00:04 Yam Tanji is the American Idol season 21 champion

00:11 Now, fans in Utah have a chance to hear him in person.
00:14 It was clear pre-early on that Yam Tanji
00:16 was going to do well on American Idol.
00:18 His audition for the reality competition show,
00:20 which included an emotional performance
00:22 of the James Blunt song "Monsters" quickly went viral.
00:26 His voice and vulnerability
00:27 made two of the three Idol judges cry
00:30 and struck a chord with viewers at home.
00:32 To date, the performance has 23 million views on YouTube.
00:35 Tanji ultimately became the season 21 champion
00:38 and the first Hawaiian and Pacific Islander to win Idol,
00:42 the Desert News reported.
00:43 Now, fans in Utah have a chance to hear Tanji in person.
00:47 The singer will perform at Granary Live
00:49 in Salt Lake City on September 20.
00:51 Tanji is one of four openers
00:53 for the Grammy-nominated reggae band Common Kings.
00:55 The all-ages Salt Lake show
00:57 will also include performances from Julian Marley,
00:59 son of Bob Marley, Sammy Johnson, and Jacobs Castle.

01:08 Tanji is performing in Las Vegas.
01:10 And then on September 22, he'll release "Waikiki,"
01:13 his newest single that pays homage to his Hawaiian roots.
01:16 In addition to being a supporting act,
01:18 the 19-year-old singer is currently in the middle
01:20 of his first headlining tour.
01:22 That tour extends to the East Coast
01:24 throughout October and November,
01:25 the Desert News reported.
01:27 Tanji also has a couple of performances
01:29 scheduled in New Zealand and Australia in early October.

01:34 Tanji has been on the go
01:35 since his "American Idol" win in May.
01:37 In addition to touring and working on new music,
01:39 he recorded a duet version of "Monsters,"
01:42 the song that started it all, with Blunt himself.

01:46 to offer support to those affected by the Maui wildfires.
01:49 He recently performed a tribute on "Good Morning America"
01:52 and asked fans to do some research
01:54 on the right organizations to donate to

02:23 In the wake of the Maui wildfires disaster,
02:26 concert promoter Rick Bartolini said,
02:28 "All of us on the RBP team, as well as Ieam,
02:31 "are heartbroken over the extreme losses that Hawaii,
02:34 "and particularly Maui, are currently coping with.
02:36 "We are all hopeful that Ieam's performances
02:38 "will give our community a chance to gather together
02:41 "for a moment of joy and healing
02:42 "in the midst of this painful tragedy,
02:44 "as well as a way to honor and celebrate
02:46 "the strength of the Hawaiian spirit," Bartolini added.
02:49 A portion of the proceeds will be donated
02:51 to benefit those affected by the Maui fires,
02:53 an exclusive online presale will open this Friday at 10 a.m.
02:56 on Ticketmaster for Hawaii residents only.
02:59 Up to eight tickets can be purchased by one patron
03:01 and no password is required.
03:03 Maui Arts and Cultural Center members
03:05 can purchase tickets starting Wednesday at 10 a.m.
03:08 The general public can begin purchasing tickets
03:10 on September 29 at 10 a.m.
