00:30 Hello, everybody.
00:44 Well, we're out here.
00:46 We're looking around.
00:47 We're doing the air current got all funny again.
00:49 Unfortunately, kind of had things started to look good.
00:52 And on our last trip out, bait started to kind of stack up.
00:57 And it kind of went a little bit funky now this morning, but it's not awful.
01:07 Just not great, but I think that we at least have enough to start to work
01:13 some areas and start to kind of hunt with a little bit more of a purpose.
01:19 So we're starting the day off being down about Keaho area.
01:26 Working a finger that comes out this way and
01:30 mark a little bit of on the screen a little bit of bait here.
01:35 We're gonna pound this zone just a little bit and
01:38 then I'll probably work my way down.
01:40 There's a area down there we call Red Hill.
01:43 Way inside, I like that zone way inside on what the current
01:49 was doing yesterday.
01:51 And it's very light right now, but it is similar to what it was doing yesterday,
01:54 which is very light.
01:55 So my thoughts are just gonna pick up throughout the day.
01:57 So what I'll probably do is stay on this point for a little bit.
02:01 Then we'll head down to that Red Hill zone when hopefully that current picks up and
02:05 hopefully my predictions are correct.
02:08 And if I am, I think we'll find one.
02:10 So looking for that real big one to kind of make it a worthy season.
02:15 It's been a really tough summer.
02:19 But it's a big Chukana form, it only takes one fish.
02:24 It's all it takes sometimes here to really make it all worth it.
02:32 But yeah, the numbers are very, very, very spread out this year.
02:37 But there have been some big ones around, so you never know.
02:43 Never know.
02:44 Every day there's a hero in this harbor, every day.
02:47 So I'm hoping that our day is today.
02:51 [LAUGH] Anyways, it's a beautiful day out here.
02:54 We're gonna work these zones, head around, see what we see.
02:59 Lures are out there doing their jobs, everything's looking good.
03:03 Spirits are high, good vibrations, positive vibes.
03:07 Big blue marlin on the land.
03:10 Bring it on.
03:11 [MUSIC]
03:16 To me, what I see is, it's just a testament to hard work and
03:21 self-device, cuz it's hard for men to hold muscle.
03:25 If a man trains, he trains for years, he'd take off a month.

04:00 [MUSIC]
04:10 [MUSIC]
04:20 >> Yeah.
04:28 >> Real fast through that way, you don't feel much real fast.
04:31 >> It's probably swimming at you.
04:32 It's on there.
04:34 >> You're doing good, just keep reeling fast, you're good.
04:38 >> If it's swimming at you, you're not gonna feel it.
04:41 >> Okay.
04:45 >> He's swimming like that right now, you're doing good, you're doing good, man.
04:47 Just keep reeling.
04:48 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:54 He's gonna get after us, you just whine.
04:56 He's gonna get after with the boat, so you just whine.
04:59 Just whine fast.
05:02 He's right here, once I grab the leader, he'll be caught.
05:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:13 >> They came on, eh?
05:16 Okay.
05:20 Yeah, correct, you're good, he's right there, he's right there.
05:22 He's right there.
05:24 You're doing good, sir, you're doing good.
05:26 Just keep going.
05:27 I can't do it, if it's right there, I gotta grab the leader.
05:30 You're good, you're almost there.
05:34 There he is, look, look, look, look.
05:35 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:44 You're good, that was a good call.
05:46 I thought he was too.
05:47 >> Go, go, go, go, go.
05:51 >> Reel, reel, reel, reel, reel.
05:52 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:57 >> Stop reeling?
05:57 >> Yeah, stop reeling.
05:58 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:08 >> Yeah, nice fish.
06:19 Billy, if you want, you can get him out of the chair now.
06:21 You can put that thing in, I got him right here, Billy.
06:25 All right, nice job, Chris.
06:28 Good job, Mr. Jack, he's right here.
06:30 Take your time, I got him right here.
06:33 He's fine.
06:34 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:36 >> Hook from the other side.
06:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:42 >> Same work?
06:43 >> Yeah, they like the feather sword.
06:45 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:51 >> You all look up at Chris, he'll get a picture of you all.
06:53 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:59 >> All good?
06:59 >> Yeah, buddy.
07:00 >> Swim it, swim it.
07:02 Hell yeah.
07:02 >> There you go.
07:03 >> Congratulations.
07:04 >> Hell yeah.
07:04 [LAUGH]
07:05 >> Good job, buddy.
07:08 >> Good job, buddy.
07:10 >> Good work.
07:11 >> Good job.
07:11 >> Good job, Dr. Jack, good job.
07:15 >> About the same as mine.
07:15 >> Yeah, yeah.
07:16 >> Yeah.
07:16 >> 150, 130.
07:17 >> Congratulations.
07:19 >> Now you have to jump in the water too?
07:20 >> Yeah.
07:21 >> Now you're gonna have to jump in the water too?
07:23 >> Double jumpers.
07:24 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:27 >> All right, folks, well, we caught a little rat right there.
07:31 Yeah, glad my little prediction or my shot in the dark there,
07:36 I'm glad it actually came, turned true.
07:40 Like I said, we worked up that area and then I bailed and came down here to Red
07:44 Hill, which I like this inside zone on that current.
07:47 And I had a feeling that that current would start picking up later in the day
07:51 on that first change and as the day progressed,
07:53 it felt like it would start picking up in here and sure enough it did.
07:56 And started looking, well, not looking and not seeing, marking some stuff, but
08:01 not seeing a bunch of life on the surface as you do in a lot of other places.
08:05 Conus notoriously can look like a barren desert on the surface, but
08:10 what's going on underneath is a different story.
08:12 So it started to feel, to me, felt like, okay, I'm gonna put my time in here.
08:17 And yeah, maybe third, fourth pass on the zone,
08:21 we got that little one called on the stinger and
08:24 still got a lot of times very early in the day still and fish it out through here.
08:31 Let's see if we can find a big one, there should be a big one in here.
08:33 I would think we just gotta kind of maybe wait our turn a little bit, but yeah.
08:41 New Orleans, starting to feel a little bit like we're fishing again, it's nice.
08:45 That July period was very much just luck fishing, just driving around,
08:50 hopefully driving over one, there was no structure holding really what,
08:55 where the fish were supposed to be.
08:57 And if you didn't have a sonar unit, you were pretty much just hoping you'd
09:02 drive over one, which I don't react too well fishing wise to that.
09:08 I like to feel, I like to use the conditions, use the current,
09:12 use the elements to decide where I wanna spend my day and put my time in,
09:16 in that zone.
09:17 I'm not really a wanderer, some people do that wandering style of fishing where
09:21 they just wander around and they do phenomenal.
09:23 And they do really well when the fishing sucks too.
09:25 But what's worked for me over the years and what I've kind of learned through,
09:29 especially looking for big fish, it's finding that zone that you're interested
09:33 in and putting in your time there.
09:35 And getting ready for that big one to file on,
09:38 because it can happen whenever, you know.
09:42 So anyhow, back at it, that one ate the stinger, ate a bullet.
09:48 Yep, found a bigger one here, so standby.
09:51 [BLANK_AUDIO]
09:55 [MUSIC]
10:05 [MUSIC]
10:15 All right guys, here we are, back out here, just came back from Mexico.
10:24 Got some good syrup, hung out down there with the boys.
10:28 Awesome trip, always a good time.
10:32 Went down there, scored the points, met up with a bunch of good friends.
10:38 [MUSIC]
10:48 Yeah, awesome, so anyways, today we're out here, we started up.
10:59 I actually have my good buddies who I have fished the Bisbees for
11:03 several years in Cabo.
11:06 They're over here from Mexico, they're all from different parts of Mexico, but
11:09 really good buddies of mine throughout the years.
11:12 And we spent a bunch of time on the ocean over there in Cabo, and
11:14 they never came out here to fish me in Kona.
11:16 So they did a little vacation with their wives and jumped out here.
11:20 And so we're heading out, fishing's been terrible.
11:23 I'm not gonna lie and
11:26 paint a picture that we're having epic fishing out here.
11:28 It's the most humbling season I've ever had out here.
11:31 Just no consistent current, very difficult.
11:33 Just bad fishing all in all.
11:36 Guys with those sonar units are the ones catching fish.
11:40 Mainly because the fish just aren't where they're supposed to be, so
11:43 you can just kind of drive around with one of those sonar units on.
11:45 And yeah, they're not really working structured.
11:48 Just kind of drive around, and Mark wanted to go over and try and catch it.
11:51 So it's been difficult for the guys that are trying to use
11:56 the elements of the ocean to find our fish, it's been difficult for us.
11:59 But hey, every day's a new day.
12:02 I'm excited, stoked to be back out here.
12:04 We got amazing people fishing with us today, fired up.
12:08 Hopefully we can get it done.
12:09 If not, they understand fishing, they know how it is.
12:14 I can hold them, look, it's a tough season.
12:16 We'll see what we can do out here, but they don't have any grand expectations.
12:20 But you just never know.
12:21 Kona could provide.
12:25 We're due for some love from the island right now, I believe.
12:28 So today could be the day she provides for us, and
12:32 I sure would love to do that for these guys.
12:34 They've been really good friends of mine through the years.
12:37 And taking a lot of good care of me, treating me like family.
12:41 And had some good times.
12:44 Anyhow, here we go, coming around the corner.
12:48 Hopefully we find some current, hopefully we find some fish.
12:52 And yeah, getting it done.
12:55 So standby.
12:56 [MUSIC]
13:01 All right, let's go find one.
13:02 [MUSIC]
13:12 Hey, I'm gonna eat you.
13:20 [BLANK_AUDIO]
13:30 Blue, black.
13:44 >> Blue.
13:46 >> There is, there is.
13:47 Look back.
13:48 [MUSIC]
13:58 [MUSIC]
14:08 [MUSIC]
14:18 [MUSIC]
14:43 [MUSIC]
14:48 Yeah, all right, we're on.
14:51 It's a left teaser.
14:52 We switched it over.
14:54 Set up, now we're on.
14:57 Nice one, nice fish.
14:59 [MUSIC]
15:03 All right, let's see if we can get him.
15:04 [MUSIC]
15:07 >> I told you I was gonna put us in the right spot.
15:10 >> You bet, my friend.
15:13 >> All right, we got Mr. Mario over here and the boys from Mexico.
15:18 >> You bet.
15:19 >> How's it feel?
15:20 >> Feels good.
15:21 >> Mario.
15:23 >> What you doing?
15:23 >> Hey.
15:24 >> Hey.
15:25 >> We're at the yellow, Chris.
15:26 >> Black Marlin.
15:27 >> No, that's a blue.
15:31 >> No, that's his company, Black Marlin.
15:32 >> [LAUGH] That's a blue.
15:34 >> The guy, we call him Black Marlin.
15:36 >> Bueno, bueno, bueno.
15:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
15:40 >> Dude, way to tease him up.
15:41 He got it away from him.
15:42 It's like, as soon as I saw him eat, I'm like, he's gonna eat.
15:44 >> I saw it come down, so I knew.
15:48 [BLANK_AUDIO]
15:51 I just heard it.
15:53 That's why I knew it was that side, cuz I heard it come down.
15:55 I was like, oh.
15:56 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:00 >> He's gonna put some line.
16:01 >> Huh?
16:02 >> He's putting a little line.
16:03 >> Yeah.
16:04 It's like barely trickle off, Chris.
16:06 >> Yeah, okay.
16:07 >> Just kind of like.
16:08 >> Mm-hm.
16:09 >> Yeah, if he just wants to, just let him do it.
16:10 >> Yeah, pressure's good?
16:14 >> Yeah, he just tricked.
16:15 >> Okay.
16:15 >> Oh, agarado.
16:19 >> It's, I mean, it's just like a.
16:21 >> [FOREIGN]
16:23 >> Hey, Patsy.
16:24 >> Now, now, now it's gone.
16:25 >> Patsy, Patsy.
16:27 >> Man at work.
16:28 >> Two clicks.
16:30 >> How many pounds?
16:33 >> Yeah.
16:34 >> Tell me if you want me to.
16:35 >> More than five.
16:36 >> Huh?
16:36 >> You want me to cover more line?
16:37 >> Yeah, you can, I'll just pump the drag up a little bit so it didn't take.
16:40 You're doing good, Mario.
16:40 >> I just wanna.
16:43 >> No, you're perfect, you're good.
16:44 Keep doing what you're doing.
16:45 You're doing fine.
16:45 I'm just, he was taking, we put it at yellow for the bite so
16:48 we don't have too much pressure on him.
16:50 >> And if the red is.
16:51 >> Well, we'll go up to here if we want to.
16:55 He's a, he's, he's crazy.
16:56 >> I know.
16:57 >> [LAUGH]
16:57 >> Don't invite him.
16:58 Keep him in the.
16:59 >> Yeah.
16:59 >> Control.
17:01 Keep him as a captain.
17:02 >> Yeah, yeah.
17:02 >> You're the deckman.
17:04 You're the deckman.
17:05 >> Still chucking one off his head.
17:07 >> [INAUDIBLE]
17:09 >> That's a blue one?
17:10 >> Yeah.
17:10 >> Take a pull.
17:16 >> What happened?
17:19 >> Damn.
17:20 >> All right, pull off.
17:21 >> All right.
17:21 All right, folks, well, that's that.
17:32 Had a spearfish bite.
17:34 Probably one of the smallest spearfish I've ever seen.
17:36 Caught that.
17:38 Shortly after that, we missed a big ahi.
17:40 Worked that area a bit longer, but never, never were able to get another bite.
17:45 Current actually started to look all right here.
17:47 We're heading in, kind of a short day.
17:50 Started raining here a bit, and yeah, we're just gonna head in,
17:56 have some drinks, hang out, have a good dinner.
17:57 Talk about that big one that came off, and enjoy the evening, and
18:03 then back out here tomorrow.
18:05 Stand by.
18:05 Stand by.
18:08 [MUSIC]
18:18 All right, guys, back out here.
18:23 Got my good friends downstairs from Mimico coming around the corner here.
18:27 We'll see what we can find today.
18:29 Kind of a late start.
18:31 And we had a few cocktails last night.
18:35 Decided to do a little bit of a later start out here, so that's all good.
18:40 I'm all cool with that.
18:40 I don't feel like Kona's one of those spots you need to be out here in the crack
18:43 of dawn to catch fish.
18:44 >> I'm totally bombing this interview to give him a headset.
18:48 Let's go.
18:49 >> Yeah.
18:49 >> He likes his headset.
18:54 >> Get up in there, dog.
18:55 >> [LAUGH] Where was I at?
18:59 I don't even remember what I was talking about.
19:02 Something about the tide.
19:03 Yeah, the tides, I usually feel like around the tide.
19:05 Tide changes in the middle of the day.
19:07 Fights are all day long, really, but we usually see a flurry around the tide.
19:10 But anyway, so that being said, this isn't a place you need to leave in the dark
19:15 to try and catch a blue marlin.
19:16 It's just not, it doesn't have to happen that way.
19:19 Anyway, back out here.
19:20 Yesterday, we had that really nice one come up on the teaser.
19:25 Teased it right up to the back, had it convert over to the tingum.
19:30 Had her on for a while.
19:32 Everything seemed good, pulled hook.
19:34 It's a learning process, what we're doing.
19:38 Really nobody really doing that over here in Kona, the bait switch stuff.
19:42 But I feel like there's a lot of potential in doing it here.
19:45 I'm waiting to get my 80 service right now.
19:51 I got the rod and I got the, I forget what those butts are called, but
19:56 you can make them straight or bent so we can pitch a dead bait standing.
20:00 And I think we'll do a lot better when we can pitch a dead bait.
20:02 Right now with the 130, we're basically doing what some guys in Madera do it,
20:07 some guys in some other spots will do it.
20:09 But it's basically a tingum, I'm sure you know what a tingum is.
20:11 But if you don't, it's basically a lure, soft lure that we're pitching to the fish
20:17 after we tease them to the back of the boat.
20:19 And we basically give it to them in the hopes that when we tease them up and
20:22 we get them so aggressive, when we make that handover,
20:24 we're gonna get a going away bite, which is really the best bite you wanna get.
20:28 Because it looks coming at them like this.
20:31 Doesn't work every time, it's still lure fishing.
20:34 But you will have a better percentage, but we're still messing around with it.
20:37 I'm still trying to figure out what my best hook rig to use on that.
20:40 It's a learning experience.
20:42 But, and I'm open to learn stuff, that's what this is all about.
20:48 I feel like I wanna continually evolve and learn and do different things.
20:51 And the whole just driving around pulling lures is fun and it's great and it works.
20:56 But I feel like I can do better.
20:57 I feel like I can definitely do better, so I wanna do that.
21:00 And work harder too, we gotta work harder now with these guys with the sonar units.
21:06 I mean, I really hope I don't insult anyone by saying this, but
21:10 with those sonar units, I feel like anybody can go out here and catch fish now.
21:13 Just put a couple of lures out, turn your sonar unit on and drive over to them.
21:16 It just, in my opinion, it's killed the art of what we do.
21:20 It's just destroyed.
21:22 But it's a tool and it's a weapon and
21:25 hopefully I'll get one of these things and jump in there.
21:29 And I think when you give a good captain one of those, it's pretty impressive.
21:33 Because they already know how to read the ocean and work structure and
21:36 then they have that extra tool.
21:37 But I guess the frustrating thing to me is that there are people that have just
21:41 skipped that whole thing of learning how to read the ocean and
21:45 learning how to decide where there might be a big fish.
21:47 And they're doing really well just because of a piece of electronics.
21:50 So anyways, I'm not gonna bitch and moan.
21:53 I have a lot of praise for you if you're doing good and you're fishing.
21:58 Hey, I want everyone to do well, right?
22:00 Like it's, at the end of the day, we all wanna be out here having fun.
22:04 So God bless you, the sonar is what made you a good fisherman.
22:07 Keep going.
22:09 Anyways, bait and switch thing, yeah, we're working on it.
22:13 I'm exploring it, experimenting with it.
22:15 We're gonna stick with it.
22:16 We're gonna see how we do.
22:17 I think ultimately we're gonna have an 80 at 50 and
22:22 then the 130 will be a tingam but the other two will have dead baits.
22:26 And then I'm gonna try and figure out a better way of pitching off the 130.
22:30 And I have a few ideas and they're just gonna experiment.
22:32 It's fun.
22:33 The bites are freaking, you tease your fish.
22:37 It's just once you do it, it's hard to go back.
22:39 It's just so hands on.
22:41 It takes so much more skill.
22:43 It's just exciting.
22:44 The bites are right off the transom.
22:46 Everybody's watching it.
22:47 It's cool.
22:49 And for the longest time people say, the fish don't tease here in Kona.
22:52 I don't know.
22:55 So far, we'll see what happens, right?
22:57 But so far, they seem to tease pretty good.
23:01 But yeah, anyways, it is what it is.
23:04 Learning, experimenting, you gotta keep growing.
23:07 I don't wanna get stagnant, evolving.
23:11 And onward and upward, let's see if we can make it happen today for us.
23:15 Good, beautiful day and see if we can punt.
23:21 [MUSIC]
23:31 [INAUDIBLE]
23:41 [MUSIC]
23:51 [INAUDIBLE]
24:01 Hey.
24:15 >> You're doing good, Eddie.
24:16 Doing good.
24:18 Just like that, bud.
24:19 Just like that.
24:20 Can't get it all back in one crank, so it takes too many.
24:24 [LAUGH]
24:26 [BLANK_AUDIO]
24:36 Smash bait.
24:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
24:41 >> Nah, you think, really?
24:42 [BLANK_AUDIO]
24:45 >> It's the first lure in a while, dude.
24:47 [BLANK_AUDIO]
24:57 >> You gotta do.
24:59 >> Slow, slow, slow.
25:00 >> No, no, he's good, he's good, he's good right there.
25:02 He's good now, it's over.
25:04 It's not, yeah, just like that, Bubba.
25:06 Now reel up back.
25:07 All right, now sit down, now sit down.
25:08 Don't try to crank for half an inch.
25:10 Come up.
25:11 Look at all that, look at all that you're getting.
25:12 Now sit down, now sit down.
25:14 Sorry.
25:15 >> All right, I'll buy one.
25:16 >> Okay.
25:17 >> [LAUGH]
25:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
25:23 >> There you go, that's all you gotta do, man.
25:25 That's good, now go back.
25:26 Don't try to gain it all when you're down there.
25:28 There you go, come back.
25:30 Now come up a little bit, that's it, right there.
25:31 Now go back again.
25:33 That's all you need, that's all you need.
25:35 [BLANK_AUDIO]
25:44 >> No, just rolling off, I'm just coming back.
25:47 It's 350 pounds.
25:49 >> [LAUGH]
25:51 >> How many?
25:52 >> All right, a dollar bill bet, a dollar bill bet, how about that?
25:56 >> I bet you.
25:57 >> 220, 220.
25:58 >> That I would let you, you said 90, that's a big difference.
26:01 >> How much you say?
26:02 >> I honestly think it's probably like 170.
26:05 >> 170?
26:06 >> 350.
26:07 >> How much?
26:09 >> 250, 250.
26:10 >> 170.
26:11 >> No, 170.
26:13 >> He's saying 170 kilos.
26:15 >> Kilos?
26:16 >> No, he's saying pounds, I know you're saying kilos.
26:20 >> Practice.
26:21 >> Practice.
26:23 >> There you go, look at all that.
26:26 [MUSIC]
26:32 >> There he is out there.
26:33 >> Whoa.
26:34 >> Whoa.
26:35 >> A little nicer fish.
26:37 [MUSIC]
26:47 >> Get ready to reel, ready?
26:52 >> I'm just going out here, I'm just going to wait.
26:56 >> Come on, reel, reel, reel, reel, reel, reel.
26:58 >> Sure is here, guys.
27:00 [MUSIC]
27:16 >> He's right there.
27:18 He's all tangled up.
27:19 >> There, there, there.
27:22 >> Reel it.
27:26 >> Yeah, it's on his jorsal, there it is.
27:30 [MUSIC]
27:43 >> Grab this, grab this, grab this.
27:45 [MUSIC]
28:01 >> All right, what do you think?
28:03 Got one.
28:04 [CHEERING]
28:12 >> All right, we got one for him.
28:16 All right.
28:17 [MUSIC]
28:29 >> All right, well, we're calling it a day.
28:33 We're heading in, just caught one.
28:35 Decent one, little bit bigger route, I would say.
28:39 And yeah, heading in, basically what happened, that current started getting weird for me down there where I was liking the fish.
28:45 Started coming up this way, found the split.
28:47 Just afterwards, started doing what I like to do for my favorite spot right up in here, the pocket.
28:53 I haven't caught many in there at all a year, and I just thought, well, I'm just going to come up here and give it a couple of passes, see if we can find one in the old hole there.
29:00 First pass, aloha, smash bait.
29:04 She kind of had a tough time getting her body in there.
29:06 And luckily, she just came good and turned black and swam off.
29:10 We got lucky there.
29:11 I thought that one was going to the smoker.
29:13 Funny story is my little mud flap teaser that I'll be selling shortly, but you'll see them soon.
29:21 I'll start -- I'll put some info, but I've been pulling that as my teaser.
29:24 And anyways, while we were fighting that fish and it was in the water, a blue came up and grabbed it and broke it off.
29:31 So that's kind of a good sign that that thing works, even when you're just coming in and out of gear.
29:39 So that was interesting.
29:40 While we were fighting the fish, I'm like, what is that black thing floating by the line?
29:44 I'm like, what is that?
29:45 And I go, mud flap.
29:47 The whole line was all chafed up.
29:50 Came up and she's probably eating it, snapped it off.
29:55 Anyways, we got one.
29:57 These guys are ready to go in.
29:58 They've been drinking all day, the slow fish, and they're just here to have a good time and party.
30:02 They've been drinking good rum and having a good time.
30:04 And so they are ready to head to the restaurant and bar.
30:08 We're going to go have a nice evening.
30:10 And that's that.
30:11 We'll be out here again very shortly, back on it, see if we can find a big one.
30:19 But yeah, nice.
30:20 You know, for how bad the fishing is, I'm glad they -- you know, we had that really real nice one on that switched off.
30:25 We had a yellowfin that we missed, exploded on the thing I lost.
30:29 We caught a spearfish and then they caught a blue right now.
30:31 So a little bit of action and heading in.
30:34 We're going early.
30:35 All right.
30:36 See you tomorrow, Brady.
