00:00 Ever since I was a kid, I've just been into cars.
00:02 It's sort of like design, art, and engineering merging.
00:06 This is insane.
00:07 So I was super excited to direct Grant Turismo, a film which
00:10 is based entirely on a true story.
00:12 He comes from this giant sci-fi world
00:14 of making these big, epic movies.
00:16 But he makes these very grounded stories
00:18 within these big worlds.
00:19 The whole goal is to try to take the audience on a ride that
00:22 feels as large, but also as real as possible.
00:26 You're going to be forced to make split-second decisions that
00:29 could cost you your life.
00:31 Working with Neil, I knew that the movie would
00:34 have that visceral feel to it.
00:35 We were working with actual cars, actual drivers,
00:38 actual tracks.
00:40 Being in the car, going at racing speeds
00:42 is the most difficult thing I have ever done.
00:45 We were super specific about when
00:47 to be inside the cockpit versus outside the cockpit,
00:49 because outside, you get this amazing particulate,
00:53 either water or dust and glare, that put you
00:55 undeniably on the track.
00:58 I can't see anything!
01:00 We have drones going 160 miles an hour,
01:03 spinning around the cars.
01:04 Our FPV drones kind of give us the most vibrant,
01:08 in the middle of the action, point of view.
01:10 And then there's a very low-slung camera
01:12 on a remote head at the front of a high-speed pursuit vehicle.
01:16 Because of the fact that it's only a few inches
01:18 off the ground, the speed is conveyed quite well.
01:20 Everywhere you look, it's really authentic and vibrant.
01:24 That's what I'm talking about!
01:27 Gran Turismo definitely is a big cinema experience, for sure.
01:30 It looks very real, because the cars are real,
01:32 the photography style is real, and the story is real.
01:34 Get in the fight!
01:36 Yes, sir.
01:39 (ENGINES ROARING)
01:42 (MUSIC)
01:45 (upbeat music)
