00:03 It is the mid-autumn festival, a time
00:05 when the sale of mooncakes is at its peak.
00:09 The harvest festival celebrated in the Chinese culture
00:13 comprises celebrants honoring the moon
00:16 while feasting on mooncakes.
00:18 Retail stores strive to offer a wide variety
00:22 of the traditional delicacy to suit every customer's liking.
00:27 Aeon Company Malaysia Burhat this year offers 201 flavors
00:32 and as such has entered the Malaysia Book of Records
00:36 MBOR for the most mooncake varieties.
00:40 Malaysia Book of Records representatives
00:43 presented the certificate to Aeon Chief Merchandise
00:46 and Marketing Officer, Lao Ngai Yuan,
00:49 at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya.
00:52 The award comes at an opportune moment
00:55 as Aeon earlier announced its inaugural Aeon Members' Choice
00:59 Awards for mooncakes.
01:02 Lao said the idea of having the awards
01:04 came up as there were too many types of mooncakes
01:07 in the market.
01:09 We realized that actually there are just
01:11 so many different types of mooncakes out there.
01:14 So do we want to bring in everything,
01:16 which we are already bringing in the largest variety here
01:19 in Malaysia to serve our customers?
01:21 We're talking about more than 800 different types
01:24 of mooncake.
01:25 So as a consumer, how do you choose?
01:27 How many mooncakes can you actually really eat?
01:30 Maybe 10?
01:34 Maybe 10?
01:36 But then how do you choose out of 800?
01:38 10 out of 800, how do you choose?
01:40 So basically then we thought, why don't we
01:42 just ask our customers?
01:43 They have been with us for a long, long time.
01:45 So we then sent out questionnaires
01:48 and we also put it on the sales floor in the supermarket
01:52 for them to like, oh, if you would like to participate,
01:54 please help us and help the other customers decide
01:57 what mooncake they should be on the lookout for.
02:00 And voila, 2,882 replies.
02:04 Lau said they also wanted to acknowledge the supplier
02:07 for their mooncake creations in terms of creativity
02:11 and commitment to quality.
02:13 With the conversation with the suppliers,
02:15 what we want them to do is to really look
02:16 at the art of mooncake creation and really put in a lot more
02:21 development research and also take into account
02:24 what the customers are saying.
02:26 So innovation is also very big.
02:28 We're quite glad and happy that we have Musang King,
02:32 we have the Ondeh Ondeh.
02:34 Those are great, but then what else?
02:37 Because you do want your customers to be excited all the time.
02:40 With the range of mooncakes up for sale,
02:43 Lau encouraged customers to try new varieties.
02:47 She said the announcement on the award winners
02:50 would also help customers with the purchases.
02:54 Gifting is very big in our country,
02:56 especially to your elders or especially to someone
02:59 who's meant something to you.
03:00 So you do want to send, consider variety, consider innovation,
03:06 consider, you know, try new things, consider, you know,
03:09 level of sweetness, consider even vegan type.
03:13 Try it.
03:15 The winners in the five categories are Baker's Cottage
03:18 and Oversea for the most preferred mooncake brand,
03:22 Durian the Night of Brilliance Black-Torn Charcoal,
03:26 the most popular mooncake,
03:28 Kasahana, the best mooncake design,
03:31 Hernan Musang King Banan Snowy Mooncake,
03:34 the most innovative mooncake flavour,
03:37 and Hong Kong MX Mooncake, the best mooncake packaging.
