many different aspects of the play that Wensley are putting out.
03:02 I think that when you look at a game like tonight and the way that Borough have struggled
03:08 against so many teams this season, the way that they were able to dictate so much of
03:12 the second half was a real concern. Wensley made four changes and none of it seemed to
03:20 really help. I think people are right to be concerned. There's a lot more at play at the
03:26 moment at Wensley, there's a lot of discontent going around, it's not just on the field stuff.
03:34 I think that this week felt like a big week because of obviously like you say it was Swansea
03:39 where they are and Borough where they are. Coming away from this with four points, probably
03:45 okay. If Wensley beat Swansea at the weekend, things get forgotten pretty quickly. But if
03:52 Wensley don't get a positive result away at Swansea, it starts to become increasingly
04:00 more concerning doesn't it?
04:01 There's a couple of Scallywag Wednesday employees desperately trying to put us off our good
04:06 work.
04:07 And not important ones either.
04:08 Yes again. We'll leave it there, there'll be plenty of reaction analysis of the on pitch
04:15 stuff, the off pitch stuff. I mean we haven't even spoken about the tennis ball protest.
04:21 Just a word on Josh Winders by the way, because people were obviously asking about Josh. I'm
04:27 going to say this, it was taken off as a precaution.
04:31 That's the official line.
04:34 My concern is that the last time Josh Winders was taken off as a precaution, it didn't go
04:41 quite to plan. So no, that is the official line, it's nothing too serious. Chisco said
04:46 that he's put a lot into the last few games and he was taken off. They don't seem to be
04:51 overly concerned. Dominic Hayworth as well, he missed out tonight after a knock that he
04:55 picked up at the weekend. Again, they're not too concerned.
04:58 There we have it. Catch it all and plenty more over the next few days at thestart.co.uk
