00:01 That's a good question, and I'm here to answer it.

00:04 We should make it look kind of old-timey,
00:05 like that sepia, grainy, scratches, you know.
00:10 So it looks old, yeah.

00:13 Okay, what is snake oil?
00:15 It all started back in the mid-1800s,
00:17 where some enterprising swindler extracted oil
00:20 from a Chinese water snake and bottled it.
00:23 Don't know how they squeezed it out?
00:24 Maybe they rolled up the snake like toothpaste?
00:26 I don't know, I'm not sure.
00:28 Either way, it makes me sick.
00:29 Now these hucksters, who had come to be known
00:31 as snake oil salesmen, would travel from town to town
00:34 and sell this magic elixir as a cure-all for any ailment.
00:37 It's kind of gross.
00:38 It's just like squished up snake, I don't like it.
00:40 What I do know is this potion was bogus.
00:43 You know, I actually removed this filter
00:44 because I look like I have typhoid or something.
00:46 It's not a good look.
00:47 Over time, the term snake oil has come to be known
00:49 as a product that's sort of phony baloney.
