Canada on Monday expelled a top Indian diplomat as it investigates what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called credible allegations that the Indian government may have had links to the assassination in Canada of a Sikh activist. In Parliament, the Canadian PM said the country's intelligence agencies have been investigating the allegations after Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gunned down on June 18 outside a Sikh cultural centre in Surrey, British Columbia. 00:17 First and foremost, I would like to extend my condolences to the family and loved ones of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
00:25 The allegations that a representative of a foreign government may have been involved
00:32 in the killing of a Canadian citizen here in Canada on Canadian soil
00:39 is not only troubling, but it is completely unacceptable.
00:44 If proven true, this would be a grave violation of our sovereignty
00:50 and of the most basic rule of how countries deal with each other.
00:56 We've been clear we will not tolerate any form of foreign interference.
01:02 Since this was brought to our attention, we've been guided by three principles.
01:09 The first one, we will seek the truth.
01:13 The second one, we will protect Canadians at all times.
01:17 And thirdly, we will protect Canada's sovereignty.
01:23 I've conveyed these principles to my Indian counterpart,
01:27 and I've also told him that we expect India's full collaboration
01:31 to make sure that we get to the bottom of this.
01:34 And as of today, and as a consequence, we've expelled a top Indian diplomat from Canada.
