00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 We are once again in the pendulum swing of wrestling, where at one point it was always
00:13 about which WWE people were going to be leaving to join AEW, and now the pendulum has swung
00:18 back in the other direction with more speculation about which people would be leaving AEW to
00:23 join WWE, as has been the news with Jade Cargill, more on that later.
00:27 But now the pendulum could swing back the other way again, as there's potentially
00:31 some news on a long-tenured WWE veteran and former world champion joining AEW.
00:37 Dolph Ziggler hasn't been on WWE TV consistently for a long time.
00:41 He competed in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal earlier this year, had a short feud
00:45 with Mustafa Ali early in the year, and was a free agent in the draft.
00:50 That matters.
00:51 But even before that, he would come back for a short run, sometimes with the NXT title,
00:54 and sometimes challenging Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship or getting squashed by
00:58 Goldberg.
00:59 But could he be joining AEW?
01:01 Ziggler's brother Ryan Nemeth tweeted this picture of the two together, photoshopped
01:05 holding the AEW World Tag Titles together, with Ryan holding the TNT belt and Dolph holding
01:10 the AEW World Title.
01:11 Break yourself higher Ryan, shoot for that World Title mate.
01:14 This has fueled some speculation around Ziggler's contract status with WWE, and the details
01:18 are hazy.
01:19 Because it looks like, according to reports from the time, that Ziggler may have signed
01:23 a contract extension with WWE in around late 2018 or early 2019, presumably for 5 years,
01:30 although there were also reports indicating that WWE wanted to transition him into a backstage
01:34 producer which he reportedly refused to do.
01:37 That would mean though that his contract would be coming up soon if it were a 5 year deal,
01:41 which is what the WWE standard was at the time, so he could freely join AEW if he wanted
01:47 to.
01:48 He also appeared on Being The Elite this past Monday, just in case you wanted some more
01:51 fuel on that fire.
01:52 Would you want to see Ziggler in AEW?
01:54 Let me know in the comments.
01:55 But as has been the chatter among wrestling lately, Jade Cargill may very well be on her
02:00 way to WWE shortly, and there's some news on that front.
02:03 AEW has now seemingly confirmed her departure from the company by removing her from their
02:07 roster page.
02:08 Fightful Select is reporting that there isn't any ill will between AEW and Jade, and that
02:13 it was important to AEW to give her a proper send off.
02:16 WWE were also reportedly interested in Jade potentially as early as July this year, and
02:21 while some were coy about her future, there were reportedly higher ups in AEW that were
02:26 aware of her plans to jump to WWE.
02:29 There were conflicting reports as to whether Cargill was already in Orlando at the WWE
02:33 Performance Center or not, but that does seem to be where she has been or will be going
02:37 as her next step.
02:38 Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio also noted that Cargill joining WWE is not a minor
02:43 thing for them, and there most likely would be big creative plans put in place for her.
02:47 And with that news, you'd think that maybe things would be exciting backstage in WWE
02:51 right now in anticipation of Jade joining them, but then you'd remember that over
02:55 100 people were let go from their jobs last Friday and that's...well, that's a bit
02:58 more rubbish isn't it?
02:59 PWInsider described the morale backstage in WWE as "decimated" would be an understatement,
03:05 but interestingly some former and current WWE employees believe that this wouldn't
03:09 have happened under Stephanie McMahon's watch, which, while not necessarily factual
03:14 as these cuts may still very well have happened, many of the former employees reportedly reflected
03:18 on Stephanie's approach to cultivating a positive and uplifting work environment, whereas
03:23 the new TKO management took the more ruthless business approach, not letting fired staff
03:28 even say goodbye to one another as they were told to work remotely on Friday, so they were
03:31 just a bunch of empty cubicle seats on Monday.
03:37 Well, on that cheery note, over to Luke.
03:41 There's no Mark Marks in this week, but there is my review of Monday Night Raw, aka
03:45 Why on Earth Did You Beat Chad Gable Edition of Monday Night Raw?
03:49 In about 5 minutes.
03:50 The show kicked off with Cody Rhodes looking to cut a promo about Jey Uso and perhaps explain
03:54 some more details about that trade storyline that I get the feeling has been dropped, but
03:59 Dominik Mysterio came out to announce that Rhea Ripley was not here this week.
04:03 Boo.
04:04 Well, I mean, boo is the word because he certainly was trying to tell the crowd this, but they
04:08 were not letting him get that out.
04:10 Dom also has an NXT North American Championship match against Dragon Lee, not tonight on NXT,
04:15 but next week live on Monday Night Raw.
04:19 A great showcase for the title, and a huge platform for Dragon Lee.
04:24 So how did WWE and Cody Rhodes help build anticipation for that match?
04:29 Cody squashed Dominik in two minutes.
04:32 LOL.
04:33 Now look, really this isn't a big deal.
04:36 Yes Dom is the North American Champion, and yes he has a title match next week, but he's
04:40 also Dom and his gimmick is he sucks.
04:42 And he's Cody Rhodes and his gimmick is he's a star.
04:45 Of course the only winning move is to not book the match, not at the end of that Matthew
04:49 Broderick movie War Games, but when has that stopped WWE before?
04:53 And speaking of War Games, really this segment was here for Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens to
04:57 come out and have a stare down with Judgement Day because, well, it's a post-Mania edition
05:02 of Monday Night Raw in 2023, so you've got to have KO and Sami square off the Judgement
05:07 Day somewhere.
05:08 What else are they going to do?
05:09 They're also having another f***ing match next week, and I've got a terrible feeling
05:12 this is all leading to a War Games match in November.
05:16 So expect another two months of this to come.
05:19 KO wanted to ask Cody why he brought Jey Uso to Raw, considering that Sami Zayn should
05:24 be the Universal Champion if it wasn't for Jey, and Cody should be the Universal Champion
05:29 if it wasn't for Jey, and the same goes for Kev.
05:31 Cody agreed, but says that he does things for the fans and Jey deserves a second chance.
05:37 Sami, the voice of reason, pointed out that KO has had plenty of second chances.
05:42 Kev said that he doesn't trust Jey, but he does trust Cody and Sami.
05:47 War Games is coming soon.
05:49 There also was a show-long storyline that finished up between Jey and the Judgement
05:52 Day - the Jey-gement day - where Damien Priest gave Jey until the end of the night to join
05:57 their group.
05:59 We were supposed to have a two out of three falls match between the Viking Raiders and
06:02 New Day, but Eric was unable to get cleared, so what we got instead was a singles match
06:05 between Ivar and Kofi Kingston.
06:08 Well, you know.
06:09 Alright I guess.
06:10 This is a nice bit of filler I suppose.
06:14 No need to pay too much attention here.
06:15 Huh, that splash to the floor was really nice.
06:18 Man, I forget how athletic Hansen is.
06:21 Whoa, whoa, these near falls are amazing.
06:23 Ivar's going up for another splash.
06:25 Oh, he's going for a moonsault.
06:26 Holy s***, that moonsault was awesome.
06:28 Eat that Tiffany Strickland.
06:30 We've got a new prettiest moonsault ever.
06:32 What did Kofi kick out of that?
06:34 Trouble in paradise.
06:35 One, two, three.
06:36 Kofi wins.
06:37 Man.
06:38 I need a cigarette after that.
06:42 No kidding, this match was so much better than it needed to be, and I am here for it.
06:48 And it's not just me, as this crowd were white hot for this match.
06:52 Which is more than you can say for Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Ricochet.
06:57 I think it says a lot about the state of the World Heavyweight Championship scene where
07:00 the crowd are hotter for a fun singles match with little stakes than a match between the
07:04 guy who recently feuded with Logan Paul and a man who is supposed to be Seth Rollins biggest
07:08 challenger for the world title.
07:10 Like the match was fine, but this feud is ice cold and the crowd responded in kind.
07:17 With that said, I think this was the best angle they've done since they started feuding
07:20 last month.
07:21 The story of the match was that Nakamura had little interest in actually winning, he just
07:25 wanted to punish Ricochet.
07:27 And he baited Ricochet into getting himself DQ'd like a moron, and Nakamura beat him
07:31 up some more after the match, taking him out with a chair.
07:34 Rollins came down for his second brawl with Nakamura, having already brawled with him
07:37 before the match, and Shinsuke back dropped him onto a chair.
07:42 Seth sold this backstage like he can barely walk in the moment because his back is so
07:46 bad, but Nakamura has driven him to the edge.
07:50 This is the best the story has been since it started, but it still feels really low
07:55 on the card in terms of audience attention and care.
07:58 DQs have become a rare thing in WWE since Triple H took over creative, but then we got
08:02 two DQs in two matches just in case you were wondering how much power Vince McMahon has
08:07 in creative since he forced his way back in.
08:09 Nia Jax beat up all of Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, Piper Niven and Chelsea Green in their
08:13 tag match, which did nothing for the tag division.
08:17 Chad Gable, the hero Chad Gable, the fan favourite Chad Gable wants another shot at
08:21 Gunther and to show that he deserves one, WWE had him get beaten clean by Bronson Reed.
08:28 What?
08:29 I guess the idea here is rather than rush Gable back into another Gunther match, you
08:34 build up some other people for Gunther to beat - like Bronson Reed and Tommaso Ciampa
08:39 more on him in a bit - before Gable earns another shot at him and finally dethrones
08:44 him.
08:45 Which is a fine story, but man did this feel like it took the wind out of Gable's sails
08:50 here.
08:51 New NXT Women's Champion Becky Lynch laid out an open challenge for the title, and she
08:54 wanted someone new to step up.
08:57 So who will that new be?
08:59 Emma?
09:00 Tegan Nox?
09:01 Xia Li?
09:02 Jade Cargill?
09:03 No, it was Natalya.
09:06 Sigh.
09:07 Becky won, because of course she did.
09:09 Nattie's promo before the match was, "I had a good match 8 weeks ago and haven't
09:14 been booked since."
09:15 F***ing great gimmick there Nattie.
09:17 She also called Becky a ginger witch because this is a show for children.
09:21 Ciampa beat Giovanni Vinci and they keep teasing breaking up Imperium, stop that Hunter!
09:26 And Drew McIntyre beat Jey Uso in the main event after Jey distracted himself taking
09:29 out Judgment Day and rejecting their offer.
09:32 It was a fun finish to the storyline and the match, and Drew walked away as Judgment Day
09:37 beat down Jey with only Cody Rhodes running down to make the save.
09:42 This was a bit of a mixed bag edition of Raw.
09:44 Kofi and Ivar was awesome, the main event story was good, and Nakamura and Seth finally
09:49 had a bit of a heated segment, but the two DQs, the burial of Dom and the North American
09:54 Championship, Chad getting beaten, Natalya, it was just a mixed bag.
10:00 A 3 out of 5 mixed bag.
10:02 And speaking of Chad Gable, here's my list video from Sunday of 9 other people that could
10:06 beat Gunther for the IC title, including me getting a bit angry and wound up about the
10:11 lack of Tyler Bate on the main roster.
