00:00 Let's now talk about rice.
00:02 The Philippines is trying to promote China as the world's top importer of rice.
00:07 The United States Department of Agriculture said so for the Trade Year 2023-2024.
00:13 The USDA is expecting that the Philippines will import 3.8 million metric tons of rice.
00:19 That's higher than the 3.5 million metric tons that China plans to import.
00:24 But the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines said that it expects to import less rice this year.
00:32 The local production is expected to be stronger.
00:35 President Bongbong Marcos, the Concurrent Agriculture Secretary, also said that the Philippines should not expect importation.
00:42 But the Bantay Bigas group requested that President Marcos be the secretary of the agency.
00:50 The President should be responsible for the continued importation and killing of local production.
00:57 The Rice Liberalization Law should also be abolished.
01:00 Malacanang has yet to respond.
01:03 You know, our population compared to China is very small.
01:09 But if we are the ones who are said to be the ones who will be affected by China's importation.
01:14 It's a different kind. There's a big problem. It's an indication of a big problem.
01:18 And they say that the importation of rice is always being pushed to a very high income.
01:26 You know, some experts say that.
01:31 But food security is a big thing and if you can't solve it, it's dangerous.
01:36 That's why we should really focus on that.
