00:08 by the country's security forces on Saturday, on the first anniversary of her demise.
00:14 The Kurdistan Human Rights Network said, "Security forces detained Amjad Amini today and returned
00:20 him to his house after threatening him against marking his daughter's 10th anniversary.
00:25 The detention came as Iranian security forces were deployed in the hometown of Mehrsa Amini
00:30 in anticipation of unrest as many across the country prepared to mark the very first anniversary
00:35 of her death in police custody.
00:38 The death of 22-year-old Amini, who was arrested for allegedly flouting the country's mandatory
00:43 dress code, sparked months of anti-government protests.
00:47 More than 500 people, including 71 minors, were killed while hundreds were injured and
00:52 thousands were arrested in the protests.
00:55 Iranian authorities said that dozens of security personnel were also killed in what they described
00:59 as riots incited by foreign governments and hostile media.
01:04 Seven men have been executed after being convicted in protest-related cases.
01:08 The protests were eventually crushed by Iranian security forces.
01:12 In Amini's birthplace in Iran's western province of Kurdistan, reports quoted a rights activist

01:21 Another activist reportedly said that a small gathering of protesters chanted anti-government
01:25 slogans before quickly dispersing.

01:33 Kurdistan.
01:34 The New York-based organization Human Rights Watch, or HRW, said that family members of
01:38 at least 36 people killed or executed in the crackdown had been interrogated, arrested,
01:45 prosecuted or sentenced to time in prison over the past month.
01:48 The two journalists who did the most to publicize the Amini case, Niloofer Hamidi and Elahe
01:54 Mohammadi, who respectively reported from her hospital and funeral, have been held in
01:58 prison for almost a year.
02:00 Another reporter named Nazila Marufian, who interviewed Amini's father, has been arrested
02:04 repeatedly.
02:05 While some women are still seen walking in public without headscarves, particularly in
02:10 wealthy, traditionally liberal areas of North Tehran, the conservative-dominated parliament
02:15 is considering to draft a law that would impose far stiffer penalties for non-compliance.
02:21 On Friday evening, thousands of Iranian emigres marched in Brussels, holding up pictures of
02:26 Amini and many others killed in the protests while calling for the overthrow of Iran's
02:31 theocracy and the establishment of a democratic republic.
02:34 As per reports, Britain and the US imposed new sanctions on Iran on Friday.
02:39 The US State Department said that Canada, Australia and other partners were also imposing
02:43 sanctions this week.
02:45 In a statement, the US President Joe Biden said on Friday, "Mehsa's story did not
02:50 end with her brutal death.
02:52 She inspired a historic movement, #WomenLifeFreedom, that has impacted Iran and influenced people
02:58 across the globe."
