The 900HP Custom Burnout Truck | Ridiculous Rides

  • last year
BOASTING a twin-turbo engine with more than 900hp – ‘Filthy’ is the world’s first full custom-road registered burnout truck. Owner Michael Lake, from ‘Truckin Stainless’ in Brisbane, Australia, spent seven years working days and nights in his shed to perfect his latest burnout model. A ‘burnout’ is the practice of keeping a vehicle stationary whilst spinning its wheels, causing the tyres to heat up and smoke due to friction. Michael, 42, built ‘Filthy’ specifically for the entertainment of burning out to crowds across Australia, but he also made sure to produce a vehicle that was practical and street-legal for his own pleasure.

00:00 I own trucks, live trucks, breathe trucks, and I've spent my whole life so far.
00:06 This is filthy, a burnt out truck, heaps of smoke.
00:26 Yep, Michael Lake, owner of Truckin' Stainless here in Brisbane, Australia.
00:30 This is my truck that I've built for burnouts.
00:34 It's got a 28 litre Cummins, that's a white 4000, 75 model.
00:54 It's got twin turbos, all custom made.
00:57 Passion for trucks has been since a young boy, yeah I was a truck driver most of my life.
01:03 And yeah, just had enough of it, wanted to get out of it, try something different.
01:08 So we started at home, built it up from home, gone from there.
01:13 I drew pictures of it when I first started building it and just sort of went from there.
01:19 It's pretty much what it looks like on the picture.
01:22 It's one of a kind.
01:25 Started with a set of diffs, started with a set of diffs, put the motor and box in place.
01:41 String lined it on the concrete and we started building the truck from there.
01:46 Yeah, it's all pretty much all custom.
01:50 The build's taken seven years.
01:52 We go from starting with a cab that was rusted out to putting it all together.
01:57 Just every night pretty much, yeah, after I'd finished work I'd just go out there and start working on that
02:03 until I had enough and then go back up inside and then get up and do it all over again.
02:08 It's a bit of old school look, we've got a lift up bumper.
02:12 It all tilts out, lifts up, so I can get over speed bumps and what not.
02:17 It's a custom grill we've manufactured and all done here in-house.
02:21 You see these gauges, they've all got our own custom truck and stainless logo in them.
02:26 That's a pretty cool little feature we've got.
02:29 It looks pretty good at night too, all light up.
02:32 Up here we've got our front brakes, so we'll hold them down to do a burn out.
02:38 We'll hold them down until we're done.
02:41 The hardest part would be to...
02:44 I was originally marrying the box and the motor up.
02:49 Other than that, we just worked on it until we worked it out.
02:53 A bit of a feature would be, I reckon, would be the grill.
02:56 I definitely like the front look of it, it's definitely in your face.
03:00 A custom steering wheel here with a quick release.
03:03 I've got the front wheel on the back, so I can just pull it out and put it in the back.
03:07 Custom steering wheel here with a quick release.
03:10 I've got the Transformer logo over here, because everyone reckons it's a bit of a bumblebee.
03:15 The whole building process, I wouldn't have put a price to it, but probably $50,000.
03:22 The engine is a V12 1710 Cummins, 28 litre.
03:27 It's rated at 900 horsepower and 4000 foot-pound of torque.
03:32 You can go to like 2300 horsepower or four turbos.
03:36 That's really cracking.
03:38 Nah, I don't think I'd ever sell it.
03:40 It's just part of the family now.
03:41 My friends are a bit jealous of it, of filthy.
03:44 But it's all good.
03:46 I get to take them for a run around the block and they soon change their mind.
03:49 This truck is outstanding.
03:51 Like, I really think it's beyond words.
03:54 It's the best truck in Australia, out there, in Australia for sure.
03:58 Yeah, I'm proud of the truck we've built, all the work we've done to it,
04:02 and all the customisation.
04:04 One-of-a-kind kind of a truck.
04:07 It's definitely different.
04:09 Definitely proud of it.
