00:00 Welcome back to Pinoy MD, Kapuso.
00:02 This morning, we have our resident dermatologist with us.
00:05 Of course, there's no one else but Dr. Jean Marquez.
00:08 She will be answering your health-related questions.
00:12 Good morning, Doc.
00:13 Good morning, Connie.
00:15 Of course, good morning to our Kapuso.
00:17 Of course, we're always ready to answer the questions of our Kapuso.
00:22 Here's the first question, Dr. Jean.
00:24 Why is she prone to itching and what's the solution here?
00:29 This is a question from Patrick Gawaran.
00:31 Alright, Patrick.
00:33 There are some practices that say that certain people
00:37 can get itchier hair more often than others.
00:41 There's a study that says that those who have bigger, wider, and sweaty hair
00:51 are more prone to itching.
00:55 Of course, there are also practices that say that those who wear darker clothing
01:04 are more prone to itching.
01:08 There are also some who say that those who smell alcohol
01:17 are more prone to itching.
01:19 But of course, there's still a lack of practice to say that it's true.
01:26 Although, there are also people who have it.
01:29 This is a proven study that there are people who have an allergic reaction to hair.
01:39 For example, if you have a history of asthma in the family or eczema,
01:47 you can develop an allergic reaction to hair.
01:51 That's why it's more visible to have insect bites.
01:54 But whether you're prone to itching or not,
01:58 the most important thing here is to have preventive measures against insect bites.
02:04 What are these?
02:05 First of all, you can apply insect repellent.
02:10 Of course, there are natural insect repellents and chemical-based insect repellents.
02:16 And of course, it's better to protect yourself by wearing long sleeves or pajamas.
02:24 At night, you can wear socks over your pajamas
02:27 so that the exposed areas of the body won't get itchy.
02:33 Here's our next question, doctor.
02:35 Why do we always keep it in a closed container, especially when it's cold or sweaty?
02:43 Is it because it's an orticaria?
02:47 Naya, you might be right.
02:50 If those exposed areas are called "tagulabay" or the welts or the areas that are raised,
02:58 that are reddish and sometimes generalized or the whole body,
03:03 that can be called a cold or heat orticaria.
03:09 Cold orticaria, when exposed to extreme temperatures,
03:16 like when it's very cold,
03:17 can release the histamine in your body.
03:21 And this can cause those "tagulabay".
03:26 And of course, some patients with cold orticaria are said to be connected to some liver diseases
03:33 or in extreme cases, to CA or cancer.
03:37 So, you really need to be tested and of course, we'll look for it.
03:41 And of course, there are preventive measures.
03:43 Drink what's called antihistamines before going to those places.
03:48 As for heat orticaria, if it's too hot, it can also cause "tagulabay".
03:53 So, before exercising, we advise you to drink antihistamine.
03:58 Don't expose yourself to extreme heat.
04:03 When exercising, you should pause it first
04:07 so that your body's temperature will cool down.
04:11 And of course, avoid hot sauna.
04:14 And of course, avoid too spicy foods.
04:17 It can also trigger extreme sweating.
04:21 Thank you so very much, Dr. Jean,
04:23 for answering the questions of our FB members here in Pinoy MD.
